Chapter 139 139
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINE
AURON'S P.O.V
There was silence for a while after I asked my question. The only sound was the brief wind knocking against the window and the cackling of the embers and flames in the fireplace. Then slowly he reached up a hand and pulled off his mask. Weathered face beaten by age and toughened by the passage of hard life with thin firm lips stared at me.
"The first time I told you about this, I didn't want to break your heart but I had to let you know." His voice moved through the room, strong and at the same time soothing. "The second time, you asked and I assured you it was the truth. This is the third time, for the sake of what we have been through together and my loyalty to you, I plead that it be the last. Because I am tired of being asked about a very humiliating day for me. I have told you what I have told you, its up to you you believe it."
He finished and stepped back, putting his mask on his face once again. My heart pulled at me for doubting h, a man who had done so much for me. There was no way he was going to lie to me now.
"I'm sorry, Elder Mikhail. I guess I was just..." I liked my lips and looked away. "...just trying to convince myself that she could still be good."
"Well she is not, so stop trying to force yourself into doing what might end up harming you and the pack before it is too late. I'll be taking my leave, I've gotten the permission I needed."
He bowed, not as low as before and left in a span of time that I will say is quicker than usual. I guess I really hurt his feelings. I know, who wouldn't feel that way after being doubted by the person who thought would never doubt you.
"And its all because of her." I growled.
She was trouble, absolute trouble and trouble is what I should avoid. Just as I was about to brainstorm on how to deal with her, a loud growl erupted from my stomach. I then remembered that even though I had given her food, I also hadn't eaten yet.
"Right after I eat, then I can brainstorm."
I left my room and headed for the dining table. As soon as I sat down, and older, petite woman hurried over to me.
"Alpha, what would you like to eat?"
I waved my hand, looking bored.
"Just get me anything as long as its delicious. I'm starving."
"Yes Alpha."
I drummed my fingers on the table while waiting, she should really hurry. My stomach hasn't shut up since, thars why I didn't choose a specific food, I was too hungry to care.
Soon, I was served with a plate full of steak and mashed potatoes, a plate of ham filled sandwiches. Perfect. I was eating with gusto when I was interrupted, again.
"Alpha..."
"What is it now?" I almost whined. Sometimes, I hate being the alpha. No privacy.
The man faltered before clearing his throat.
"The prisoner..."
"Correction, not a prisoner, a guest." I cut in and continued eating. A prisoner stays a long time, a guest leaves eventually.
"The guest is refusing to eat and demands to speak with you."
I rolled my eyes.
"Tell her, I will speak with her tomorrow."
"She also said if you don't come, she will kill herself."
I immediately looked up at him, my glare so frosty that he went back a few steps.
"She will kill herself?" I growled. "She is definitely crazy."
Without waiting for him to say anything, I stood up with a flare of my cloak and headed to her room. I pushed the door opened then slammed it shut. She was on the bed, sitting with her back pressed to the wall.
"Yay, you came." She said, going me a strange look.
I walked over to her.
"What did you mean by that?"
She gave me a half lidded look beneath her lashes then closed her eyes.
"What are you talking about?"
"You said you were going to kill yourself, were you really going to do that?"
"Yes, so what?"
"So what?" I yelled. "You can't use your life anyhow like that. If you died, how would I explain it to your mate?"
Slowly she pried her eyes open and stared up at me, those golden eyes I was jealous of staring straight at me with mockery.
"So you about my life so much? But you are willing to lock me in her for no reason? Aren't you just being a hypocrite?"
I glared at her and crossed my hands.
"There is nothing hypocritical about what I say or do. I captured you, yes, but I do not intend to hurt you."
"Then why the chains?" She yelled standing up and pointing at her ankle where a chain was attached.
I moved back, her eyes were wide with dark circles underneath them. Her face had lost the healthy look it once had, her cheeks a bit gaunt. I felt guilty. She must be going through a lot in here, that is why I have to be quick.
"If you don't want to hurt me then set me free, let me go. Or better still, since you won't listen to my own side of the story, then maybe you can tell me why I'm here and what you need from me. Because it is obvious you are not looking for a sibling reunion, I've got that now. But you listen to me, I've got a mate out there waiting for me, and he is ready to come barging in here if you dare hurt me." By the time she finished, her chest was heaving up and down, her eyes must with tears.
I lowered my head, my hands balled into fist.
"The chains...the chains are only there to prevent you from escaping." I began slowly, keeping my voice calm from the turmoil of emotions I was experiencing caused by guilt. "And as for why you are here, what I need from you..." I swallowed, my adam's apple bobbing slowly.
She made a quick, impatient motion with her hand.
'Yes, tell me. I don't have all day."
I stared into her eyes.
"I want your powers."
