“You’re married to Ms. Natalie De Luca," he said, and my eyes went cold. I guess he saw the change in my demeanor, and he raised his hands.
“I’m guessing you haven't made it public because you don’t want her to become a target. So let's clear this up and you can be on your way, or we'll have to bring her in, and I'm sure you won’t want that," he said.
My face was calm, but I was raging on the inside; all I wanted to do in that second was put a bullet into his fucking head for even mentioning her name.
"So, Mr. Ferro, will you help us clear this up?” he asked, but I had no interest in talking anymore. He tried asking more questions, but I remained quiet. After a while he picked up the folder and walked out.
Fuck, I didn't want her dragged into this; I forgot we were legally married. I didn't want her here. Even if they brought her in, she had no idea what happened, and she would never say a word; that much I know. She would rather die than sell me out. They were right; the living room was covered in blood, but what these fuckers didn't know was that I didn't kill them in their own house. I killed them somewhere else, and it was me and Jules, with Brax.
I killed them in a basement; their blood was thrown into the living room. I created my own crime scene, and these stupid fuckers have no idea. I stopped checking the time after four hours because I wasn't leaving as yet. When the door opened again, the same detective was standing there along with an officer and Anton. I stood up and grabbed my jacket and walked out; I didn't say a word to them. The second we were outside, I looked at Anton.
“Did they call her or bring her here?”
“They tried; they went to Vanguard. She told them she had a business to run, and unless you were being charged or she was being charged, then they could get a warrant for her, but until then she had a company to run. Madam Isador tried to take over Vanguard; however, your father and uncles took over and handled her. She is at the family home. Madam is still at the vanguard. Lucas Moretti was in Vanguard, in your office, when she got there two days ago. She ordered Oris to lock him up. Everything is going smoothly.” he said
I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding in. She held everything down. She was strong enough to hold on. I checked the time; it was almost five in the afternoon.
“You go ahead and do what you need to.”
"Yes, Mr. Ferro," Anton said, getting into his car. Jules opened the door for me, and I got in. "Jules, take me home first."
"Yes, Boss, your parents are at home," Jules said.
When I walked into the house, it was quiet and it felt off. My mother stood up and came to me, checking me over. “Are you okay?” she asked quietly.
“I’m fine."
“Nikolai. What happened?, did you?” my father asked.
“They deserved it for fucking putting hands on her."
“Who?” my mother asked.
"Isla," I said before even realizing it. “Who is Isla?” my mother asked, looking confused.
“Isla is Natalie, or Natalie is Isla," I said with a sigh.
“What exactly is going on, explain clearing Nikolai" my father said. I took a seat and looked at them.
“That incident when i was 10, on that hillside.” I said, looking at my mother, and she made a face.
“Don’t remind me about that.” she said.
“That little girl that saved me was her. Her real name is Isla Valerius.”
“The Valerius heir?” I asked, looking at him.
“You know who that is?” My mother asked, looking at him.
“Yes, They were the top of society, before we made our mark. If she is a Valerius then she is weather than the entire Riverside” my father said.
“I met her five years ago; she was sold to me by the Rhodes." I told them everything important about her that they would need to know. After I was finished, my mother just stared at me.
“So, you never had any intention of marrying anyone else but her?” she asked.
"No, and now that she is here, she isn’t leaving. She’s my wife and will remain my wife.”
“Very well. Your grandmother is at her house; she intends to stay in Riverside and is trying to make everyone choose sides.” My father said.
“I’ll deal with that. I need a shower and sleep.”
“Go ahead," they said, standing up and walking out. After they left, I headed up to my room and took a shower. I was running on fumes, but I needed to see her. I got dressed and headed back down. I was about to leave when Maria stopped me.
“Mr. Ferro, please have dinner. I am aware you don’t eat without the madam, but you need to eat; I've already prepared dinner for you. Wesley has already taken the madam's dinner. Madam will be angry if you don’t eat," she said.
I looked at the door and then back at the table. “Fine." I took a seat, and she served me. I really didn't want to eat without her, but I had no choice. After I ate, I left with Jules. On the way to Vanguard, I called Brax; he answered on the first ring.
"Boss," he said.
“It’s fine. Keep an eye on things; the camera in my office at Vanguard shut it down until I saw otherwise.”
“Yes, Boss," he said.
When we got to Vanguard, it was already dark out. I didn't waste any time; I headed straight in and up. When I stepped out of the elevator, Arol was at his desk eating, Oris and Wesley were sitting in a chair, and the damn dog was playing with a chew toy. When the second Ares saw me, he rushed me.
“Back off.” I pushed him, but he wouldn't give up. I rubbed his head, and he settled down.
“Take him home; Oris, you can go too. Arlo, you can have tomorrow off," I said before walking into the office. I didn't wait for them to reply. Just then she walked out of the bathroom; her hair was damp, and she was wearing a T-shirt and sweatpants. When she saw me, I saw it. The second relief flood her eyes, her shoulder dropped and i saw her entire body relax. “Nikolai” she barley whispered my name and i heard everything in that one word.
She dropped the towel and walked over to me. I pulled her into me and buried my face in the crook of her neck. She was home, and that fucking thought hit me like a train; she was my sanctuary, my safe space.
