Chapter 13

The air in the classroom felt heavy, charged with an unusual tension. Lisa's absence was conspicuous, her empty chair a stark reminder of her unexplained absence. Samantha's worried gaze met mine, silently conveying her concern. When the class ended, Samantha leaned in close.

"Have you felt any shadows around Lisa, she looks pale and really sick. I am worried" Samantha whispered urgently.

I closed my eyes, focusing on my senses. "No, I don't sense anything unusual around her."

Samantha's relief was palpable, but her concern for Lisa didn't waver. She made her way to Nick, who was leaning against a locker. Their hushed conversation caught my attention, and I watched as Samantha gestured towards Lisa's empty chair.

Nick's brow furrowed in response, and he nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. Samantha approached me with a look of determination.

"I asked Nick to check on Lisa," she explained. "Something's not right, and she won't open up to anyone except him."

Nick came back to us but he was worried. Lisa had brushed him off saying she had a bad cold but he knew that was a lie. He could sense something was freaking her out. "I don't why she is lying, she looks as if she has literally seen a ghost" he explained

As the literature lesson began, the tension in the room remained. I struggled to focus on the lesson, my thoughts consumed by Lisa's strange behavior. Suddenly, the silence was shattered as Lisa jumped out of her chair, her eyes wide with terror.

"Leave me alone, leave me alone!" she cried, bolting out of the classroom.

Samantha and I exchanged a glance, our unspoken agreement propelling us to follow Lisa's frantic path. We found her in the girls' restroom, her sobs echoing against the tiled walls.

"Lisa, it's us," Samantha's voice was gentle, coaxing her to open up.

Lisa's voice trembled as she spoke between sobs. "I'm seeing my uncle's spirit... he's been haunting me since last night. He passed away last night but I can still see him"

My heart sank, the implications of her words sending shivers down my spine. Samantha and I exchanged a knowing look as Lisa continued.

"I'm not crazy, I promise," Lisa insisted, wiping away her tears. "His spirit... it's trapped. There are shadows after him, they want his soul."

The realization hit me like a lightning bolt. Lisa had the ability to see and interact with souls, just as I could sense the shadows of death. She was a bridge between the living and the departed, a connection that could provide answers or open the door to even greater mysteries.

Samantha's voice was gentle, filled with empathy. "Lisa, you're not alone. We're here to help you, to understand what's happening."

With trembling hands, Lisa wiped away her tears, her eyes a mix of fear and determination. She took a deep breath, finding a semblance of calm amidst the storm within her.

"His voice... he needs help," Lisa admitted, her gaze focused beyond us, as if searching for something only she could perceive.

The sun had begun its descent as the school day came to an end, casting a warm golden glow across the horizon. Samantha's invitation lingered in my mind as I made my way to her house along with Lisa and Brandon. We stepped into Samantha's home, greeted by the sight of a vast library, shelves adorned with ancient books and history texts that held stories of times long past. Nick was already there sitting on a huge desk, he gave me a smile that I returned.

Samantha led us into the heart of the library, a room that seemed to hold secrets within its walls. Lisa's apprehensive gaze swept over the shelves, her unease palpable. Samantha and I exchanged a glance, understanding the weight of the situation. As we settled into comfortable seats, Samantha began.

"So guys, there's something important we need to discuss," Samantha began, her voice steady and earnest. "Lisa, you're not alone in this. We will figure this out together as a team."

Lisa looked at Samantha, her eyes a mix of hope and uncertainty. "But what if I'm going crazy? What if this is all in my head?"

Nick leaned forward, his expression kind and reassuring. "Lisa, what you have is a rare and special gift. It's called being a spirit medium. I have been researching about this just now and it all makes sense"

Lisa's brow furrowed, a mixture of confusion and curiosity in her eyes. "Spirit medium? What does that even mean?"

Nick began to explain to all of us what he had found out. "A spirit medium is someone who has the ability to communicate with spirits or souls from the other side, the realm beyond our physical world. They act as a bridge, allowing those who have passed away to convey messages to the living."

As Nick spoke, his words painted a vivid picture of a world beyond our senses, where connections between the living and the departed transcended the barriers of life and death. He continued, delving deeper into the history of spirit mediums.

"Throughout history, spirit mediums have played crucial roles in connecting people with their departed loved ones. They've been revered as guides, healers, and even sources of wisdom from the beyond. In some cultures, they were consulted to gain insights, find closure, and seek guidance."

Samantha's eyes gleamed with curiosity as she leaned in, her interest piqued. "So, spirits can actually communicate with mediums?"

Nick nodded, his gaze steady. "Yes, exactly. Spirits can convey messages through mediums, often providing comfort, guidance, or even closure. It's a unique ability, one that's both mysterious and awe-inspiring."

Lisa's expression shifted from uncertainty to a mixture of wonder and trepidation. "But... what if I can't handle it? What if I can't control it?"

Samantha's eyes met Lisa's, a silent promise passing between them. "We're a team, Lisa. We'll figure this out together."

As Lisa absorbed the information, a mixture of emotions played across her features. Uncertainty gave way to a newfound sense of purpose, a realization that her unique ability could become a force for good, a way to bring solace to those in need.

Brandon cleared his throat "so what does your uncle need and are we going to help him or not" he said interrupting our conversation.

"thats a good question" Samantha said looking at all of us
