Chapter 74: Giselle
“Its a spell” Brandon said as he walked into the eoom where Elaine laid lifeless.
“What do you mean by that, no witch has a way to enter into the citadel” Edgar said confidently as he was pretty sure of what he was doing.
“But not if the witch is disguised as you and come up here, cast a spell the guards too and get closer to Elaine” Brandon replied with a contemplative look on your face.
“I don’t know what they want with us and why they can’t just leave us to live our lives peacefully” Edgar said running his hand through his hair.
“Our lives will never be peaceful as long as Skylar and his father are living with their primary aim which is to destroy our lives and enslave our offsprings” Brandon replied and Edgar bowed his head frustration and emotional tiredness.
“I know that Brandon, we need to wake Elaine up before the full control of Skylar comes upon her” Edgar said as he held her down as her body began to shake violently.
“Hold her down and make her sure she doesn’t trying to break free, that only signifies that she is. Eing defeated wherever she may be.
“Go to Claudia, we need a witch here now if we want to save Elaine” Edgar said hastily as the other guards help him hold Sapphire down.
Brandon races out of the room, leaving Edgar who was already at the brink of going crazy if he didn’t hear any positive news about his wife’s health, he was petrified and most of all he was very scare for what was happening to Elaine that he wasn’t able to control.
On the other hand, Brandon ran through the halls with all his speed and finally came to Claudia’s door and he saw three guards outside protecting the door.
“What do you want” one of them said as he approached him slowly.
“I’m here to see the Lady Claudia, it a matter of emergency” Brandon said trying to catch his breath and speak at the same time, and the guard looked indifferent.
“You cannot go in except she sends for you” the guard replied and Brandon got very angry.
“You are going to let me in now, this is a matter of life and death” Brandon said standing his ground and showing the guard that he had a rank way higher than his.
“A matter of life and death is the one we face now, the matter of your life or death if you do not leave this place” the guard said with a smug look on his rough scarred face.
“In case you want to be responsible for the death of the Lady Elaine you better step aside or her husband will hint you and your families for the rest of your life and even your children’s children to come” Brandon said threateningly as he walked very close to him looking him straight in the eyes and making sure he was making his point.
“Your Majesty… what’s your name?” The guard said turning to face Brandon.
“I’m Brandon” he replied and he saw realization dawn in the guard’s eye that he just disrespected a beta, in fact the beta of the red stone pack.
“Brandon, Your majesty” the guard said and Claudia opened up the door.
“Come in please, why are you standing there?” Claudia said and Brandon rushed inside.
“To what do I owe this pleasure?” She said delightfully.
“We have a situation, it’s really important” Brandon said .
“You know I no longer do all these Brandon, you take important mattters to Theon, I’m no longer Alpha” Claudia said as she sat on her big chair lazily.
“I know, but Theon doesn’t know where I can get a witch does he now?” Brandon said and her countenance changed to that of worry.
“What’s happened? Why do you need a witch? What went wrong?” She said looking very worried.
“Elaine has been enchanted, the witch was able to disguise as Edgar and come into the citadel, she made Elaine guards confused and unsure of what they saw” Brandon explained keenly.
“I know who might help, I need you to go to the forbidden house and find Giselle, she is the only witch that has the power to free Elaine.
“Where is the forbidden house?” Brandon said hastily.
“Behind the citadel, just look for anywhere that people avoid” Claudia said and Brandon turned to race out of the room.
“Thank you” he said before turning away and running out of the room.
Brandon needed answers for what was happening, sitting back and asking the guards who didn’t seem to be in their right senses questions, wasn’t going to get him the solution he needed.
He left Elaine’s room, he walked through the halls, passed all the alleys surrounding the market, he walked towards a big building that seemed like it had been abandoned for so many years after once being an epitome of beauty in the eyes of so many. No one dared to come close to because of the tales that were told of it.
When people saw Brandon walk in there, they all looked at him like he was a crazy person and none of them said a single word to him instead they murmured to themselves as they walked by.
He ignored them and continued walking towards the building, he knew that this was were he would find the witch that Claudia told him of about. she is said to have been dwelling there for years and that was the only way to free Elaine from the spell, to bring another witch that can tell what kind of spell it was and counter it.
“Hello!!” Brandon said as he got to the front door and watched it open without him touching it. His voice echoed into a long distance and he knew that the place was a big one. He looked around but the place was too dark to see anything.
“Hello!!” He said again this tome louder and there was still no response instead the door slam shut, trapping him in the room. He tried to open the doors but his efforts were futile.
“Looking for someone Brandon?” a voice said from behind him and he saw the room brighten up to reveal a woman standing beside a candle stand with a lighting stick in her hands as she smiled warmly.
“How do you know my name?” He said as he turned to face her fully.
“Is that question more important than why you came here?” The woman said and Brandon fell quiet for a while, he couldn’t trust her yet so he would start a conversation with something else and hear what she had to say to know what kind pf mind she had.
“How did this place become secluded from the citadel?” Brandon said and it made the woman look at him with her beautiful eyes staring deeply into his and then look back at the candle light in front of her.
“Do you really want to know?” She said and Brandon knew that he wanted to know and that this would be a way to know her and make her fully trust him.
“Yes I want to know” he replied and she gave a small smile with the side of her lips curling upward.
“Many years ago, we the witches lived here in this very building, co-existing with the white stone pack we all lived as one family not until the vampires came, we fought day and night trying to ward them off. The witches decided to use their powers to stop them and we cooked up a spell that would make the vampires powerless before us all. We prepared a potion and poured it round the boundaries of the white stone pack house, night came and the vampires rushed in through those same boundaries, and instead of being weak, they all became two times stronger and the lives of many were lost in the process” the lady said and paused for a while.
“The White stone pack blamed the witches, they invaded our home, took us one after the other and crucified us on crosses that were placed on the road leading to the citadel. I was just a girl and my mother hid me from them and instructed that I only reveal myself when I’m sure I have mastered the art of witchcraft and was ready to fight whatever was going to come my way. I stayed in there for a year and a half and when I came out, I was still caught by Claudia’s father and his men, they wanted to kill me, the last witch alive in all of the White stone pack lands” she said and paused for a while.
“Claudia begged for me to stay alive, she begged her father with everything inside of her and he finally agreed on the condition that I stay in the house my family lived and be isolated from everyone till my very dying day.
Claudia didn’t agree with it but I did, I was grateful enough for my life and demanding much will only bring more problems to myself. Ten years later, Claudia’s father dies and she tales over being an alpha. She offers me freedom and a sit and the council of elders but I declined” she said when Brandon cut her halfway.
“Why would you pass on such an opportunity?” Brandon said and she smiled briefly before she spoke.
“Claudia may have forgiven me and reconciled with her soul, but her subjects didn’t and if she makes any decision that goes against their will, it only makes them more unloyal to her and I couldn’t risk that” she replied.
“What’s your name?” Brandon said as he looked at her with keen eyes like he was still curious about many things.
“I am Giselle” she replied with her smile on her face, a smile she wore most of the time as he spoke to her.
“Did the witches really do what they were accused of?” He said curiously as he wanted to know what really happened in the story.
“The witches were partially at fault” she replied.
“How were they partially at fault?” Brandon said wanting to know more about what happened.
“Mistletoe has the potency to both increase strength or reduce strength, all depending on the proportion used in making the potion. The witches weren’t conscious of their proportion, so they did the spell wrongly and caused too many lives” Giselle replied.
