CHAPTER SEVENTY-SEVEN
LUCIAN'S P.O.V
I bristled with anger, a growl about to write from my chest but Mirabel held me back with her hand.
"Don't growl at him, Lucian."
"I'm not." I replied in a strained voice and took a deep breath. Be calm. "Why aren't you giving it back?" I asked with my best calming voice.
He raised a bushy eyebrow.and shrugged in an obvious way.
"Because I paid for it, so why should I give it back?" He sounded indignant, crossing his flabby arms over his chest.
"Fine, its a choice of money. How much did you get it for?"
"Two hundred dollars."
"How about we pay you five hundred dollars, that's double the price and still some change?"
He seemed to think it over, his fingers drumming his jaw, then a slow grin spread over his face and he held out a hand.
"You got yourself a deal."
"Thank you." I shook his hand, they were sweaty. I discreetly wiped it down over my pants.
"Mirabel pay him."
She glanced at me, her lips curling in annoyance as she reached for her pocket.
"Why me? Why not you, you don't have money?"
I rolled my eyes.
"I didn't think of bringing my wallet with me because I wasn't expecting we were going to need it...at a fucking picnic."
"Whatever. It's for Aurora anyway." She pouted and handed the bills to him.
He took them with glee, counted them and went to the back of his van. I suddenly remembered and ran toward him.
"Wait! I'll carry it myself." I didn't want some sweaty hands on her.
His van was dusty and smelled like dried fish, he kept her in a standing form. That was good, at least her body didn't have to touch the dirty place.
Hurriedly and carefully at the same time, I took her back in my arms.
"Let's go." I nodded to them once she was securely in my arms.
"Nice doing business with ya." He yelled behind us.
We barely listened to him and made our way back, running again.
"We did it! We got her." Shawn pumped his fists and slumped onto a chair as soon as we were inside.
I let out a relieved breath as I laid her gently on a large sofa enough to take her size and weight.
"We're lucky we got to him fast." Mirabel answered as she drank water.
"When do you think they'll be back?"
I asked as I paced the sitting room, occasionally glancing at the door and pausing to listen for any sounds.
Mirabel waved her hand.
"Relax, I'm sure they are on their way. It's not easy to find a white witch you know."
I was about to answer when I heard it.
"Wait! Do you hear that sound?" I glanced at them, they sat up quickly and nodded.
We all rushed outside at the sound of the smooth, running of a car engine. Just in time to see Eli opening the door for a young lady with long, black hair in a pony tail. Jake was behind as they led her towards us. I shouldn't notice the way Eli kept on glancing at her face or how he made sure he was right beside her, but I did.
"Guys, here she is. This is Ariel and she's a white witch." He introduced her.
She smiled, a tilt of her lips and waved.
"Hello, My name is Ariel Nasuri. I heard you are in need of my services." She had a calming voice but thars not the point.
"Yes, hurry. I think she was cursed."
I beckoned her to come in, sve followed silently behind me.
"This is her. I found her like this after she wanted to go for a little look around."
She was quiet as she leaned closer and placed her hand on the statue's head, her eyes closed in concentration.
"Interesting." She murmured.
"Can you fix it? Can you turn her back?"
My voice was a little bit loud as I asked, I didn't even notice that my muscles were too stiff from the tension.
She opened her eyes and black void stared back at me.
"I'm not sure, all I can do is try. Though I can barely feel any life from the statue."
"What?!" Mirabel squeaked
"You don't mean..." I shook my head, my pupils already trembling. "She can't be dead right."
Ariel shook her head, "I'm not saying that. Let's just try. Please raise the statue in a standing position."
"I'll do it." Jake volunteered and was raising the statue before I knew it. Trepidation passed through me as I watched him.
"Be careful."
"I got this." He grunted and slowly made his way over to Ariel.
Everything was going well, until he suddenly tripped over something and then...
'Crash'
"Nooooooooo!!!" I yelled and rushed over in a flash, falling up my knees to gather the broken pieces of the statue.
"What have you done?!!!" Mirabel screamed, her voice shrill.
"How could you let this happen! You had only one job!!" Eli yelled.
"I...I...I'm so sorry....I don't know what happened....I stumbled over something....I'm sorry." Jake couldn't stop apologizing, going to his knees and staring at the pieces which I was cuddling to my body.
Tears leaked from my tear ducts and fell like a waterfall down my cheek.
"Au..Aurora!! Ah!!! Why!" I sobbed, my shoulders shaking. "Please...please come back to me...I'm begging you."
"Ariel, can...can you fix it? Can you send it?" I heard Eli asking her, I paused my sobbing to listen.
"I'm sorry...but I can't fix broken things."
"Noooo." I cried out again as I tightly pressed the pieces to my body, letting the debris sting my chest and hands.
No one said a word, only my strangled sobbings and Mirabel's sniffing was heard.
"Please come back to me." I whispered, my voice scratchy and weak.
'Bang'
The door suddenly slammed open and someone rushed inside with stomping footsteps.
"How dare you guys leave me alone out there by myself!!!"
"Huh?"
"Aurora?"
