Chapter 106 Pears
Chapter 106 Pears
JESSICA
"We are lost?!"
He opened his mouth to speak.....
My jaw dropped as I placed my hands on my forehead, turning away.
"Oh my God. No no this can't be happening."
"Can you relax?"
I turned to him. "What?!"
He raised his hands and widened his eyes.
"Whoa,"
"Did you just ask me to relax?"
"Yes. I think you are overreacting," he said nonchalantly.
I scoffed.
Is he insane?!
"We are in the middle of an unknown forest. Lost! And you said I am overreacting?!"
He nodded.
I huffed, turning away and rubbing my arms as I felt my anxiety picking up. I moved my eyes around, taking in the numerous trees and plants.
No single building.
No people.
Not a person!
Oh God.
Oh God oh God oh God!
This is not what I thought would ever happen to me. This can't be happening to me!
I turned to him.
He is staring at me.
"Please tell me you are messing with me,"
He raised his brows.
"Say it!"
He scoffed. "Say what?"
My shoulders fell.
God, he is serious. He is really serious!
"But you said you knew the way back to the resort." I almost cried as I rubbed my arm.
"I know I did. I thought I knew but the few minutes' walk got me confused."
I huffed helplessly, looking around.
"I wish I could tell you I am lying, fireball."
I looked at him.
"But it is the truth," he said, staring at me weirdly.
Like he is not bothered about the fact that we are lost.
He is lying.
"Firstly, stop calling me fireball."
He hummed.
"Secondly, I have a feeling you are lying to me right now," I said, walking closer to him and folding my hands.
He stared down at me.
"Stop playing around and lead the way to the resort," I ordered, staring at him with all seriousness.
He gave me a one-sided smirk, making me furrow my brows.
What the....
"That's the cutest order I have ever heard,"
"Excuse me?"
"Let's just keep going," he said, walking ahead.
I scoffed in disbelief as he walked.
"We are going to be...."
I didn't let him finish but quickly moved in front of him and blocked his way.
"Geez....."
"What are you up to huh?"
He raised his brows and pointed his finger at his chest.
"Me?"
"Like is it your desire to be stuck in this forest or are you just doing all this on purpose?"
He huffed and shrugged. "Neither."
I opened my mouth to speak but....
"Relax and trust me, girl. I will do all I can to get us back safely," he said, walking past me.
God, this is serious.
He is really serious.
I stood there, staring at nowhere in particular as I rubbed my arm.
We are really lost.
"You coming?" he asked, making me close my eyes and heave a sigh.
I turned and began following him.
"What are we going to do?" I asked.
"I am thinking," he said without looking at me as he walked ahead.
"Where are we even going?"
"Find our way back obviously," he said, heaving a sigh.
"Call my dad or uncle Brad. They will be able to help us."
"No signal, Jessica. Remember?"
I huffed, frustrated to the core.
"Let's just keep going. We won't get to the resort by just waiting around you know," he said.
I lowered my gaze as I walked, feeling the need to cry!
God this is so not happening to me right now.
Mom will be very worried about me.
She must be looking for me right now.
And I hate it when I make her worry.
I thought the paraglider team had a rescue department or something. They are supposed to be here searching for me, right?
Didn't anybody notice there was something wrong about my paraglider?
Catherine literally made me not tell them it is my first time. She said it will be more fun doing it alone.
I shouldn't have listened to her.
Now look at me!
Ugh!
TWO HOURS LATER.......
"Let's rest here," Uncle said, making me move towards a rock close by and sit on it. I rubbed the back of my neck, feeling exhausted from walking.
We are still in the forest!
No sign of people or the resort!
Not even a signal.
This is so unfair.
And these bugs keep biting me.
I leaned down and scratched the spot where I got bitten by a mosquito. Staring at my legs, I felt like crying cause they looked attacked and red.
I am definitely going to fall sick.
"Hungry?" Uncle asked, making me look at him.
He is standing a few steps away from me and pointing up.
I followed his pointed finger and I saw some pears on the tree.
I swallowed, feeling my taste buds jumping already.
"You like pears right?" he asked, making me look at him. He is smiling at me.
My heart picked up.
"No, I am not hungry," I said, looking away.
But my belly betrayed me instantly, groaning loudly.
My cheeks heated up as I held my belly without looking at him.
Uncle chuckled. "I will get us some,"
I pursed my lips as I sensed him making a move around the tree.
