Chapter 70 Chapter 70

Chapter 70 Chapter 70
For a brief moment, there was an inkling of blissful relief: no worries or fears. Just two people who weren’t ever meant to care for each other doing exactly that – engaging in something intimate, not for anyone else’s benefit, but simply their own.
Something that should have been so wrong… felt so right.
The pair’s hands seemed to fall perfectly on the right places on one another – a subtle craving in the back of their minds, saying that they want more.
Yet, the feeling couldn’t last forever.
Reynard leaned into Brendan’s touch, but his mind rapidly hauled him back to reality. He pushed him away harshly and covered his mouth. “What are you doing?” he chastised breathlessly.
Panting, Brendan spluttered, “I-I don’t know. I was angry, but then I felt this… This–”
“Pull?” Rey finished for him.
He nodded.
Denial consumed him as he shook his head. “It’s not possible. You’re not… We’re not…”
“It has to be the bond with Suki,” Brendan faltered.
Reynard hesitated, “Right, that has to be it. Whatever is temporarily weakening our bond with her is messing with us, too.”
Brendan sighed, “But what if it’s not?”
“What?”
“What if we do have something between us?”
“Oh, please,” Reynard scoffed, “That’s not possible. It’s impossible for two male werewolves to bond.”
Crossing his arms, Brendan huffed, “Just like a female werewolf can’t have two male mates?”
Reynard swallowed thickly.
“It’s safe to say that a lot of supposedly ‘unnatural’ things have been happening to many different werewolves,” Brendan wondered. “But how can we question what’s happening when we’re all guided by the Moon Goddess. She helps us all on our paths, even filthy Rogues like myself?”
“Don’t call yourself that,” Rey said so speedily in response that he almost didn’t realise he uttered it.
Brendan arched a brow. “What?”
A small wave of heat pinched his cheeks. “Don’t call yourself a filthy Rogue.”
“You’ve called me that countless times.”
“I know,” Reynard muttered. He wanted to apologise for his cruel words, but a frenzy of emotions was spiralling through his head, overwhelming him.
Tilting his head, Brendan stepped closer. “Mr Perfect, are you seriously considering apologising to me?”
Rey choked on the air around him. “Get out of my head, you prick.”
That wall the two of them had up to ignore their connection, and their hidden thoughts and feelings for one another – it was crumbling, and both of them could feel each other’s connection trickling through the cracks.
“What?” Brendan laughed. “It’s not my fault that I can feel your emotions and thoughts even clearer now. Must’ve been that kiss.” He shrugged.
Reynard winced. “Right…”
Stepping closer, Brendan scanned Rey’s face. “For what it’s worth, I actually don’t mind it when you call me a filthy Rogue.”
“Seriously?” His brows rose, and his gaze softened, looking into Brendan’s pitch-black eyes.
Huffing a half-laugh, Brendan smiled faintly. “Yeah. I don’t know, it’s kind of…hot…when you say it in that annoyed tone of yours.” This time, it was Brendan’s cheeks that flushed with a slight pink hue. “It’s like I fire you up a lot and I kinda enjoy that.”
Reynard cleared his throat. “We… We should stop. We’re saying a lot of things – things we might not even mean.”
“Then…” Brendan’s tone shifted to be subtly softer and slower. “Maybe we should stop talking altogether.”
His blue eyes flickered between Brendan’s shadowy eyes. Hesitant at first, but as the pull between them felt stronger and stronger, he couldn’t take it anymore. Reynard grabbed Brendan by his shirt and hauled him closer.
Their lips crashing with one another again, this time more intently, more passionately and more carelessly for what the so-called ‘rules’ say they should do.
Both of their hands scrambled across each other’s bodies, trying to find the right spot to hold one another and be closer to each other. They were frantic and messy, but they didn’t care; they just had to feel each other – not just physically, but through their own bond that they had no idea even existed, not like this.
But it was there, it was real, and for that moment they yearned to embrace it.
Brendan nudged against Rey, pushing him against the wall and pressing his body against his.
Reynard ran his fingers through Brendan’s thick, dark locks, fisting his hair in a tight grip.
A groan escaped Brendan’s mouth, brushing against Rey’s lips.
“Too rough?” Rey questioned in a weak whisper, slightly out of breath.
He tittered, also breathless, “Not rough enough.” He grazed his teeth against Rey’s lower lip.
He murmured a pleased groan. “Oh, you are trouble, aren’t you?”
Brendan smirked, planted another, softer kiss on Rey’s lips and whispered. “Maybe we should slow down before we wake–”
A faint, shuddering gasp caught their attention. Both their heads turned towards the sound to see Suki standing in the frame of the kitchen door, wide-eyed, looking at them.
Her two mates parted, leaving enough space between each other, and fell deathly silent as they both stared at her, shocked and terrified of what she may have seen.
‘Shit,’ they both said in unison down the bond.
Reynard and Brendan briefly looked at each other, surprised as they heard each other’s thoughts crystal clear.
They looked back at Suki, whose mouth had parted slightly from her shock.
“I… I just wanted to get some water,” she said quietly. “I heard some racket, I thought you two were arguing again, and… and…”
“Ki,” Reynard stepped towards her.
She stepped back.
Rey froze at her rejection. His heart twisted in his chest.
“Love.” Brendan stepped forward, but stopped also as Suki retreated another step. “Let us explain, please.”
“Y-You two were…” She shook her head. “I need some air,” she said speedily and rushed away and out the front door.
Reynard rushed forward to follow her, not wanting her to be outside alone, but Brendan pulled him back. He held his shoulder and spoke gently, “Give her the space, we don’t want to push her away further.”
“Did you see her face?” Rey’s shoulders slumped. He cooed, “We terrified her…”
