Chapter 13
We are currently eating at an expensive restaurant. Even though I was wondering what he was doing, I just let it go.
I do not want to think negative things; I didn't know how it would affect my baby. It's funny to think that even though he's only been in my stomach for two weeks, that's how I was already thinking.
"How's work?" he asked formally.
"It’s okay, I have problems sometimes, but they're always resolved immediately. You?"
He let go of his spoon and wiped his mouth. He drank first before looking at me.
"Hectic, tiring," he said sincerely.
"Did something happen?" I asked.
"There was a project in Cavite that failed, so that's what I've been fixing these past few days. It's a good thing everything is fine now, I can be with you," he said, then smiled at me.
Neither of us said anything for a few seconds.
I faked a laugh to loosen up the tension. He continued to eat. Soon after, his phone rang, he looked at me and answered it.
"Okay, just leave it there. Thanks," he simply replied to the other person and lowered the line.
Was that really it? It must not be his girlfriend, because that was the fastest call ever.
Think positive Cassandra.
"It's Daevon, my friend, my best man when we got married."
I just nodded, then continued eating the same thing he did.
"He's also the one you planned to body shot," he said without hesitation.
I choked and then the curiously looked at him.
He smirked at my reaction. "Seems like you don't remember. The last time I picked you up with your friend, I caught you drinking, and trying to kiss his hand." His jaw tightened as he said the last line.
It was as if all my blood went to my face. Now I know why he was so familiar.
I heard him chuckle, so I turned my attention back to him. He was smiling while looking at me.
"Pretty."
With that, I blushed more, no longer in shame, but in excitement, so he laughed even more. I was surprised when he suddenly stood up and kissed me on the lips for a moment, before sitting down again.
I just covered my face when it heated.
"Aww, my baby's blushing." he said softly.
"Damn you Villa Cruz," I hissed.
"Yes, Mrs. Villa Cruz?"
DAMN!
It was past six o'clock when we got home. The guard greeted him and handed him a paper bag; maybe that's what his friend Daevon called him about.
"Let's go," smiling, he invited me with his hand.
When we entered the unit, he immediately went straight to the kitchen while I was in the room to getting dressed.
My mango...
I weeped over that thought. I didn't know if it's intentional for pregnancy to be like this, but it's stressful and depressing when you don't get what you want.
I had just finished getting dressed when Andrei entered the room. I was stunned because he was carrying a plate. There was a mango on top of it—not just a mango, but a twin mango.
Fuck, I hope Ayesha said nothing.
"Uhm, do you like it?" he asked me while scratching his head, as if he was ashamed of what he was doing.
I don't know why, but I just cried. I felt like I was too emotional. He quickly set it aside on the table and approached me.
"Hey, what's wrong?" he said anxiously as he wiped away my tears.
All I could do was shake.
All because of a damn mango.
"Don’t you like it?" he asked me carefully.
"I like it!" I answered quickly. He smiled and then wiped the remaining tears from my face.
"All right, stay there. I'll cut the mangoes for you to eat, want that?" he said, as if I was being babbled.
"Yes, I want that." I whispered softly then sniffed.
I saw the reflection of a smile on his lips, then he sealed it with a quick kiss on the lips. He peeled the mango and split it before presenting it to me.
"Would you like some sauce?" he asked when he handed me the plate containing the mango.
"Yes please?" as if I was a child given a candy at that moment.
"Salt? Soy sauce?" he asked.
"Ketchup" I said with my biggest smile.
I saw horror on his face after what I said.
"You sure?" he asked, then examined the mango.
I just nodded and smiled. He sighed then left the room. In less than a second he was back with a saucer containing ketchup.
Yummy...
The next day, I woke up again as my stomach turned. I spent almost a few minutes in the bathroom vomiting while Andrei was behind me. He stroked my back while holding my hair in his hand.
Baby, please do not torture Mommy.
Fortunately, Andrei was no longer curious, because I did not know what else I would say.
"We'll just use my car," he said behind me as we walked to the parking lot.
I looked at him in surprise.
"Huh? But we're going somewhere different," I said.
"I'm coming with you," he said formally.
"Won't you be needed for your work?"
He started walking, then opened his car. "I told you, I finished my work so I could have time for you. If there is a need in the company, my secretary will just call me. Now let's go?"
I was just dumbfounded and got in his car.
I don’t know how we lasted a few hours together. I could see him occasionally glancing at me and smiling.
Your Daddy is creepy now, baby.
I was surprised when the door suddenly opened and my friend Ayesha spat. "GOOD AFTERNOON PREG—beautiful friend!"
Ayesha almost fainted in shock when she saw Andrei sitting on the sofa. I don't know if I should be thankful that she didn't continue what she was supposed to say, or be angry because she was really very talkative at any time.
"Hehe you're here, Mr. Villa Cruz," she hesitated and then gave me a you-didn't-tell-me look.
"Just taking care of my wife," was his simple response that made my friend's eyes widen.
"You know?" she said while her mouth was forming an O.
"Know what?" Andrei asked with a raised eyebrow.
You are really a son of bitch, Ayesha.
I quickly stood up and pulled my friend to my side.
"Sorry, my friend seemed to hit her head when she woke up, so she's saying nonsense," I said uneasily, then simply pinched Ayesha.
She grunted.
Andrei looked at his watch and then stood up.
"It's already lunch. Why don't we eat with your friend?" he formally invited.
I just nodded and quickly grabbed the bag from the table. I simply looked at Ayesha.
"I don't want to disturb a date."
"Don't worry, I'll invite someone over."
"Ohh! Count me in."
I just slapped my forehead to my friend's obvious flirtation.
"Let's go?" Adrian invited, then touched my waist.
Ayesha went out first, so I had a chance to talk to Andrei. Because he was taller than me and hugged me, I had to squat to whisper.
"Who's that someone that you are talking about?" I whispered in his ear.
I was shocked when he crouched down to my neck and kissed it.
"It's Daevon," he mumbled under my neck, which softened my knees. It was good that his hand was on my waist, so I couldn't fall.
"Andrei," I hissed with tenderness.
I just closed my eyes as we continued walking.
"Hmmm yes baby?" he said huskily, his face was still around my neck. The employees we passed by were looking at us.
Gosh! Embarrassing.
"We are in my fucking building for Pete's sake hubby." I hissed.
He suddenly stopped walking so I stopped too. I turned to face him and glared at him, but that did not seem to have any effect on him.
"What did you just say?" he asked me.
I automatically raised an eyebrow. "I said we are in the building," I repeated.
"No not that, after that," he said.
What did I say? I wondered what he was referring to.
I blushed as I remembered what he was referring to. I just averted my eyes and started walking away. "I-I don't know what you are talking about, I can't remember," I said quickly then walked away.
Even before I could go far, I was able to return for the strong forces that pulled me. At the same time, his soft lips touched mine.
He gave me a soft and dry kiss before breaking it.
"Now tell me baby, what is it again? He said softly as his eyes glinted with gentleness.
"Hubby." With that he kissed me again.
