Emily sank into the warm, lavender-scented bathwater, letting out a contented sigh as the heat seeped into her muscles. She reached for her phone, careful not to let it slip into the tub.
Emily: Just got in the bath. Still can't believe I'm doing this.
Sophia: Girl, you deserve some fun! How are you feeling?
Emily: Nervous as hell. Excited too. What if I fuck it up?
Her stomach fluttered with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. Emily closed her eyes, trying to calm her racing thoughts.
Sophia: You won't! He's clearly into you. Just be yourself.
Emily: Easy for you to say. You're not the one probably about to get spanked by a hot stranger.
She felt a rush of heat that had nothing to do with the bathwater. Memories of Lucas' hands on her body flashed through her mind.
Sophia: OMG yes! Get it, girl! ??
Emily: Christ, Soph. What am I doing?
Sophia: Having fun! Live a little!
Emily chewed her lip, conflicted. Part of her wanted to cancel, to retreat to the safety of her comfort zone. But a larger part craved the excitement, the raw passion she'd felt with Lucas.
Emily: You're right. Fuck it. I'm going all in.
Sophia: That's my girl! Knock his socks off!
Emily: Thanks, babe. I'll text you tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Sophia: You don't need luck. Just don't do anything I wouldn't do! ?
Emily snorted, setting her phone aside. "That doesn't rule out much," she muttered, sinking deeper into the bubbles. She had a date to get ready for.
Emily stood before the full-length mirror, her skin still flushed from the bath. She ran her fingers over the delicate green lace of the bra, admiring how it contrasted with her pale skin. As she slid on the matching thong, she couldn't help but smirk.
"Damn, girl," she muttered to herself. "Lucas won't know what hit him."
Her hands trembled slightly as she fastened the suspender belt. Was it nerves or excitement? Maybe both. Emily took a deep breath, steadying herself.
"You've got this," she whispered. "New Emily, new adventures."
She carefully rolled on the stockings, relishing the feel of the silky material against her legs. The whole ensemble made her feel powerful, sexy. Like she could conquer the world - or at least one very lucky man.
Emily kept her makeup light - just enough to enhance her green eyes and add a touch of colour to her lips. As she ran a brush through her chestnut waves, she couldn't help but grin at her reflection.
"Not too shabby for a small-town girl," she mused.
The dress slid on like a dream, hugging every curve. Emily did a little twirl, watching the slit reveal tantalizing glimpses of leg. She slipped on the heels, instantly feeling taller, more confident.
"Sophia's going to flip," Emily chuckled, grabbing her phone.
She struck a flirty pose, snapping a quick photo. Without overthinking it, she sent it off to her best friend.
Emily: What do you think? Too much?
Emily's phone buzzed with Sophia's response:
Sophia: Holy shit, Em! ??? You look absolutely stunning! Lucas won't know what hit him.
A smile tugged at Emily's lips as she read the message, a mix of excitement and nerves fluttering in her stomach. She took one last glance in the mirror, smoothing down the silky fabric of her dress.
Ding
Her taxi was here. "Shit," Emily muttered, scrambling to grab her things. She snatched her favourite black jacket off the hook, slipping it on as she tossed her phone and lipstick into her clutch.
Her heels clicked against the hardwood as she hurried to the door, pausing for just a moment. "You've got this," she told her reflection in the entryway mirror, taking a deep breath. "It's just a date. With a ridiculously hot guy who fucks like a god. No pressure."
Emily stepped out into the cool evening air, the salty breeze from the coast tousling her carefully styled hair. As she climbed into the waiting taxi, her thoughts drifted to Lucas. To his strong hands, his intense gaze, the way he'd made her feel more alive than she had in years.
"Where to, miss?" the driver asked.
"The Rusty Anchor, please," Emily replied, her voice steadier than she felt. As the taxi pulled away from the curb, she leaned back against the seat, letting out a shaky laugh.
"What the hell am I doing?" she whispered to herself, equal parts terrified and thrilled at the prospect of seeing Lucas again. But as the lights of Seabridge blurred past the window, Emily knew there was no turning back now. Whatever happened tonight, she was all in.
Emily's heart raced as the taxi pulled up to The Rusty Anchor. Through the window, she caught sight of Lucas waiting outside, cutting a dashing figure in a tailored navy suit. The driver opened her door and she stepped out, her silver heels clicking on the pavement.
Lucas' eyes lit up as he took her in. "You look absolutely stunning," he said, his gaze trailing appreciatively over her form-fitting emerald dress.
"You clean up pretty well yourself," Emily replied with a smirk. "Who knew you could pull off suited and booted so nicely?"
He leaned in close, his breath hot against her ear. "Baby girl, you'd look good enough to eat in anything. But this dress? It's making me want to skip dinner altogether."
A shiver ran through her at his words. Fuck, why did his voice have to be so damn sexy?
Lucas placed a hand on the small of her back, guiding her towards the entrance. He held the door open with a gentlemanly flourish. "After you."
Inside, the hostess led them to a secluded table by a large window overlooking the moonlit sea. Lucas pulled out Emily's chair for her before taking his own seat opposite.
As Emily settled in, she couldn't help but admire how the candlelight played across Lucas' chiseled features. Those piercing blue eyes, that strong jawline... Christ, how was she supposed to make it through dinner without jumping him?
