Chapter 54: Flashes

Edgar’s corruption and Brandon searched through every book, scroll and documentary stored in the white pack house library and finally they found the book of all werewolf lineages.

“The great Darius fought that the werewolves may continue to live in peace and harmony, he fought for the race because slowly they were going extinct. He brought together the guardian of the stones like himself and together they made a pact to protect their lands and their people at all costs. They went to war and came out victorious, having defeated the vampire king. The elders split into four different pack all headed by the guardians of the stone” Brandon read inside the book, this was something everyone knew and it was not going to help then in their quest to find Elaine.

“This doesn’t give us anything” Edgar’s corruption said looking frustrated.

“Let’s look through the lineages, there must be something there” Brandon said scanning through the big book.

He looked through the lineages from the beginning of time down to Edgar’s time and never found anyone bearing the name Rachael.

“Why doesn’t this include all the clans in the packs?” Edgar’s corruption said.

“It gives record of only the descendants of those who have been a guardian of the stone, there is a separate book for other clans but that is so much to cover in such a short time” Brandon replied.

Alexander’s corruption looked through the book again, he found a passage that was just longer than others and he read through it. It spoke about a woman who had waited and trained all her life to be the bearer of the red stone ruby because at that point her father was the guardian, but later she wasn’t the one picked by the stone.

“Why did the stone fail to continue through a particular lineage?” Edgar’s corruption said curiously.

“The stone chooses its bearer by their heart and not by whom their parents were, at that very point in history, the stone chose another lineage because it didn’t find the next in line to be worthy of its power. That was when the stone was passed down to Edgar’s ancestors” Brandon said realizing that he was beginning to speak like him, referring to Edgar as a whole other person.

“What did this woman do when she didn’t get what she wanted all her life?” Edgars corruption said as he thought of the idea in his head.

“She disappeared, without a trace for some years and when she was finally in terms with it, she came back and got married to one of Edgar’s great grand uncles” Brandon replied.

“What was his name?” Alexander’s corruption said.

“Ezekiel Knight” Brandon replied.

“She got married into the same family that supposedly stole her birthright, isn’t that suspicious?” Edgar’s corruption said.

“It was to everyone but she proved herself to be a worthy wife when she put her life on the line for the stone, she took an arrow shot for Elijah Knight, the bearer of the stone at that point” Brandon said.

“And that was when she died?” Edgar’s corruption said again.

“No, she died of a corruption when mountain ash wasn’t expelled properly from her body” Brandon said.

“So that’s how it really happened, she died because of me” Edgar’s corruption lamented to himself.

“Why exactly are we speaking of you like you aren’t Edgar?” Brandon said looking confused.

“Because I am not Edgar” he replied.

“That’s impossible” Brandon said smirking a little out of mockery.

“Look into my eyes Brandon, do you see the dark red eyes you see before?” Edgar’s corruption said.

“No, that’s the color of your eyes when your corruption overtakes” Brandon replied looking into his eyes that gave a sharp look.

“I am not Edgar , I am Edgar’s corruption” he said.

“How is that even possible? Edgar is always there even when you come up” Brandon said still very confused.

“Well, Edgar was under a spell and couldn’t risk remaining in control of this body because his beloved will hate him forever so he let me take charge completely and now we’re looking for a way to save Elaine, once we’ve done it, I’ll be gone” Edgar’s corruption explained as he still scanned the book he held in his hand.

“So you’re trying to say that this body has two souls that can choose when the other takes control?” Brandon said completely shocked that it was even possible.

“Yes, now you understand Brandon” Edgar’s corruption said.

“This is so insane. You’re a corruption, why are you helping him?” Brandon said with furrowed brows as the thought just crossed his mind.

“His stone, keeps me from doing anything evil things corruption do and besides we also have a common weakness which is we both are in love with Elaine” Edgar’s corruption said and Brandon mind wandered about it, how long have he known Elaine to fall in love with her.

“I can keep on questioning your true intentions but I’ll just help you out because I am loyal to the Lady Elaine” Brandon said after deciding to keep a close eye on him to make sure he wasn’t planning something funny too.

“Well.. don’t think I need your help anymore, I’ve figures out who Rachael is” Edgar’s corruption said staring at a particular page of a book.

“Look like the page was torn off” Brandon said seeing some marks by the side of the book.

“Yes it was, now we are looking for a single sheet of paper and not a whole book” Edgar’s corruption said closing the book he held in his hands.

“And what if she have destroyed the pages?” Brandon said

“We’ll find the pieces” Alexander’s corruption replied.

“And if we aren’t able to put if together?” Brandon said walking behind him as they headed to Rachael’s room.

“I may not know much about this world but I know that ancient books are taken to witches to cast spells on them to prevent their parts from being missing and something forgotten by the generations to come. It is preservation of heritage” Edgar’s corruption said.

“And how do you know this?” Brandon said.

“Well, Edgar is an intelligent soul I sometimes get flashes of him in my head.
