As soon as the words left Hugh's mouth, we all just sat there stunned and unable to react.
I don't get it. I don't get anything now.
Why would they make deals with serpents, our arch enemies? The specie that's been kidnapping and killing our kind ever since they existed.
Are they trying to betray and wipe out the whole werewolf race? But then again, why would they sell them broken weapons?
"Wouldn't the serpents know by now that the weapons aren't of any good?" I asked in confusion.
"They made it as such that they wouldn't fire twice. Only once and then it would jam." Freya answered.
"We're not really sure of the way yet." Hugh piped in. "But also, even if, the first bullet won't cause any severe damage to our kind."
"The bullets are of an iron interior and only the outside coat is silver. The silver percentage in a single bullet isn't enough to kill a werewolf." Freya finished.
I scratched the side of my head vigorously and groaned. This is giving me a headache.
Are they trying to trick the serpents then?
I was snapped out of my thoughts by the sound of a ringing phone.
Turning my head towards the source, I watched as Lucian fished for the mobile in his pocket before answering.
"What do you have for me?" He asked as soon as he picked up.
A couple of seconds passed by as the caller spoke to Lucian, but I guess what he said didn't settle well with Lucian.
"What?!" He yelled in both anger and surprise.
I quickly reached out for his hand which instantly calmed him down.
"Do whatever you can. Okay." He said before hanging up.
"What happened?" I asked, more curious than worried to know the answer.
Lucian sighed deeply ad ran a hand down his face before answering.
"The man that we've captured from the train station ran away."
Freya gasped while I scrunched up my face in irritation.
"Were you able to get anything out of him at least?" Hugh asked hopefully.
Lucian shook his head, his expression not the least bit pleased.
"The bastard wouldn't say a word." He growled as he glared at the carpet on the floor.
"I'm sure they helped him out. After all, they were able to reach the royal beta and kill him." I stated matter of factly.
"Yeah. I still have to talk to my father about that and investigate more at the palace. He was very angry about his 'missing' beta when I went to talk to him this morning. Wouldn't speak with anyone and was throwing a fit in his office."
Hugh and I shared a look.
It seems that the king doesn't know that his beta is dead. Just that he's missing.
A part of me suspected that the king was the one who did it and was doing this only for show, but the other half didn't want to jump to conclusions, keeping in mind that the king was none other than my mate's father. And I don't wanna hurt Lucian by hurting the king.
"Are you going to tell him?" I asked all of a sudden.
Lucian turned to look at me with a confused expression.
"That his beta is dead and how and where was he found?" I continued.
Lucian's eyes softened.
"You wouldn't want that." He replied. "Revealing the truth to my father means exposing your secret and I don't have the right to do that." He finished as tapped my nose lightly, a small smile grazing his lips.
I smiled at him in return.
"We'll just think of another way."
I nodded in agreement.
"April!" I winced as Uncle Adam's growl vibrated through my mind.
How was he able to reach me? I'm too far away. Shit! Was he that adamant on finding me?
"Yes Alpha." I replied instantly.
"Where the hell are you?!" He snarled.
"On my way." I answered before feeling the connection break. I'm too far away and it wouldn't matter how strong Uncle Adam tried, the connection was still weak.
I quickly scurried from my place and started collecting my things.
"April? What happened? Where are you going?" Lucian's worried voice sounded from beside me.
"Uncle Adam is searching for me. I have to get back." I answered quickly as I rushed out the cottage, ignoring the calls from behind me.
--
I reached the pack house in record time and quickly jumped through the small window to my room.
I pulled my only hoodie over my head and some baggy sweatpants to hide my Rose persona outfit since I don't have time to change.
I went to the bathroom and wet my hair as fast as possible before running to Uncle Adam's office.
I didn't get the chance to knock on the door as it was instantly opened by a very mad alpha.
He didn't waste time to grab a fist full of my hair and throw me across his office.
A low grunt escaped my lips as my body collided with the wall before falling to the floor.
"Where the hell have you been?" He bellowed angrily.
"I-in the b-bathroom." I fake stuttered.
I swear I could make a movie with all my acting.
A foot connected with my ribs, knocking the air out of my lungs.
"Don't lie to me!" Uncle Adam growled as he continued his assault on my torso.
I'm not going to lie and say that it didn't hurt because it did. But I've already mastered the art of hiding my pain and learned how to deal with his attacks on my body.
I occasionally let out a fake yelp or a whimper just so that he wouldn't get too suspicious. But a real weakness, that is something I'll never show.
After what felt like forever, his foot stopped kicking and his hands stopped punching.
He knelt down on one knee to my lying form and took a hold of my hair once again, raising my head up to face him.
"Now, where have you been again?" He asked like he didn't hear my answer the first time.
"B-bathroom." I wheezed out, my chest hurting with every breath I took.
A fist came in contact with my face and I heard a sickening crack.
"I didn't hear you." Uncle Adam sang as he adjusted my head back to face him.
