Confrontation and exasperations 11

Sienna's POV.

It wasn't that difficult to fall asleep on the hotel bed. Ever since David and I started moving from every part of the city, I adapted to finding comfort in sleeping in a bed that wasn't mine.

I gave it a long thought after waking up. There were no tasks to attend to as my home didn't even feel safe for me. Before the fear escalates, I knew what I needed to do.

I needed to have a conversation with David before I find myself crawling out of my own skin.

I reached for my phone which was far away from where I was. My two index fingers worked together and held both sides of the phone while my pinky fingers held the bottom. This prevented the phone from falling into my face.

“We need to talk.” I texted.

The three dots that showed immediately made my heart skip. Some part of me wanted to know if he was going to threaten me to return back home but his response was, “1443 Ashford.” An address.

I didn’t feel safe going to that address at first. I rose up from the bed and strolled across the room staying on the white tiles that made my feet cold.

If one thing was certain, David would never hurt me, another of my mind convinced me.

I paced again trying to ignore it with another part of my mind opposing every single thing it said.

If he would never hurt me, then why did he keep me around in his dangerous world when he knew there was a high probability I was going to get hurt?

Strolling to the other end of the white tile again, I hear the other part of my mind speaking again with its voice sounding as if there was another person in the room.

If he had let you go, that would have been worse because you would get captured very fast before you can even dial his number to come to your rescue. David isn't going to hurt you because he loves you. Maybe he loves you too much, but that's definitely something you guys can work on. He got you the job because he knew you loved art and if you found out, you'd be hurt. That was why he kept it to himself. Who would do that just to hurt you?

Everything made sense for me and the other part of my mind that was opposing the meeting with him. Bur after this, I find another thought invading again.

If you go to this meeting, it will definitely change everything. You and David might end up going back together and you might find yourself in the same situation again.

Every intrusive thoughts left my mind except from this one that stood right in the middle. I wasn't ready to talk to David let alone make a deal that involves going back to meet him. I didn't know if I was ready to address this with myself and with David but one way or the other, I find myself going to 1443 Ashford.

The house was different from the ones we constantly jumped into after escaping from an attack. The outside was welcoming, with the smell of roses and lilies liberating my mind from all forms of tensions my mind convinced me was inside.

The chandeliers in the room were big enough to illuminate all the art works in my place of work both old and new. The curve of the staircase was elegant and snaky with golden railings. The air scented of choice that one could almost taste it.

As I soaked in every detail of the house, I looked up seeing David standing in the middle of the staircase. The swirling of the staircase didn't make me see him stand there.

The constant skipping of mt heart when I laid eyes on him made me realize how much I missed him. How much I missed his protection and his warmth. His body hugged his shirt tighter with his eyes looking less pale like someone who took a trip to peace itself. My breath began to turn into a pant and I felt him feel the nervousness in my heart.

“Hello Jessica.” He said in a shaky but gentleman voice, an evidence that he missed me just as much as I missed him.

“Hello David. How have you been?”

“Thinking of you everyday.”

I gave no response. My new facial expression explaining that the purpose of the meeting was not for a reunion but for scrutiny.

“Please, let's move into the study.” His hand pointed revealing a wooden brown door behind him.

Moving closer to him, a familiar smell invaded my nose bringing back memories when our previous days were peaceful. I felt him trying to place his hand on my back but was too scared to do such a thing.

Sitting on the other end of the chair in silence like a client trying to open up to a therapist, David spoke up.

“What was it you wanted to talk about? I hope everything is fine.”

His question made me feel irritated. He wanted to play dumb like nothing happened. I stood up from the chair and laughed in disbelief with my low tone chuckle leading to a loud laugh. I placed my hand on my forehead and convinced myself that I wasn't going to waste my time.

“I really can't believe you're pretending to not know what you did.”

He didn't speak which urged me to go on.

“You had someone fired just so I can get a job. A job I thought I worked hard to get. Do you know how heartbreaking it was for me to find out that I didn't earn it and everything was handed to me? And you know the type of background I came from and how I had to work for everything I wanted. I already blended with everyone and I was starting to appreciate everything as it was until the realization came to me. And David, I really appreciate the fact that you gave me the space I asked for but then it all made sense to me that the reason why you gave me the space to begin with was because you didn't want me to be totally free. You installed cameras in my house to take note of every single move I made. On realizing it, that was the most unsafe I've ever felt in my entire life. My apartment had always been an oasis for me. But finding that out made me realize that I might never feel safe in it again.”

David took all these words with ease and stood up after seeing me tear up.

“Jessica, yes, I got you the job because I knew you were going to look for one. I knew how much you loved art and I loved how you were around them which was why I ensured that the best of the best was presented to you and I'd do it all over again even if it means firing everyone in the whole company just to make you happy.”

I wanted to fire back to let him know I didn't want to be bought. But he continued with his words making more sense as to why he did it.

“And yes, I totally understand that you might not be okay with it because you want to be your own person. I understand why I did that and I'm sorry but I'm not sorry for making you happy. And about the security cameras, my guys never installed any security cameras around your house. They reported when you went to work and when you came back home to me. That was it. They never stepped foot into your apartment. And before you complain of me trying to invade your privacy, you should know that I was trying to protect you from…”

“I don't want to hear it. I didn't come here to be a damsel in distress.” I cut him off immediately and slammed one of the cameras on the chair that parted the both of us.

“If you didn't send this, then who else would be capable of doing that?”

Immediately, he uncovered the camera from the tissue I dabbed it in and smashed it as soon as possible.

“There's a second one and probably more in my apartment if you try to bury the evidence.”

Immediately, David pulled me harshly from the chair that was beside me. From that moment on, I realized that things just got serious.

“Jessica, we're not…”

And exp
losion separated us from each other throwing us into opposite ends of the room.
