Chapter 13
1st October 2015: 10:05 am.
I followed him, confused by the trail of events. He couldn’t know already. I needed to find out from Zhang what was going on, but I just couldn’t let Ted out of my sight. I’d spent the last hour or so, just sitting in the chair watching him parade up and down in the pool. I knew that he thought I would jump in, but this body wasn’t going to get a tan for no one. Especially the man that I loved. Besides, it sounded as if he was talking about work or something?
“Ted talk to me. What’s going on?”
I tried to sound soft, like a child. The type of voice that he loved to hear. The one that he loved to control.
“Someone’s fucking with our data at work. I just need to get back and…”
“Fix it,” I purred as I wrapped my arms around him. He stopped walking and we both knew that he was no computer genius. The only thing he could do was scream and intimate people, which as the CEO was his right to do, but sometimes that didn’t work. When I’d been working with him in the office, I was the one that used to calm him down, get people on his side, but then after Emma found out about our affair, I’d had to leave. She was making his life hell, especially when he found out about the drugs.
“But I thought that you said you approved John’s request?” I still kept in the loop. I knew the ins and outs of that organization more than some of his employees and I hadn’t stepped foot in that office in nearly five years.
He nodded, “For 2017,” he shook his head while he pushed me slowly, breaking our embrace knowing that he had completely fucked up.
I couldn’t hold my anger any longer. Who waited for over one year for essential software?
“Robert and Frankston, Jones & Harvard, they’ve all been hacked and ransomed. I even read a report in Forbes about it. It was just a matter of time. John has been telling you for two years to sort this out. He said that he thought…”
I was running after him trying to figure out what was going on inside his tiny head. His pace increased as he hated listening to the truth.
“It’s not just your future that you’re damaging but…”
“Yours! Yes, yes we all know about the great Li Xiu Ying and all she has done to make MY company great again.”
My heart was racing out of control and my palms were sweating; he was going to make out that I was culpable for his selfishness. I just didn’t understand how he could be so stupid!
“How dare you. I slept with whoever you wanted me to, just to get an account. I’ve manipulated who I had to, even after you acted as if you had nothing to do with it. You had everything do with all I did for you. I did it to make you happy. Even after your mom beat me up with her purse, I begged you to take me back. You never did, until you found out that I was pregnant.”
He pointed at me. “You loved it and most of the time I thought you did it just to make yourself happy. To make it known that you could get whatever you wanted at any time.”
He was right, I did enjoy it. We needed to stop arguing in the middle of the hallway when guests started walking slower just to hear the gossip. It was none of their business, “Let’s talk about this in the room.” I nodded in the direction of the couple that were trying to listen to our conversation.
Ted was about to say something, but then he stopped. I used the key card and then as we walked into our room. The romantic room that was supposed to be our secret getaway so that we could reconnect.
No children.
No work.
No sneaking around.
And most of all no wife.
It was supposed to be us getting way to feel like a ‘couple’. A normal one. The way that other lovers did whenever they went away. That was all I wanted from our time together. And a reason to carry out with my plan without raising suspicions. Ted swiftly came behind me. His eyes were firmly on my ass, his favorite part of my body.
I envisioned that as soon as we entered the suite that he would grab and tell me that he was sorry for raising his voice. Sorry for doubting my love for him. But he did the opposite. As he shut the door after him, he mumbled, “Going into the shower. I need to think!”
It obviously wasn’t an invitation. I took a deep breath and I wanted to say something to him, anything to comfort him, and tell him that he didn’t need to go home. Away from me. Back home to her.
If only he had fucking done what John had been telling him to do for the last few weeks. When one of the competitors was hit, we’d known that it was on the cards, that there was no way from protecting his company. John had spent weeks preparing and doing presentations for Ted. John had come up with a solution. It was all good to go, I didn’t know that he’d delayed it for another two years. What was he fucking thinking?
Then again, he couldn’t have been thinking to put this on his ‘To do’ list. After all, he was a man. Unless, I told him that it shouldn’t be on his ‘To do’ list, it would remain there forever with no intention of ever being done.
I had dealt with enough to know how to get them to do the right thing. Or rather things my way. I had no degree. No fucking masters. Yet, I had more brain cells then the whole of the highly educated CTO, CFO and COO rubbed together. They only did things to make their lives easier. I needed to speak to Zhang and make sure that everything went according to plan.
I rushed to the side of the bed and grabbed my phone. One ring and he picked up.
“Did it work?” I asked.
He replied, “Yes,” then he hung up. I smiled at the idea that Ted had had two things happen to him, but most likely he would focus only on one, the one that would hurt him the most. The one that I had nothing to do with; I couldn’t harm his business. Not when I had invested my mind, body and soul into it.
I watched the sun from outside, grateful that I didn’t have to endure it once again. My plan was working, not that I should doubt it for a minute. I was too fucking intelligent for that, even without all the fancy certificates to verify it. I thought about when Emma had been on drugs. I didn’t think that she was capable of it. She was too straight-laced before I came and tore her world apart. At times I watched her from a distance and there was something different about her. One time I thought that maybe she had confidence. Then I laughed to myself at the idea of it. If she had that, then she would have left Ted a long time ago. She knew that marriage was dead. There was nothing holding them together, only money. I would make sure that she never got a penny of it and Ted knew it. If I had to fuck a mobster to get her out of the picture, I would do it in a heartbeat. I wanted Ted and I’d had enough of these fucking games. It was time that I fucking got what I’d deserved. It was my time, she’d fucked it up and she deserved nothing.
Nothing.
The money thing would be dealt with, one way or another. Ted had had his fingers burned and I was sure if it got out of control he would call his dad. He would sort it. No, the other problem we could solve together like a couple and that way we would finally get everything that we deserved.
Ted wanted me.
He just didn’t know how to go about it.
I had fixed that problem, and seeing as I was in such a good mood, I changed my mind for the first time in my life and decided that I might just for once go outside and get a tan.
