Chapter 9
"Ha-ha, you don't understand, Lajoi, you will never understand what love is, love is more precious than life! I've already sold your shares to Group B, and the money is enough for Rylee and me to live on for the rest of our lives."
His eyes, bloodshot, were filled with longing.
I sighed. With Wyatt here, and his plan to exchange me for Rylee, my cousin and I would be safe for now.
"I may never understand."
I replied and fell silent. By now, my cousin had woken up, her mouth sealed with duct tape, unable to speak despite her attempts.
Wyatt's phone rang, and he deliberately answered on speaker.
"Wyatt, we've brought Rylee over. She's on the street. What about Lajoi?"
On the other end was the voice of the police chief.
"Let Rylee come in herself. If I see any tricks, I'll kill Lajoi first!"
Wyatt roared, madness clear in his tone. Upon hearing this, I just stared at him coldly.
The police chief agreed, and a few minutes later, Rylee walked in.
"Wyatt!" Rylee sobbed.
Upon entering, they embraced each other, Wyatt consoling her continuously.
After a while, they separated.
"Lajoi, for Wyatt's sake, I'll let you go today, but I won't let you walk out unscathed!"
Rylee, her eyes swollen, glared at me, her gaze turning malevolent.
She grabbed a wooden stick and smashed it hard against my arm.
"Ah-!"
I screamed in pain, while Rylee laughed uncontrollably, as if my agony was her joy.
"Snap!"
After breaking my arm, she wasn't satisfied and slapped me hard across the face.
"Rylee, let's go!"
Quickly, they left and sped away in a car that had been prepared earlier.
Half an hour later, the police stormed in. My arm was swollen like a loaf of bread, and my left cheek was grotesquely swollen. They rushed me to the hospital.
Fortunately, the bones were reset. Lying in the hospital room, I stared at the ceiling, wondering if Wyatt and Rylee would be caught.
Creak-
The door opened, and my sister walked in, handing me a plate of washed fruit.
"What are you thinking about?"
After the rescue, the police provided us both with protection, ensuring our complete safety.
I shook my head, not responding.
Time passed quickly, and two days later, I represented the company in buying back the shares from Group B at a high price. I also announced that I would take a break to recover, leaving the company's affairs to another shareholder.
At home, reading the news, a sudden knock at the door startled me. I got up to check, and a man dressed in black with a cap stood at the door.
"Who are you?"
Seeing his attire, I tensed immediately.
"It's me!"
Wyatt's voice!
However, the next moment, five plainclothes policemen with guns drawn subdued him.
"Lajoi! Give me a chance! Give me a chance! I no longer believe in love!"
Removing his mask and cap, Wyatt, tears streaming down his face and complexion red, yelled at me.
I frowned slightly, sensing something was amiss.
Wyatt was taken back to the police station, and I followed, as my home was no longer safe, especially if Rylee decided to return.
Soon, my suspicions were confirmed.
"Lajoi! I was wrong! I trusted the wrong person!"
In the interrogation room, Wyatt cried heartbreakingly.
