Chapter 109: Chapter 109 Rebecca Saw Micah

Rebecca’s POV

We arrived at the Supreme Court of the city of Mandena. We had been duly informed that Micah’s hearing at the court was today, and hence, his fate would be sealed before the day was over.

The weight of the moment settled heavily upon my shoulders, but I embraced it with unwavering determination. This was the day justice would be served.

In light of this, we had hired a prosecutor who would prosecute Micah for his crime—David Cooper.

One of the best attorneys in the whole of Manderin, talk less of Mandena. His reputation preceded him, a man feared by many in the legal profession, admired by even more.

I had personally paid to hire him. A whopping sum of 400 grand. Just to put Micah in his place and make him understand that there are consequences for every action and inaction.

To attempt a rpe was a crime against humanity, and definitely, he must learn to put his dick in his trousers from now on.

The moment we arrived at the court, I saw him darting a fearful look at us.

His panic was evident. I could see it in the way his hands fidgeted, his lips slightly parted, his gaze shifting as though searching for an escape route. But there was none.

He saw Natasha, Evelyn, and Mirabel come out from different cars in my escort, and I sensed how his heart dropped like a fetch into the deepest well.

I pretended like I didn’t see him. Not that I was shy of him. Being shy of a rpist like him was not in my dictionary. But I acted like that just so he knew I was indifferent about him. If he thought his presence would intimidate me, he was grossly mistaken.

We proceeded into entering the court before Attorney David crossed our path. He was putting on a sleek fitted suit and carried a briefcase in his hands.

“Madam Rebecca,” he called me, his deep voice calm yet authoritative.

I nodded in response, stepping forward slightly.

“I would like to see all of you before the court begins,” he noted, his gaze shifting to Natasha, Evelyn, and Mirabel.

Without hesitation, we all followed behind him as he led us to a particular office within the court. The air inside was cool, the scent of paper and polished wood filling the space. He sat down behind an office desk and gestured politely for us to sit as well.

“I want to know more from the victim herself. Tell me exactly how it happened and how he was caught,” Attorney David said, looking right at Mirabel, Evelyn, and Natasha. His sharp eyes held a kind of assurance, an unspoken promise that he would fight for the truth.

Mirabel narrated her own account without leaving anything behind. Her voice trembled at some points, but she remained strong, determined to see this through. In the same manner, Natasha also narrated her own account, and Evelyn did the same thing.

In the accounts of each of them was a high level of similarity. Nodding, Attorney David leaned back slightly in his chair.

“Okay, fine. I assure you, he won’t escape justice!” his voice held a firm conviction.

I nodded at Attorney David. I had no reason to doubt his words.

He was a qualified lawyer with over five thousand won cases and zero losses. His name was a song in the mouth of every other attorney in the whole of Manderin.

A beast lawyer, they always referred to him as. And since most lawyers were scared of arguing a case when he was either the prosecutor or a defending lawyer, he started becoming anonymous until the court session started, where he’d suddenly appear in the court.

This was his strategy, a move that left the opposition rattled and unprepared.

In this way, no one, not even the judge, knew he was the one prosecuting Micah. At the moment the court would start, that was when he would reveal himself.

“The hearing starts in ten minutes. Everyone should gather in the courtroom now,” announced the court clerk.

With this, “See you soon, Madam Rebecca,” Attorney David said, standing up with finality. Hence, we all walked out of the room and headed right into the courtroom.

The courtroom was already filled with people. A mixture of reporters, legal professionals, and curious onlookers. Murmurs filled the air, hushed whispers of speculation and curiosity.

Mirabel, Natasha, Evelyn, and I walked right in and got our seats at the back row in the court.

Right in the court, we saw the bailiff beat the gavel on the hammer.

“Court!” he rose up to his feet and called in a louder voice.

With this, we knew the judge was coming, so each of us in the courtroom rose to our feet.

The judge walked into the courtroom and went up to his high seat in the court. After he sat, we all proceeded to sit according to the rules of the court.

At this moment, the defending lawyer rose to her feet and approached the bench.

“May it please the court, my name is Deborah Blackwood, counsel for the defense. I will be representing Mr. Micah in this matter.”

Right at this moment, the court officers brought in Micah. His hands were cuffed. His wrists were cuffed. He gazed at the presence in the court the moment he was brought in. And at this instance, when he saw my face, he quickly darted his face away.

As he darted his eyes away, he was pulled into a dock with security barriers around him.

Just then, “The prosecutor may now approach the bench,” the judge, Hilar Bush, spoke.

We saw how Attorney Deborah looked around, noting there was no lawyer beside her. A sudden smirk tugged at the side of her cheeks immediately.

If there was no prosecuting lawyer, she knew what that meant. Her client would be freed, and she could add to the number of her won cases.

However, and suddenly, a footstep reverberated in the hall as the courtroom door pushed open.

There, Attorney Deborah opened her eyes widely at the sight of Attorney David.

“David… Co…oper?!” she muttered loudly in shock.

Everyone in the court’s eyes opened widely. None had expected to see Attorney David being the one to prosecute Micah.

“David Cooper?” one muttered.

“How is this possible?!” another whispered. But all of which I heard.

A smirk played on my lips. If Micah knew the depth of how much trouble he was in, perhaps he wouldn’t be looking so dazed in the dock. He would have placed his hands on his head and yelled his concern because certainly, he would be going to jail for a long time!

“Good morning, Your Honor. My name is David Cooper, representing the State/Commonwealth/Rebecca Harrington/Prosecution in this matter. We are ready to proceed,” he said, and the tension in the room increased.
