Chapter 54 Chapter 54

Chapter 54 Chapter 54
Isla

I went back to Nikolai’s office and stayed there. "I called Anton," he said. The police were holding him, they could, up to 36 hours, because Lerenzo made some serious accusations.  I knew he did it; everyone knew, proving it was the problem and that would keep him as long as they could and try to get anything to pin it on him.
Around nine, Arlo came in. “Mrs. Ferro, Mr. Ferro has a shower here. I don't feel safe leaving Vanguard," he said, and I nodded.

“I understand. I’m not leaving either. Don’t worry about dinner; I'll have dinner brought."
“Okay.”

I called Maria and asked her to send clothes for me and also food for me and the others.I replied to some emails until Wesley showed up with my food and clothes. I told him to share the food with Arlo and the others and that I wouldn't be leaving Vanguard Global until Nikolia returned, and he nodded. I found the bathroom and showered and then sat to eat, but it felt wrong. I wondered if he had eaten.

Nikolai

I just stared at the coffee. I’ve been in the interrogation room for over three hours. I know without a doubt that I wouldn't be leaving here anytime soon.
When the officers showed up at my office, I wasn't surprised; I knew they would. I expected them to show up earlier if I was being honest, but they took their precious time. Before I walked out, I looked at Arlo and told him, "Natalie is now in control." I had no doubt that he would get her and let her know.

By the time we got to the Riverside police station, Anton was waiting. I told him I was fine; stick to her. He nodded and left.
When I walked into the interrogation room, I took off my jacket and sat down and waited for them; this wasn't new to me, this was normal. They had no proof tying me to the deaths of the Morettis; it was just speculation and accusation, but they could only hold me for so long.

They wouldn't be coming to me for a few hours, so I sat there and waited. I made it a point of not bringing my phone. They didn’t even say what they brought me here for, and they wouldn't. I always enjoy watching them bring me here and then letting me go. It was a fun game, and they would never catch me slipping up.
I was Nikolia Ferro; this wasn’t my first murder, but it was the first time I lost all rational thought because that fucker put hands on her. I would let his shit slide, but when it comes to her, that was a big fucking no; no one touches her and lives.

I didn't just decide to teach Lorenzo a lesson out of thin fucking air; I was careful. At 18 I learned the one rule to never getting caught: never be seen, don’t say a word, and never leave traces of yourself. Before I even walked out of that house, I already had a double and my alibi in place. They could check and all they’ll see is me at a restaurant until three in the morning, nothing else.

I was worried about Stefan and what he would do. Now that I was here, Lorenzo would probably think my guard was down and try to make a move. Stefan would make a move, and the first place they would try to take was Vanguard. Vanguard was the head; as long as you were in Vanguard, then you had control over the entire Ferro empire.

I loosened my tie and checked the time. It was almost eleven. The door opened and Anton walked in.
"Boss," he said. I raised my hand, stopping him.
“Is she in control of Vanguard?” I asked, my voice coming out rougher than I expected.
“I am returning from Vanguard. She is in control; the family follows her orders. She has Stefan and Gia under house arrest until you return. Madam Isador just returned to Riverside. Oris is here. She…" he stopped and paused.

“What?”
“She is worried about you. I will handle all legal proceedings, but there isn't anything," he said. This wasn't his first rodeo. We’ve done this shit many times. He put the bag on the table.

“Madam says her words." Eat or you’ll regret it; I'll handle it.' Like I said, her words, not mine," he said before walking out.

She was worried about me? Of course she was. I could relax; she could handle it. But my grandmother returning now smelled of trouble, but Isla would be on guard. I was halfway into eating when the door opened and one of the officers walked in, and behind him was Lorenzo. I stared at them.

“Where the fuck is my brother Ferro?" Lorenzo shouted, and the office stopped him. I put the fork down and stared at him. Then I looked at the officer.
“I was brought here and left her for over four hours. Why am I here? I have no idea, and no one has said anything or interrogated me. "Why exactly am I here? I haven't done anything wrong," I asked, looking at the officer.

"NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU, SICK FUCK! YOU KILLED MY PARENTS!" Lorenzo shouted, and the officer had to hold him back. I kept my face neutral. Another officer showed up, and they held him back.
“Mr. Moretti, we are business rivals; I wouldn't go that far.”

“Where is my fucking brother?” he asked again.
“You claim I and your words killed your parents. Now you are asking about your brother. I suggest you look for your brother because he isn't in here with me; I'm here alone.”

“You… you…" she started saying, but the officers dragged him off. I continued eating. Why was he looking for Lucas and where was Lucas? Wait, she couldn't have Lucas, could she? I made myself comfortable, it was going to be a long 36 hours. When the door opened again, it was six the next morning; a detective walked in and took a seat opposite me.

“Mr. Ferro, i am Detective Pines. I just need to get some things straight” he said.
“You already know where I was, at what time, with whom, and my movements; you already know it all and have spoken to the people I was with. That is why you took this long to come in here. You just want to see if anything I say deviates from what you found.”

He threw the folder onto the table and looked at me. “Fine, let's cut to the chase. Did you kill Gail and Rodney Moretti?” he asked.
“No, why would I?"
“They were murdered in their home, hacked to pieces; it seems some had a deep-seated grudge. The entire living room was soaked in blood," he said. But I didn't flinch.

“Maybe they have enemies."
“Maybe, but you have a deep-rooted rivalry with the Morettis," he said.
“And you think, no, I'm assuming Lorenzo Moretti thinks I was behind this?” I asked, and he nodded.