"See something you like?" Lucas asked with a knowing smirk.
Emily felt her cheeks flush. Busted. "Maybe," she replied coyly. "Though I'm starting to think I should've skipped the fancy underwear and just shown up naked under this dress."
Lucas' eyes darkened with desire. "Don't tempt me, baby girl. I might just bend you over this table right now."
The moment their waiter appeared, all amorous banter between Emily and Lucas vanished into the salty ocean breeze. "Would you like to see our wine list tonight?" the waiter inquired, his crisp white shirt a beacon of formality amid the rustic ambiance of the Rusty Anchor.
Emily glanced at the dauntingly long list, her eyes instantly glazing over. Wine? She knew nothing about the stuff, and she wasn't about to pretend otherwise. "Surprise me," she said to Lucas with a shrug, sipping her water. "Something... red."
Lucas chuckled, an amused grin tugging at his lips as he took the leather-bound list from the waiter. He picks something that Emily doesn't know what even means, and orders a bottle.
The waiter nodded, a knowing glint in his eye, and disappeared as discreetly as he'd arrived.
"I know nothing about wine."
Lucas' laughter filled the space between them, rich and deep, like the notes of a finely aged whiskey.
The air between them crackled with unspoken words, tension as thick as the salty sea air drifting through the open window. The sound of utensils clattering against plates and hushed laughter from other tables faded into the background, until it was just the two of them, trapped in a maelstrom of lust and longing.
The waiter returned, expertly uncorking the wine and pouring them each a glass. "Enjoy," he said, his voice barely audible over the pounding of their hearts.
Lucas raised his glass, his eyes never leaving hers. "To new beginnings."
"To the unexpected," she countered, her voice husky with unspoken desires.
Their glasses clinked, the sound like an intimate symphony, and as their eyes met, a silent understanding passed between them.
The waiter's polished shoes clicked away across the gleaming floor. Emily traced the rim of her wine glass, watching Lucas' eyes dance in the candlelight.
"So," he said, leaning forward slightly, "what do you do for work, Emily?"
She took a sip of the red wine he'd chosen. Damn, it was good. "I'm in marketing at my parents' company. Eventually it'll be mine to run."
Lucas raised an eyebrow, looking impressed. "A future CEO, huh? That's quite the responsibility."
Emily shrugged, aiming for nonchalance even as her stomach fluttered. "It's what I've been groomed for since birth, pretty much. Sometimes I wonder if it's really what I want though, you know?"
She bit her lip, surprised at her own candor. Something about Lucas made her want to open up.
He nodded thoughtfully. "I get that. It's not easy living up to others' expectations."
Emily's eyes widened. How did he manage to see right through her?
"Yeah," she said softly. "Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the opportunity. It's just..."
"A lot of pressure," Lucas finished.
Their eyes met and understanding passed between them. Emily felt a rush of warmth, along with a pang of nervousness. This was veering into deeper territory than she'd planned for a first date.
Emily leaned forward, intrigued by the quiet strength Lucas exuded. His piercing blue eyes held a depth of experience that made her pulse quicken.
"So what's your story?" she asked, swirling the wine in her glass.
Lucas' lips curved into a wry smile. "Ex-military. Left the forces a couple years back."
His voice had a commanding presence that sent a shiver down Emily's spine. She found herself hanging on his every word as he continued.
"Now I run my own security firm. Mostly hire other vets." He paused, his gaze drifting to the moonlit sea outside. "Adjusting to civilian life can be a bitch. So we try to support our guys - help 'em find housing, settle in. We fund therapy if it's needed or if they want it. Replace some of what the military gave 'em."
Emily nodded, impressed by his sense of loyalty and purpose. She wondered what experiences had shaped him, what battles he'd faced.
"Must've been a hell of a transition," she mused.
Lucas' jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. "You could say that. One day you're in the shit, next day you're trying to figure out how to be a regular fucking person again."
His blunt words stirred something in Emily. She felt an urge to reach across the table and take his hand, to connect with the vulnerability beneath his stoic exterior.
Instead, she took another sip of wine, her mind racing. This man was an enigma - commanding yet caring, hardened yet sensitive. She wanted to unravel every layer.
Emily fidgeted with her napkin, acutely aware of Lucas' intense gaze. The candlelight flickered across his chiseled features, throwing shadows that only enhanced his rugged appeal.
A smirk played at the corner of Lucas' mouth as he leaned in, his voice a low rumble. "You don't need to be nervous around me, baby girl. I've already had you screaming my name, remember?"
Heat flooded Emily's cheeks. Memories of their passionate night together flashed through her mind - his strong hands on her body, his lips trailing fire across her skin. She swallowed hard, trying to regain her composure.
"I'm not nervous," she lied, lifting her chin defiantly.
Lucas chuckled, the sound sending a shiver down her spine. "Is that so? Because from where I'm sitting, you look like you're about to bolt."
Emily narrowed her eyes. "I don't bolt, Lucas. I face things head-on."
"That's my girl," he murmured approvingly.
The possessive edge to his words both thrilled and unnerved her. What am I getting myself into? she wondered. This man was dangerous - in all the best and worst ways.
