Chapter 43 Fanged Guest
It felt like cold water was dumped on me from how Kaizer spoke in my mind.
I know he’ll be angry at what I did, but I wasn’t ready for his words. I was the one who wanted to stay away but when I heard he’s letting me leave, I want to take back everything I said. Fuck.
I’m so confused.
But I won’t fool myself anymore. He needs me for Cosette, he needs me because I’m the girl from the prophecy. He needs me for my abilities.
If I stay longer in this world, I’ll just keep getting hurt. He’s feeding me lies.
Why does he talk like he never hurt me? He kept telling me he’d bring back someone important to him using me. Doesn’t he know how painful those words are?
He said so many times he needs me to bring his Cosette back. What will happen to me once I bring back the one he truly loves? He’ll dump me like a goddamn hot potato.
I really should go back to my world. Far away from this complicated place.
I pull my hand away from Idris, who’s staring at me intently. I can’t use him, I can’t be his Luna. And I definitely won’t choose to stay here any longer. The moment the mirror arrives, I’ll leave this world and never come back. I’ll bury all the painful things I’ve been through.
I’ll forget that I fell in love with a vampire who only used me.
“Saera?” Idris asks, confused.
“I won’t stay long, Idris. Kaizer is letting me go. I’m going back to where I came from, I don’t belong in your world,” I tell him.
He just stares at me for a few seconds before giving me a small smile and gently caressing my cheek.
“Looks like there’s nothing I can do. I respect your decision, but how will you get back? Where is the mirror you came from?” he asks.
“The second prince of Wisteria will send it here.”
He snorts at my words, then holds out his hand to me.
“Let’s go back to our place. You can stay with us first, if you’d rather stay in a camp than in some fancy vampire palace.”
I nod quickly. I’m sure the vampires hate me now for running away from them.
I follow him as we walk, then I remember something. How can we get back to Aetherio fast when it takes three months to travel just to reach the Nalva islands?
“How will we get back to Aetherio quickly, Idris?” I ask him confused.
“We won’t stop in Aetherio, I have friends here in Nalva Avirife. We’ll stay here for now, you’re too weak. You need to rest, Saera.”
I’m not surprised when he turns into a wolf again.
He comes close so I can climb on his back right away.
Once I’m on, he starts running again but keeps his pace steady to take care of me. I manage a bitter smile as I stroke Idris’s thick fur. What if things were different? If I had met Idris first when I came to this world, could he be the one I love right now?
I shake my head, it’s impossible. The moment I stepped into this world, I was bound to Wisteria’s second prince. To the one and only Kaizer Alaric Lancaster, known by every vampire.
Idris doesn’t run for long, and we reach the wolves’ place. All of them are in human form, and when they see Idris and me, they gather in front of us like they’re alert to my presence.
First to step forward is a strong, handsome man covered in sweat, like he just finished hard work. I know he’s not far from Idris’s age.
“This is the first time you’ve brought a woman here, Idris. And what a surprise, a fanged woman.”
The wolves in human form all have yellow eyes when they confirm I’m a vampire.
“Hey, hey. Calm down, everyone, she’s with our future leader.”
I get off Idris’s back. He runs into a hut quickly, and when he comes out, he’s wearing pants he didn’t bother to button properly.
Damn.
“Got any explanation for this, Idris? You know our relationship with vampires isn’t good.”
The man glances at me. I can’t help hiding behind Idris. Did he really bring me here? They’re different from the wolves in Aetherio.
“She’s bitten. And I know you know that. She’s with me, go back to your work. She won’t hurt anyone.”
When Idris says this, the wolves who were staring at me start to move away and go back to what they were doing.
“Bitten or not, she’s still a vampire, Idris. An enemy of our kind,” the man insists.
“Soren, she needs rest. Find your mate, then you’ll understand what I’m doing.”
Idris pulls me along and we pass the wolf named Soren.
“Mate?! She’s your mate?!”
I want to say no, but Idris squeezes my hand to let me just go along with what he told his pack mate.
Idris takes me to the hut he came from. He quickly makes me sit on a chair and looks me in the eye.
“Are you thirsty? I can offer you my blood.”
I shake my head firmly.
“What about your friends? The vampires who took me said other allies attacked the Avirife palace. Why did you bring them along? So many people are getting hurt because of my bad decisions.”
Idris sits in front of me and tries to meet my eyes.
“They’re coming back. We didn’t go to the palace to help the Lancasters, we came here for you, Saera.”
If that’s true, the Lancasters might still be fighting in the palace right now. But what for? The prophecy’s woman they need is gone.
They should go back to Igor.
I don’t know which vampires to trust anymore. The princess, who’s a destined woman like me and only wanted to help? Or the Lancasters, whose real purpose for me I don’t know?
I look down when I think of my grandma. How is she doing? Is this what she was afraid would happen to me?
“Idris, you know my life was simple before? No fights like this, no lies like this. I was happy and content, I never felt jealous, I never got too angry, and I never cried like this. But when I came to this world, all my emotions came alive.”
He stays quiet and just stares at me, listening to whatever else I might say.
“If I fall in love in my world and get hurt, will I feel like this too? Will it hurt this much, Idris?”
I close my eyes at the questions I’m asking Idris.
“I don’t know, Saera…” he answers softly.
“I only came to this world to get hurt.”
I thought I had no more tears left, but they’re falling again. Part of me wants peace and to go back but another part wants to stay and find answers. How? I might get hurt again from what I learn.
I was about to speak more when a child runs over, out of breath and in a hurry.
“A vampire! There’s a vampire!”
