Chapter 12: April

I hated him.

No, not hated him.

Despised him.

It was six in the morning and I was due at the office in an hour, I hadn’t slept all weekend because Hayley had said her parents were back in town and they would be taking the kids every weekend. It seemed a little strange and part of me wondered if it had something to do with Luke. If she didn’t want me to babysit the kids anymore, but then I realized I was being paranoid. What grandparent wouldn’t want to spend time with their grandkids? It was only natural and I loved spending time with Wayne and Stuart. They were a handful, but as cute as hell and fun too.

I’d spent nearly my last dime buying sexy lingerie.

For nothing!

Luke had said I would be at his beck and call, he would have me in this apartment, and we would go on dates together. Maybe, I came on too strong in his office. I’d waited outside like a jilted bride for over an hour, but he didn’t come out. I thought maybe he was playing a game, so I left feeling confident he would visit me over the weekend.

He came, when I blew him, now he’d had his fun, he was bored already, and he didn’t want anything to do with me again. I wasn’t a blonde with sparkling eyes like the receptionist. The one he flirted with in the mornings, so I’d heard the gossip from the other girls in the office. I knew I’d turned heads a few times, which in a city full of potential supermodels or actual supermodels made me feel pretty damn good.

Luke had made me feel as if I was the worst lay in the world. I thought maybe my phone wasn’t working so I called Hayley, asked her to call me back and yes, it was. I felt like a girl who had given her number to some guy at the bar and was waiting for him to call her but Luke wasn’t just any guy, he was my boss.

I thought he wanted no strings attached, which suited me just fine. I didn’t come to L.A. to find love. So, why was I slipping out of the red suit I’d bought to impress him? It was by far a cheaper version I’d seen one of the execs wearing, but I’d noted the way he checked out her ass in it. I took a note to buy an outfit similar to it, but not with the same CK price tag.

I decided to get into some sexy lingerie something I had done on Saturday, but I took it off on Sunday morning and washed it and wore it again on Sunday evening. All the time, hoping he would show up and take me, but there was nothing at all. If anything, it made things even worse as it reminded me of what I was missing. Luke in between my legs. So, I took the negligee off and threw it across the room in a rage.

There was only one thing left to do. I would slip on the black bodice, with a black dress, get to the office early and be ready for him to take me. Maybe he had a thing about doing it only in the office and nowhere else and that was my mistake. I was the one who was supposed to take the initiative and I planned on having an early start on Monday. I’d get there by 6:45 and make sure I was ready which meant I had exactly fifteen minutes to get dressed and get out of here.

Luckily, the company apartment was near the office, I could get there on foot in ten minutes or grab a taxi. My funding was running short and although my contract was extremely generous, Luke had made it clear it was a short one. I had to get to work. I had to make him see how a relationship with each other didn’t need to be fake. We could be a thing if he was willing to give it a try which reminded me I hadn’t even tried to show him my presentation. Something I was so determined to do the first time I met him and it had slipped to the back of my mind every time I tried to talk to him.
