Chapter 20: Mad man

“So what brings you here today? Missing me?” Skylar said as he had a smirk on his smug face, sitting nonchalantly on the throne with his legs raised on the arm chair.

“You’re a cunning man Skylar, but I never knew you to be shameless as well” Edgar said and he noticed the slight change in Skylar’s countenance.

He was offended by what he said but will never say so he doesn’t seem too weak by reacting to mere words.

“Enlighten me brother, what are you talking about” Skylar said now sitting upright and looking at him straight in the eye.

“My half brother, was never a man to endanger the life of children all for the sought of power. My half brother was never the man to go about poisoning people who he feels like is a threat to him” Edgar paused for a while to study his facial expression.

“How far exactly have you drifted away from the right path?” Edgar said and saw that he had no remorse in his eyes, indeed he was the killer he labelled him out to be.

“Too far to turn back” Skylar said and Edgar confirmed indeed he was the one that poisoned the general.

“You sit on that throne for only a while, and in this time enjoy it. I am coming for you and I will take what rightfully belongs to me” Edgar said and Skylar burst out laughing.

Edgar saw through his fake laughter, he was scared for his life and now it was easier for him to slip because he is thinking about a lot of things at once. He will be too careful that he makes a mistake and that’s when Edgar planned to strike, at Skylar’s most vulnerable moment.

“Until that time which will never come, I’m in charge. The next time you come before me and present charges like this without proof, you’ll die for real this time” Skylar said with an icy look on his face.

“Bye now Skylar, enjoy the rest of the day” Edgar said and walked towards the door nonchalantly.

Skylar why he was going so easily, he thought that Edgar came here to warn him about doing what he was doing or pose a real threat to him but he came to only chit chat and leave.

“You coward” Skylar said and Edgar stopped and turned to look at him.

“My Lord” he bowed respectfully before continuing his trip to the door and exiting the room.

Edgar walked back to his room, his mind deep in thoughts, Skylar was even more stupid than he thought. And suddenly, he felt like someone was following him closely behind. He continued walking like he didn’t know of the person behind him.

He took a turn and when the person took the same turn, he didn’t see Edgar anymore and he searched around thinking of where he might have entered because they were no rooms on this turn.

“Who sent you?”Edgar said standing behind him and the young man nearly jumped out of his own skin.

“No one my Lord, I wanted to speak to you in person about a delicate matter” the man said as he shook in fear.

“Why didn’t you just walk up to me?” Edgar said with a stern look on his face.

“It is too important and if the wrong person hears of it, I might not live very long” the man said and Edgar understood.

“What’s your name?” Edgar said.

“Donald” the man replied.

“What’s the problem?” Edgar said deciding to listen what he had to say.

“Few years ago, my little daughter fell ill of a rare illness and I asked the Alpha for a little help to feed her and buy her medicine. Instead of help, he sent me away after having me beaten by the guards for entering into the council room unannounced” the man paused and cleaned the tears that dropped from his eyes.

“After few weeks of this incident, my daughter died in my arms and since then I have been waiting patiently for an opportunity to have my revenge” Donald said and Edgar understood how he felt, but there was just something about the man that felt off, something fishy.

“What position do you currently hold in this house?” Edgar said.

“I work at the dinning” he replied.

“The dinning” Edgar said squinting his eyes as he tried to resist the urge to ask the man if he knew anything about who poisoned the general.

“And I know who poisoned the general” Donald said confidently.

“How do you know that” Edgar said.

“I saw everything happen before my own eyes, it was one of the soldiers” the man said.

“Hmm, can you identify the person if they were brought before you?” Edgar said with his brow furrowed.

“Yes, I can” the man replied confidently.

“That’s good” Edgar said already thinking of wha to do.

“Lord Skylar, has a plan to kill you and take the Lady Sapphire for himself” the man said.

“I know that already” Edgar replied.

“But you don’t know why?” the man said and Edgar was intrigued again, there was too much that this man knew, too much for someone who works in the kitchen.

“And you do know why?” Edgar said again.

“Yes my Lord” the man said

“Tell me, what’s the reason” Edgar said.

“When you disappeared, the Alpha performed a spell that made everyone related to him by blood remain in their wolf form forever. After that the witch told him the prophecy of a werewolf that will become the most powerful like Darius the great”

“He will marry the girl from the blue stone pack who was more powerful than all her ancestors and they will both share this great power” the man said and paused for a while.

“So that’s the reason for all these drama” Edgar said lost in his own thought as he calculated how this was related to all the plans Skylar had tried to execute.

“Yes, Skylar thinks he is that werewolf” Donald said with a straight face.

“I want you to speak of this with no one, go back to your duty post. Do you understand me?” Edgar said very strictly.

“Yes my Lord” Donald said and left in the opposite direction.

“And Donald” Alex said and the man paused.

“Sorry for the loss of your daughter” he said.

“Thank you my Lord” Donald said smiling gratefully and he bowed respectfully when Edgar walked away.
