Chapter 23 Wythe’s angry.

Lydia felt remorseful and guilty as she reached up to rub her still–drowsy temples, cautiously placing the phone against her ear.

“Wythe~”

“Madam! Do you remember you have a son?” The usually tender voice sounded unexpectedly cold today. Lydia could almost picture her son’s small face looking serious and indifferent. (1)

Her heart sank. Oh no! This time, Wythe was truly angry!

“Sweetheart, let me explain. It’s like this—after the press conference yesterday, I wasn’t feeling well.

Then, I met a friend, and…”

“And you just went home with your friend? Without even a call or text to me!” Despite the calm tone on the other end of the line, the accusation was clear, making Lydia realize she was in trouble.

“I’m sorry, honey. Mom neglected you. How did you get home yesterday? Did you have dinner?”

“Now it’s morning, and you’re only concerned about whether I had dinner? Isn’t it a bit late for that?” The little guy was quite proud.

“I’m sorry, really sorry. Mom knows she was wrong. I really forgot yesterday!”

“Forget even to call your son. Mom, I wonder if you remember anything at all?”

“I…”

“I don’t want to talk to you right now! That’s it!”

Hearing her son’s accusation, Lydia looked crestfallen. She wasn’t being a responsible mother.

All the ambiguous feelings from before vanished in an instant. She felt agitated, running her fingers through her hair, furrowing her brows. She felt guilty, realizing she hadn’t given Wythe a complete family and had neglected him for her own matters.

Thinking about it, Lydia also felt inexplicably wronged, both for herself and for Wythe.

They relied on each other, and these years had been quite hard.

When Lambert emerged from the bathroom once again, he saw Lydia sitting on the edge of the bed, tears streaming down her face. He sighed inwardly, walked over to her, and enveloped her shoulders in his

arms.

“Don’t cry. If you keep crying, your eyes will swell.”

Feeling helpless, Lydia clung to his arm, choked up. “What should I do? Wythe must be mad at me this

time. I forgot to inform him yesterday. I’m so indifferent to him, it’s all my fault.”

Lambert couldn’t help but smile wryly. Inform?

He gently wiped away her tears, full of pity. “Alright, alright. It was a special circumstance yesterday. You weren’t feeling well after the emotional press conference and fell asleep. I didn’t have the heart to wake you up. So, it’s also my fault.”

“No, it’s not, Lambert. You don’t understand. Wythe has always been so well–behaved and sensible since

he was little. He has never said anything as hurtful to me as he did today. What should I do?”

Seeing this confused woman in front of him, Lambert mentally scolded the child who called. Interrupting

their moment and making his woman cry like this, he deserved a good beating.

Filled with dissatisfaction towards that child, Lambert loved Lydia all the more. After meeting Lydia, Lambert had promptly investigated her background.

He knew she was a renowned fashion designer in Paris, a single mother with a smart and adorable son.

According to his investigation, the child’s intelligence level was definitely on par with that of a genius. 1

She had concealed her privacy well, protecting her son without a single leak. But with his abilities, that

was no problem.

The only thing he hadn’t found out was her past, her family background.

There was no way around it; she had completely cut ties with her past. She had risen to fame in the

Parisian fashion world under the name Amélie, beautiful and mysterious.

At first, he was somewhat resentful that she had a child out of wedlock, jealous that she had once

belonged to someone else, had once laughed sweetly in someone else’s arms.

But when he saw her tears of sadness, all his resentment vanished. All he wanted was to protect her, to see her smile happily.

He hadn’t come to terms with the child’s existence, nor had he thought about how to deal with such a clever child. But he believed it wouldn’t be a problem.

“Lydia, don’t be sad anymore. Yesterday was just an accident. How about this, I’ll take you back and help you explain things to your son, okay?”

Lambert rarely used a hundred percent of his patience to coax his beloved woman.

At this moment, Lydia finally realized, belatedly, that Lambert remained remarkably calm about the fact that she already had a child.

Normally, wouldn’t people get especially angry about that?

Lydia hesitated for a moment. “Sir, do you know about Wythe?”

Lambert paused, his black eyes deepening, as he reached out and lifted Lydia’s chin. “Sir?”

“But we’ve only just met… No, that’s not the point. The point is, how did you know about my son…” Lydia felt a bit confused herself, unable to express her thoughts clearly.

She blinked, unsure of how to proceed. She couldn’t explain Wythe’s existence when she was still so confused about it herself.

Lambert sighed. “I’ve made it quite obvious, and yet you’re still oblivious. It seems like we really need to have a proper conversation. As for your son’s matter, can we talk about it on the way? Right now, you need to freshen up and change.”

Lowering her head, Lydia noticed her disheveled clothes. Because of their earlier intimacy, there were some stains, possibly saliva, which looked quite ambiguous.

Her face turned hot with embarrassment, hastily clutching her clothes to cover her chest and hurriedly

went to the bathroom.

On the bathroom’s clothes rack hung a neatly arranged set of women’s clothing, even including underwear. Lydia felt even more embarrassed, wishing she could find a hole to hide in.

But thinking about her little one at home, she couldn’t dwell on it too much. She quickly took a shower and changed into the clothes provided.

Surprisingly, they fit perfectly, making her feel both sour and bitter.
