Chapter 15

I woke up in a white room. I saw my mom next to my bed, sleeping while holding my hand. I just remembered everything.

My baby...

"M-Mommy," I mumbled. She immediately woke up and quickly examined my body.

"Yes princess. Is anything wrong with you? Tell mommy," she said.

I started to cry in fear. "Mommy please tell me, m-my baby, please tell me my baby is safe." I begged her while pressing her hand.

"Ssshh, calm down please. This will stress you out. Yes, yes, the baby is safe. Now calm down dear." Mommy smiled at me as she caressed my face.

I just closed my eyes and took a deep breath. My hand immediately landed on my belly.

Thank you, baby... Thank you for fighting... I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

"I'm so scared Mommy. I thought... I thought she would take me." I admit.

"I know, I know," she said.

I just noticed Andrei sitting on the side. His eyes were red, while his hair was messy. His polo shirt was also tangled. I wanted to feel pity but my anger prevailed.

"What are you doing here?!" I shouted while looking at him angrily.

I saw the pain in his eyes as he looked at me.

"My child, please, calm down." My mother pleaded as she held my arm to calm me down.

"Leave. Please leave. I don't want to see you. Please." I beg. He stood before looking at me again.

His lips twitched. "I'm so sorry baby. I'm so sorry," he said and burst into tears.

"Please Andrei leave. I want to rest. Please." I beg again.

He just nodded then slowly walked away.

I just closed my eyes and cried quietly.

"Do you want something?" Mommy asked me with a smile.

I just shook my head in response. "I just want to rest first."

"Okay just call me when you need something okay?" she said then kissed me on the forehead.

I just smiled and laid down on my bed when she left. I just got out of the hospital after five days of confinement.

During my few days in the hospital, Andrei tried to approach me every day, but I always pushed him away. My condition is very delicate and I do not want my child to be stressed out.

I heard my phone ring on the side table of the bed. I slowly got up and looked at it. A message came from Andrei. It read:

Are you home? How are you? Are you still mad at me? I'm so sorry baby. Please talk to me when you're ready. Let me explain please, believe me I don't know anything. I miss you, wife.

I read his message over and over again, but maybe my brain is just too tired now to understand. I just turned off my cellphone and laid down again while holding my stomach.

Just give me some time baby. I can't do it yet.

"Cassandra...wake up, let's eat." I woke up to Mom's gentle pat on my arm.

"Let's eat, I cooked adobo," she said with a smile.

My face immediately went pale with what I heard. Even though I can't smell the adobo, I'm sick of it in my mind.

"What?" She asked as she saw my face.

"I'm sorry Mom. I know you worked hard to cook that for me, but can you cook another dish? Even fried eggs are okay. It's just that I vomit when I smell adobo."

Mommy smiled at me and stroked my hair. "You remind me when I was pregnant. I also didn't like the smell of adobo." She said, then laughed.

"Really?" I could not help but rejoice in our commonality.

"Yes. Oh, if you only knew how you tortured me when I was pregnant with you, I was really delicate." Mommy's happy story made me smile.

I gently touched my belly. "He's the same Mom, he's very artistic. Sometimes I don't know if I'm the sensitive one, or he is." I laughed and then looked at her.

I was surprised when she cried, looking at me while smiling.

She touched my face and kissed me on the forehead. "I love you. Only now do I see that you will be a good mother to your child."

Tears welled up in my eyes. "You think so?"

She smiled and nodded. I immediately hugged her tightly. "Thank you, Mom," I whispered sincerely as she stroked my hair.

We were in that situation when we heard the doorbell ring outside.

"Are you expecting someone?" I wondered.

Don't tell me she has a boyfriend!

Mommy smiled at me, then kissed me on the forehead again and started to stand up.

"It's your husband. There's just something going on, wanna see him?" she asked.

I slowly walked to my window.

There he is.

Mommy did not wait for my answer and left the room.

He was standing outside the gate with his car was parked next to him. Even though I was upstairs, his appearance did not escape me. I wanted to feel pity, because this was not how I normally saw him; I was used to seeing him properly clothed, not even a single wrinkle in his clothes, while now, he was messy. He was still in good condition, but he had messy hair, and I could see creases in his polo.

What is he doing to himself?

Shouldn't he be happy? He will have a child with his love.

I watched my mom open the gate and talk to him. Andrei handed her a paper bag, and then looked in my direction. I immediately hid, even though I knew he saw me.

I don't know if I was just imagining it, but his eyes were dark around, as if they had not been closed for several days.

I peeked again when I heard the engine of his car turn on. He slowly maneuvered it away.

Why am I having such a hard time?

I really lost my temper with him. I don't know if I was really angry, or just upset because the truth is that his woman is really to blame for why I am like this.

You miss your daddy? I thought as I caressed my womb.

Later, I heard a knock at the same time as Mommy entered. She greeted me with a smile, and then sat on my bed.

"Come here," she called softly.

I walked closer and sat next to her. I felt her let out a deep breath, then hug me.

"I know I did not ask about anything the past few days because I was worried about your condition, so I waited for you to be well. Always remember my child, I'm here,” she said full of emotion, then let go of my hug.

She looked at me softly then smiled. "Let him explain," she said sparingly, then left the paper bag he gave her next to me.

"I'll go down to cook another dish, I'll call you when it's ready," she said with a smile, then left.

I stared at the paper bag next to me. I slowly picked it up and opened it. My tears flowed when I saw its contents: twin mangoes. An envelope was with it, so I opened it. It read:

My lovely wife,

I'm really sorry baby. I hope even if you just accept this mango, just think that it did not come from me.

That day when you woke up and puked in the toilet, I had a hunch that you were bearing our child. I had so much fun that day, and at the same time I was sad, because I was waiting for you to tell me, but you didn’t. I finished all my appointments so that I could watch over you. Thank God for your talkative friend, because my suspicions that you were pregnant were confirmed.

As much as I was happy when I knew, I was also angry and afraid of losing you when I found you bleeding in your office. I want to beat Yhanna, but I have to put you first. You are my everything Cassandra, you and our baby.

I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry that our baby was almost lost because of Yhanna. I did not expect her reach that point just to destroy us. I've been wanting to talk to you for a long time about our relationship, but maybe destiny can play a role.

First, your dad died, and I didn't know how to talk to you, because I knew you were still mourning him. Second, this fucking thing that happened.

I was hurt every time you pushed me away at the hospital, but it was my fault so I could do nothing but accept all your anger; but can you please hear me out? I'll explain everything baby. Just please don't do this. Just thinking of you drifting away from me kills me.

I love you, Cassandra. I really do. Please come back home. I miss you so much.

Your loving husband,

Andrei.
