McKenzie

I didn't want to see him. Seeing him only made it harder for me. Yes I forgave him ,I just didn't want to think about it. They were engaged to be married When I saw jasmine. It made me understand that there wasn't a chance anymore. I thought I could fix it but it was too late.I got to Ardwell General at seven and went straight to the OR.it was a little boy. I always did my best for every single patient. I left the hospital at two and headed home.,

Grayson had left so , I felt relaxed ,I wouldn't see him or her anymore. I did my job then went home, Zara and Bryan would visit and we'd have a drink. One Monday morning ,I heard my doorbell and was surprised when I opened it. Daphne was standing there.

She grabbed onto me, hugging me.

“ It is good to see you da ” ,She said with her thick German accent mixing with her words.

“ Oh I missed you too ” ,

Daphne James was Bartholomew James's Daughter-in-law, I stayed with her my first few months in Germany.

“ Come let us have lunch. Where is Ms,what is her name again?”. She asked dragging me out.

“ Zara's at work. Wait Daphne let me get my bag”. I said ,she was a hyper individual, always on the go. She was a fashion designer. I chose one of the most reputed restaurants for lunch.

It was only after we were seated that I realized Darius and a few men were sitting behind us. I didn't acknowledge him. we Ordered and ate. She wanted to know everything I had been up to.

“ So Father said you were unsure when you left for this place if you would return?”. She said taking a bite of the chocolate cake. I didn't want Darius to hear anything so I spoke in her language.

“ I will be returning to Germany, Daphne. There is nothing here for me. Bryan will become a neurosurgeon and remain in Ardwell to take my place,I am not needed or wanted here ” ,I said looking at her.

She nodded.

“ And Ze man ?”.

“ Er ist weitergezogen. er ist verlobt. Ja, die gleiche Frau. Es besteht keine Chance, dass es klappt” I said looking at her

*translation(He has moved on. he is engaged. Yes, the same woman. There's no chance it will work)

“ Es tut mir leid, McKenzie. Dann warten wir auf Ihre Rückkehr.” , she said

*translation(I'm sorry, McKenzie. Then we wait for your return)

Staying in Ardwell will make it harder. After lunch we left, I took her back to her hotel because she had something to show me.

Darius

I was having a lunch meeting with some project officials when she walked in with another woman. I didn't care about anyone but her. I knew she saw me . When she said she was returning to Germany in a year my heart started beating too fast for comfort. She was leaving, I couldn't let her leave.

After she left they started talking.

“ Clarence wasn't that her?”.,

“ Yes ,she was in Germany while we were vacationing. The other woman is the daughter-in-law of Bartholomew. Michael tried to get to know her but the young doctor turned him down.

Now I understand why ?”. He said

I wanted to ask but it would be out of character for me.

“ Why do you mean , Clarence?”.

” Ahh did you not hear the Young doctor?”.

“We do not speak German, you imbecile?”.

“ Ahhh my apologies. The young doctor said he has moved on. He is engaged to be married if I am correct and it cannot work out . Something along those lines if my German is correct “. He said

“ Ahh so she returned to Ardwell because of her Love for a man ”.

“ It seems so. Mr Cirano pardon our gossiping, we're old men ” ,he said looking at me.

“ It is fine ” ,I said, my face hiding the tornado that was brewing inside me. Where did she get the idea that I had moved on, I am engaged to be married. Fuck this. I ended the lunch and left. I headed straight to the hospital. When I walked in I didn't have to know the anger was showing, the faces of the people around said it all.

I already knew where her office was. I wanted to just barge in .I stopped for a second. Fuck. My anger makes me do the craziest shit and she was bringing out the worst in me. I was about to knock when I saw her walking around the corner towards the door. She stopped for a second and continued walking, opening the door. I didn't wait for her to ask.I walked in.

“ Are you going back to Germany?”.

“ Yes Mr Cirano”.

“ when ?”.

“ At the end of the year Mr Cirano”.

“ Have you moved on ?”.

“ I…… w…we.. ” ,She was stuttering now

“ Answer the damn question McKenzie “.

“ No”.

I walked out slamming the door. I called Grayson and asked Him to meet me at the company. Shit I forgot to ask her who told her I was engaged. When I got to my office,I was out of sorts. Just hearing that she's leaving again made me feel like I was losing my damn mind.

When Grayson came and found me pacing in the office he knew it was bad. He just looked at me.

“ She's leaving Grayson. I can't….. I don't… I can't let her go again Grayson this time I know I'll never see her again ”. I said looking at him. He was my best friend, I shared everything with him and I guess in that moment it dawned on both of us that I loved her more than I thought I did. I always loved her and I never stopped.

“ Okay relax. Do you have someone watching her ?”.

” Yea Zach .Grayson, I don't know what to do,she thinks I moved on,she thinks I'm engaged and about to get married”.

“ What? , okay that means someone said something to her. We both know she's not going to lie. This is your One shot D,get everything out in the open tell her everything do you understand me ?. Here's what you're going to do”.

I listened as he said what to do.