Closing my eyes, I heaved a sigh feeling bitten again.
Oh God!
Not long later, he extended two pears to me, making me look at him.
He is biting into his pear and chewing it already.
I looked at the pears in his hands and took them from him.
"They are more delicious than I expected," he said, walking away from me as I stared at the pears.
They need to be washed before I take them.
But no water anywhere.
Forests are meant to have lakes or streams somewhere right?
I can't even hear any.
This is awful.
I want out of this situation!
"Are you going to eat up or stare at them all day?" Uncle asked, making me look at him.
He is leaning on the tree, staring at me while biting his pear.
Averting my eyes from him, I shifted slightly.
"I....I don't eat unwashed fruits."
He scoffed, making me throw him a frown.
"I'm sorry what?"
"It is bad for the health. You shouldn't be eating them without washing them."
"Listen, Fireball, we are....."
"Stop calling me that!"
He heaved a tired sigh. "We are in a fucking forest right now. And there is no fucking water anywhere. We are hungry. It's not like we have any fucking choice, do we?"
I averted my eyes from him and lowered them. "Can't make a proper sentence without cussing?"
"What was that?"
"Nothing," I said without looking at him.
"Just stop being a kid and eat the damn fruit."
I threw him a scowl as I felt anger picking up.
His face twitched.
Clenching my jaw, I placed the pears on the space next to me before getting on my feet and taking steps towards him.
"Don't you ever call me a kid,"
"I didn't mean....."
"You meant it!" I snapped, shutting him up. "Just like always. You never cease to make me feel less than I am."
He stared at me.
"How many times have you called me annoying, huh?"
No response.
"How many times have you called me an annoying kid?"
Still no response.
"You can't even stand me. You look at me with irritation every single time you see me. You don't even know or care if I exist." Hiii
His green eyes blinked softly.
"You don't like being around me. You and my dad hate me for no reason. I have done nothing wrong to either of you!" I yelled, feeling tears approaching.
The jerk is still silent and staring at me.
"But it is okay. I have been living very fine with that. I have people who know and care that I exist. People who love me. I have my mom, my brother, uncle Brad, and Alex. I don't need anyone else. I don't need you or my dad. They are more than enough for me." I turned to leave but....
"Jessica," he called, grabbing my hand.
"Let go of me," I snatched my hand from him, scowling at him.
His eyes rested on me softly.
Filled with remorse.
I am not buying that.
It is nothing but fake.
He is a total jerk.
"I believe you heard what I said earlier. Don't call me a kid again cause I am not one!" I turned. walking away and past where I sat.
"Jessica,"
I didn't respond but kept walking ahead in a direction I had no idea of as tears rolled down my face.
"Jessica!"
"Leave me alone!" I yelled, still walking ahead.
"Where the hell are you going?" I heard him ask but I kept walking. I wiped my rolling tears, taking fast strides ahead.
"Stop,"
I kept walking.
"Jessica!"
Still walking.
"Hey!" he grabbed my arm, adding to my anger as he pulled me to face him.
His face twitched as he stared at my tear-filled face.
"Let go," I said, struggling to get out of his annoying hold.
But he held both of my arms tighter.
"I said let me go!"
"No!" he snapped, catching me off guard. "Stop this and calm down."
I struggled regardless.
He held me still.
"What is your problem?! Let go of me!"
"We need to stay together. We don't know what is in these woods. It is dangerous for you to be walking alone." he said worriedly.
With all my strength, I released myself from his hold.
"Like you care!"
He heaved a sigh. "Listen Jessica, I...."
"No you listen!" I snapped, pointing at him and making him stare at me. "Don't you ever hold me like that again."
He opened his mouth to speak....
"Stop faking the care cause you and know you clearly don't care about me!"
He stared at me.
I glared, breathing heavily.
"God! I would give anything to be out of this situation with you! You are nothing but a heartless jerk!"
"I heard you," he chipped in. "Okay?"
I glared at him.
"Your feelings are valid. I haven't been a good uncle to you and you are right."
I scoffed, looking away.
"But right now, our current situation requires that we stay together and figure out how to get back to the resort."
I looked at him.
"You can hate me all you want. I deserve it. But stop walking away like this is some kind of typical area. It is a fucking forest, okay?"
I scoffed again, folding my arms as I looked away.
"We are sticking together."
I turned, taking steps away.
"The fuck did I just say!"