I didn't answer and stood my ground. It's not like I was actually going to tell him where I really was.
His fist met my face again and I could already feel the metallic taste of my blood.
He growled loudly before throwing my head to the ground when I didn't speak a word.
"I don't have time for this shit." He muttered.
"Get up." He ordered as he aimed a final kick to my stomach.
I weakly got up from my foetal position, trying my hardest not to fall back.
A headache was already making its way to my head.
"We have visitors coming over, so this house better be swiped clean before six. And I want dinner to be ready when needed." He ordered.
I nodded my head before limping out.
I let out a shaky breath once I left the office and shut the door behind me.
I already started feeling my body heal and with my strong stamina and muscles, my wounds wouldn't take so long, only a couple of hours or so.
My only worry now was to heal completely before Hugh or Lucian gets to see me.
Lucian will have a heart attack and go on a killing spree no doubt.
I limped my way to the kitchen to fetch the cleaning supplies under the sink before starting my journey to clean this damned house.
It was insanely big and with my injuries, I was sure that it'll take much, much longer than I'd like it to.
After hours of nonstop cleaning, I was finally done and starting with dinner. My body fully healed and ready to go again.
I put the lasagne in the oven and went to wash some dishes when I felt spiders crawl under my skin and the hair on my neck stand to an end.
From the familiar scent, I knew exactly who stood behind me.
"Long time no see your highness." I spoke, still scrubbing a dish.
I heard him let out a small puff of air.
"Should've expected as much." He stated.
I finished washing the dish that I had in my hand before turning to our oh so beloved king.
He was leaning against the countertop with his arms across his chest and a smug look on his face.
"So what is it really? Should I call you Rose like everyone else or should we stick to the original?" He asked with a smirk.
I smirked back at him. What he's saying right now is leaving no doubt for me to think that he's not involved.
Oh, he's involved alright.
"But I'm curious though," He spoke again as he grabbed an apple. "...as to why you would involve yourself in bothersome matters." He started playing with the apple, throwing it in the air then fetching again. "Is little April trying to avenge her parents? Couldn't handle their death? Or is it that the angel in you can't sleep until you save the world?"
"Both scenarios will make god novels, don't you think? You should consider being an author." I suggested with a smirk, not giving him any answers.
He let out a small chuckle. "You're a very interesting person April."
"I'm afraid to take your words as a compliment. After all, you aren't the type to be trusted." I replied with my sweetest of smiles.
"Afraid?" He asked. "And here I thought big bad Rosie feared nothing." He scoffed with a shake of his head.
"I'm really sorry about what happened to your beta. Such an unfortunate incident." I said, ignoring what he said.
His smug look disappeared for a second before taking its rightful place on his face while I kept my sweet, innocent smile.
"Yes, unfortunate indeed. We wouldn't want that to happen again, now would we?" He replied suggestively.
"Yes. It'll be such a huge loss if something as terrible happened to our king." I retorted back calmly.
A low growl escaped his throat and I knew that his anger will show any second.
"I must say though," I spoke before he did. "...that you should take extra care of yourself. Maybe avoid walking in the dark alone." I turned to the fridge to get out some vegetables. "Just in case." I finished with a shrug as I stood back up and look at him.
All of a sudden, I was pushed against the fridge with a hand holding my throat tightly.
I stared down at the King's pitch-black eyes.
"Haven't you received my present?" He stated more than asked. "Cause the message I sent along was very important for you to keep in mind." He sneered lowly at me, careful not to let anyone hear.
I smirked at him. "Sorry, looks like I don't have enough space in my memory to store more bullshit." I replied before quickly grabbing his hand that was wrapped around my throat and raising my legs to kick him in the chest making him tumble backwards, setting my throat free.
"I don't like games Mr. Kristoff and I'm definitely not one to be threatened." I said as I approached him while he was still on the ground.
"You killed my parents and for that, you'll get nothing but hell." I growled lowly.
He growled in return before quickly standing to his feet and as he was about to charge at me, a voice halted both our actions.
"Your highness." Uncle Adam called from a distance.
In an instant, king Kristoff was leaning again against the counter with a fake calm expression while I started washing the vegetables like nothing happened.
Uncle Adam entered the kitchen and smiled widely when his eyes met king Kristoff's form.
"What are you doing here your highness? Do you need anything?" He asked as he approached.
"Uh...no really. I just wanted a glass of water and this young lady here helped me." The king replied as he pointed a finger at me followed by a very obvious fake smile.
Uncle Adam shot me a stern look before turning back to king Kristoff.
"Well, we've got the guest room ready for you if you want to rest."
"That would be great. Thank you, Adam." King Kristoff replied as he followed Uncle Adam out the kitchen.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
'Phew. That was close.' Rose sighed in my head.
'Yeah.'
'What do you think he'll do? He's now sure that were not backing down no matter what.' I heard her ask.
'He can do whatever he wants. I'll be ready with everything I've got.' I replied with determination.
