Chapter 31 Survive

Chapter 31 Survive

I stood in front of a large casino, convinced I'd be returning to this city. I don't know what made me think I could survive here after what I'd experienced last week with Leo.

Strangely, I was starting to feel drawn to staying here, even though I knew it might not be safe enough for me. But I felt connected to this city because Leo was here.

"Are you sure you can do this job?" asked the manager of the bar where I'd applied for a position as a waitress, located on the fifth floor of The Emerald casino.

"Yes, I've worked in a bar in Tokyo before. So, I know a bit about the duties of a bartender," I said confidently.

Besides, I wasn't too concerned about the salary I'd receive from this job, considering I'd already paid off my father's two million dollar debt. It was a sum I couldn't possibly repay anytime soon, and the reaction of my mother, Mei, and Sora upon my return was truly amusing

"What do you mean, you want to pay off Dad's debts now?" Mei asked, her face resembling a Pekingese. Rather than being surprised, she seemed displeased that I had so much money that I could pay off all of my father's debts.

"I'm asking to meet the person who lent Dad the money immediately. I'll pay him directly and ask for the settlement letter."

At that moment, I was sure that the debt problem would soon be resolved. However, in reality, Dad didn't owe any one person. Besides the bank debt, he also owed money to five people, one of whom I hadn't been able to meet, even though 60 percent of Dad's total debt was owed to that person.

"Mr. Phoenix? What's that person's name? Why is it so difficult to pay off a debt?" I thought. Ridiculously, I only met one of his employees, who instead asked me to wait until his boss, Mr. Phoenix, asked me to meet.

"Okay, you can go home now. I'll call you back after I have a decision!" said the manager.

"Okay, sir, thank you very much!" I said as I left.

I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. Even though I still had a lot of money in my bank account, I couldn't afford to be reckless with it. After all, I hadn't met Mr. Phoenix to return the money my father had borrowed from him, and I also hadn't found a permanent job yet.

My phone has been ringing ever since I returned to this city two days ago. Mom, Mei, and Sora have been calling me nonstop asking for money. Those people can't even do anything without me, and now they think they can pressure me to get money from me.

"Mr. Alex?" I muttered, realizing that Mr. Alex was contacting me again even though I had already submitted my resignation letter.

"H-hello, Mr. Alex, what are you—"

"Hana, where are you? Why didn't you come to the office?" Mr. Alex asked, acting as if he didn't know anything.

"H-Didn't I already submit my resignation letter?" I asked nervously. I thought my employment contract with him should have been terminated.

"Who are you to decide that? You signed the agreement and the employment contract, so you can't just terminate it like that!" His voice sounded very upset, as if I had made a fatal mistake. However, I feel that I've already passed the first three-month contract, and I can terminate it after I've worked for three months.

"I've already passed the probationary period of the first three-month contract, haven't I? Therefore, I have no obligation to continue the contract with you."

"Didn't you read the contract you signed correctly? It states that the first party has the right to automatically continue the contract if the film sells well and sells well. If the second party doesn't request a termination two weeks before the contract expires, the first party automatically continues the contract. If the second party fails to perform their duties without a clear reason, the second party is considered negligent and has intentionally avoided responsibility."

What the hell? Was there something like that in the contract? No, I didn't read the contract carefully, now what? Do I just go back and continue my work in the industry or do I pretend to disappear until this is resolved?

"Hello? Hana? Hana, can you hear me? If you can, tell me where you are now?" Mr. Alex sounded increasingly irritated. I was in real trouble. Now what? What should I do?

"I-I'm sorry, Mr. Alex! But I have urgent business at the moment, so I can't work for the time being. I'm truly sorry! I'll call you back later, see you later?" I said, hastily ending the call.

I was feeling extremely panicked. I hoped Mr. Kiyose didn't know I was back in Las Vegas, because otherwise, he might tell Mr. Alex that I was in town and planning to start a new life there.
