Chapter 8
Phillipe's face was all serious, his good looks giving off this vibe like he was trying to figure something out but didn't really care.
Aurora couldn't help but throw in a snarky comment, "Even if the girl didn't mess up the blood vessels and heart tissue, Mr. Ryan Bourbon's had a bunch of surgeries before. The area around the heart valve, the mitral valve annulus, is pretty much shot, making it tough for an artificial valve to stick."
This was one of the reasons they were hesitant to go ahead with the surgery.
"Aurora!" Zachary scolded quietly, clearly annoyed.
Aurora stood her ground, "I just want everyone to know that Mr. Ryan Bourbon has a serious heart infection, and the tissue swelling is really bad. Suturing an artificial valve is super tricky. If the girl's suturing isn't perfect, Mr. Ryan Bourbon's heart function probably won't get better, and there's a high chance of major complications."
Zachary knew Aurora was trying to stir things up, so he quickly turned to Phillipe, "Mr. Bourbon, this young lady's medical skills are top-notch. I believe she can handle this, especially with Dr. Smith helping her. Dr. Smith comes from a family of doctors, is incredibly talented, and his grandfather is Daniel Smith, a famous physician."
Phillipe's eyes showed he got it; the male assistant in front of him was Randy, Daniel's only beloved grandson.
Daniel was also one of the renowned doctors he had invited, but he was stuck in traffic and hadn't arrived yet.
Seeing Phillipe's blank expression and no reaction, Zachary felt super nervous and unsure of what he was thinking.
Then, Abella's amazing suturing skills made all the doctors there feel like amateurs.
After the surgery, everyone was totally blown away.
Ryan actually made it.
"Abella, are you even human?" Randy, who had watched the whole surgery, was the most shocked. This girl was way more impressive than he ever thought!
He had been ready to jump in at any moment, but now it seemed he had overestimated himself!
Abella's medical skills were way beyond Randy's, and she didn't need him to worry at all!
"Take the patient out." Abella washed her hands and walked out of the operating room. Many doctors waiting outside clapped for her, praising her skills.
Aurora saw this and couldn't help but clench her fists, her nails digging into her palms.
She hadn't expected this girl to be so impressive.
When Ryan was wheeled out of the operating room, many doctors stepped forward to confirm that he was indeed still breathing and seemed to be in stable condition.
"Everyone, clear out. Mr. Ryan Bourbon needs to rest now." Randy knew Abella was tired. They had been in surgery for two hours, and it was already 2 PM. He wondered if Abella was hungry.
Many of the doctors who had gathered to watch left, leaving only Phillipe and the heart specialists, along with Zachary and a few others.
"I'll take Mr. Ryan Bourbon back to his room first," Randy said to Abella, "I'll be back soon."
Abella nodded, took off her mask, revealing a delicate and charming face. Her casual yet captivating demeanor made her look enchanting.
"Who's the family member?" Abella asked, still a bit cautious.
The leading man stepped forward, towering over her. His 6'3" frame made the 5'3" girl look even smaller, but somehow, they fit together perfectly.
Abella looked up at the guy in front of her, his features so perfect it was like God himself had sculpted him. His eyes were mesmerizing, clear as polished lacquer.
"Mr. Bourbon, Mr. Ryan Bourbon was in critical condition, and I boldly promised this young lady that if she could save him, any reward would be no problem," Zachary quickly chimed in, trying to help Abella get her due.
Phillipe glanced at the young lady in front of him, his eyes showing a flicker of interest, then looked over at Gabriel.
Gabriel immediately pulled out a blank check and handed it over. "Thank you for saving Mr. Ryan Bourbon! This is a token of Mr. Bourbon's appreciation; you can fill in the amount as you wish."
Abella's clear blue eyes widened in surprise. Who was this Phillipe Bourbon to be so generous?
The people around them looked at her with a mix of surprise and envy.
Getting a blank check not only meant money but, more importantly, it meant gaining Phillipe's approval, which could open up a lot of doors in the future. Abella was definitely lucky, with a bright future ahead.
"Then I'll accept it," Abella said with a slight smile, slipping the check into her white coat pocket without any hesitation, making her seem straightforward.
"Mr. Ryan Bourbon will be able to get off the ventilator by tomorrow." As soon as Abella finished speaking, a cold laugh echoed from the corner, coming from Aurora.
Aurora's laugh caught Abella's attention, and she raised an eyebrow, her tone casual, "Time to fulfill your promise, Ms. Robinson."
Aurora, caught up in envy, had forgotten their bet!
With Phillipe present, Aurora would never let herself be embarrassed! Never!
She shamelessly spread her hands, "What promise? What did I say?"
"Ms. Robinson, how can you do this?" a young nurse couldn't help but speak up, "You just said that if this young lady could save Mr. Ryan Bourbon, you would follow any of her orders, even giving up your position as an associate chief physician."
"Did I say that?" Aurora refused to admit it, "Do you have the evidence?"
When someone was shameless, there was no way to hold them accountable. Another doctor couldn't stand it, "You did say that. Everyone here heard it. If you don't want to kneel, at least apologize to the girl."
After all, Aurora had spoken so harshly to Abella earlier.
"Why should I apologize?" Aurora shamelessly continued, showing a defiant expression.
There was no saving her.
Just when everyone was at a loss.
Abella swiftly kicked, and Aurora knelt on the spot.
No one saw how Abella did it, they only heard the sound of knees hitting the ground.
Aurora's lips trembled with pain as she was unable to stand up.
"As a doctor, saving lives is your duty." Abella's eyes glimmered with cold light, her voice carrying a hint of chill, "The scalpel in your hand is for saving lives, not for taking them!"
Aurora trembled with anger, "Don't think you can slander me in front of Mr. Phillipe Bourbon. I didn't do anything!"
"Whether you did or not, everyone knows!" Abella sneered.
At this moment, the hospital director Herbert Clark arrived, "Mr. Phillipe Bourbon, is Mr. Ryan Bourbon alright? I'm sorry, I just returned from an academic exchange. What's going on here? Aurora, why are you kneeling on the ground?"
