Chapter 164 164
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FOUR
AURON'S P.O.V
"Oh, that." I cleared my throat, becoming serious, a hard glint settling in my eyes. "I already made a plan I'm going to stick to. I'm going back to the pack, I'm sure they are wondering why I'm not back yet..."
"Yeah that's puzzling me. Why haven't anyone of your men come to searh for you?" Aurora asked with a tilt of her head, a frown on her lips. "They don't care about you or what? Youre the alpha, for crying out loud. There should be at least an army of people looking for you." her vouce was beginning to take on a hard, protective edge.
"No, its not like that." I rushed to assure her as I dipped my hand into my shirt and brought out a thin necklace from my neck, that had a small hourglass on it. Though it was small, there was sand in it and it still worked perfectly like a real hourglass.
"Its because of this."
She leaned in curiously, the rest also leaned in too to get a good look at it.
"What's that?" Lucian asked.
"Its a sort of life force monitor."
"A life force monitor?" He repeated.
"Yeah. Everyone of my men have this on their necks, as long as you are alive, the hourglass keeps moving like a real one but once you are dead, it breaks and the sand disappears. And your loss reflects in other hourglasses as they glow, signaling that you're gone. Everyone will instinctively know who died."
"Wow." Aurora stared at it in fascination, same with Lucian and the others.
"Where did you get such a device?"
"Oh." I cleared my throat. "I made it."
"You made it?" Lucian's eyes shot up in surprise, "Man, that is so cool. You're like...how did you do it?"
I scratched my head, trying to keep myself from blushing.
"Well, I'm pretty good with my hands and stuff, I like to tinker with things so...it just happened."
"I knew my brother had to be so smart, you carry the brains for me. I can't even start to think how difficult that would have been to make." Aurora gushed.
"Like seriously, you hide a lot behind your mask man. Respect." Kale raises his glass to me.
"Please stop..." I was dying from embarrassment, its not everyday I get praised for a job I did, I was always expected to be good at it.
"Can you perhaps make one for Aurora?" Lucian asked carefully, "I'm ready to pay. I just need something to make me feel at ease whenever I'm not near her."
I smiled, knowing where his intentions were coming from.
"It's alright, I'll do it for free and everyone can get one each."
"Really? Thank you." He beamed at me.
"Thanks man." Eli nodded at me.
"Yeah, we mean it." Mirabel chorused after him.
"You're welcome. I'll send them to your pack through Aurora."
"No problem, can't wait." Jake rubbed his hands gleefully.
"We're getting it because of you, dumbass!" Eli growked at him, makug him to lower his head.
"So back on track...they haven't come for you because they know you are still alive. But won't they check up on you?" Lucian asked.
"I already warned them not to come for me and they know to listen. After all, this is not the longest I've been gone. Thee are times I went on a mission and didn't come back until afterwards month. Unless I summon them, they have no business looking for me."
"But...but that's not fair, to you or to them." Aurora shook her head sadly, biting her lower lip. "You'll make them so worried with no news from you and then you might feel lonely from lack of friends around you."
"Trust me Aurora, its better this way. That way they can go on with their lives even if something happens to me, I don't want anyone to worry about me."
She slapped the table.
"Well, now you have no choice anymore. Because as long as I'm here, we are all here, there will be someone to worry about you. Right guys?" She looked around with a fierce expression on her face.
"Right."
"Absolutely."
"No one gets left behind."
They all agreed, staring at me with warm gazes. She looked at me with a victorious smile on her face.
"See? From now on, you have people to worry about you. I used to think I was better off alone, but I know know that friendship and family are important. They can help you go through difficult momments of your life. And I want you to have that, to experience family and friends."
My eyes suddenly felt hot and misty, I blinked rapidly to ward off the tears that wanted to form in my eyes.
"I'm also guessing that's why you wore masks and made your men wear masks too? To stop you and them from getting attached to each other, do that when you lose anyone, you or they, wouldn't feel that sad. Right?"
I nodded slowly.
She shook her head, stood up and went round to come place her hands round my neck. Her warmth and calming scent filtered into my heart and nose, she smelled a little like me but more of her, Lucian and many other things, but they calmed me.
"You don't have to be scared anymore, you are not losing anyone. And even if you do, it's okay to cry and mourn them, miss them then move on with your life." She whispered.
I pat her hands softly.
"Thank you, Aurora."
"I hope you know that I love you right."
I let out a chuckle.
"I know that, and I love you too."
We hugged for a while then she went back to her seat.
I felt something warm on my hand and looked down, Eleanor was staring at me with a warm, happy smile on her face, her eyes misty.
"Welcome home." She squeezed my hand.
"Thank you." I squeezed her hand back.
Then I took a deep breath. "As I was saying, I plan to go back to the pack and make a few changes and announcement which I'm sure is going to shock Elder Mikhail. I also intend to ask him why he tried to stop me from having a relationship with you and if he had any other motives."
"What if he doesn't want to speak?" Kieran asked with a bored look on his face.
I grinned at him, the kind of grin I grinned when I need to torture an enemy
"He will speak, I will make sure ofV
it."
