Diane POV
A five-star breakfast meal by a top chef is the best.
I hadn’t realised how much I missed out on top meals till I was munching on this one.
Having to rely on snack bags and fast food has taken away the memory of how luxurious food can be.
Well, all this luxury enjoyed was thanks to the Lunari.
Who would have thought that immediately after accepting her offer to be partners?
She would immediately turn my misery around.
It’s been two days since she brought me to this luxurious apartment. And two days of not sleeping in dirty and unstable motels. Two days of wearing comfortable designer wear, shoes, and makeup.
I felt like the Luna of a pack all over.
“Mom?” Kiela's squeaky voice brought my attention to her.
She was also looking like the child of a queen. Her hair was packed in a ponytail. The dress cost a million bucks and made her look so beautiful.
“Yes, baby.” My heart warmed to see her this way.
“When is Dad coming?”
I rolled my eyes, annoyed.
She had made a pact to miss her father for the past few days since she had been with me.
It irritated me to the bone to see her miss him so much. It was as though all my attempts to make her hate him failed miserably.
“Enough with the questions. Eat your breakfast.”
She pouted but got silent.
“I miss him… and-“
“That’s it. One more word, and I’ll be shipping you off to him.” I said with a cold stare.
It kept her mute for the rest of the meal.
After that, I called a maid to take her to her room.
All so I could spend the rest of the day Relaxing and in peace.
I went for a dive in the pool on the house's patio.
The swim felt freshening and relaxing. I spent a while in it.
Before coming out and resting on the pool chair.
With juice and cookie snacks.
This was indeed the life.
I had even fallen asleep. But was awakened by a tap on my shoulder.
When I looked to see who had caused it, It was one of the maids.
“What is it?”
“You have a visitor, ma’am.” The maid said with her head downcast.
The only visitor I could have would be the Lunari herself. And so I got up from the pool chair and entered the living room.
And behold, I was right. The Lunari sat there with a cup of coffee in her hands.
I sat on the couch.
“Good day.” I greeted.
She ran her eyes all around me.
“I see you must be enjoying your new home.”
“Quite wonderfully. Thank you so much for it.”
“Don’t thank me too much. It’s not done out of generosity.” She said coldly.
I swallowed hard and nodded.
“And also put some clothes on. It's weird seeing you all bared.”
I looked down at my soaking bikini. I let out an embarrassed smile before excusing myself to change.
Then I came down back, showered, and put on new clothes.
She still sat in the exact position she did when I left her.
The only difference was that she was reading some magazines.
I sat down on the couch. While she raised her eyes from the magazine when she saw me.
“You were quick.”
I let out a small smile.
“Now, down to business. But before we do that. You need to be aware of some things.”
I nodded.
“First things first. I do not take likely to betrayal. So even if you have a betraying heart. You are just going to have to adjust it. Cause the consequences of betraying me is quite Severe.”
I could feel the fear rocket through my body at that sound. It was funny how a little human could make a big supernatural wolf this scared.
“I promise not to betray you.”
She gave me a sceptical look.
“Well, so that you know ahead. But the day you betrayed me. It is the day you and everyone you love die. Note that I said betray. Not the day I catch you doing it. Cause I won’t wait to catch you. Any funny acts. You are dead!”
Whoever said money and luxury came easy?
I knew it was all going to be like this when I agreed. But I still chose to accept it cause I needed it.
I knew within me that I wasn’t going to ruin this, if not for anyone, but for my daughter's sake.
“I won't betray you,” I said as a matter of fact.
“Good. Now that we have gotten that settled. Let’s talk about the real reason why I had brought you to work with me.”
I am keen to pay more attention.
“Like you already know. Ray messed with me, and I wish to pay him back tenfold, and that’s one of the things you would do for me.”
I squinted my eyes in confusion.
“I’m going to give you the title of the alpha. What Ray had wanted the most.”
I was shocked instantly by the revelation. Me the alpha?.. how is that even possible?
“I don’t owe any claims or right to The alpha position. Plus, I am a girl. So how would you make me the alpha?”
“Oh. Forget gender and rights, darling, if I wish for you to be the alpha. You become the alpha. I am The Lunari, after all.”
She had a proud smile on her face.
The title of Alpha was the best thing I
Could ever get it. It guaranteed me power. And the type that came with respect, protection and money.
It would be a dream come true if I could become the alpha.
But that’s what it was… A dream.
There was no way that the Lunari could make me the alpha.
One, she was a human. Two, the pack wouldn’t accept me as their leader. And if they don’t take me. Then, I can’t be their leader.
I, however, don’t tell her my doubts. As I was scared, she would get mad at me, doubting her.
“The alpha title sounds great.”
“So you would accept it?”
Of course, I would. Who in their right senses wouldn’t?
I didn’t believe she could make it happen. But watching her try and make it happen didn't hurt.
If it happens, it would still be to my advantage. And if it doesn’t… well, she wouldn’t try to kill me as I didn’t betray her.
She may try to compensate for disappointing me by giving me more money and status.
“I accept,” I said with a huge beam on my face.
She nodded.
“Good.”
“Now, onto the next thing I need you for…”
My attention was rapt on her.
“This one is the brain box of my plan. If it doesn’t work, then I won’t be able to make you the alpha. And so I will need you to listen to me carefully.”
I nodded. The living room was as silent as a graveyard.
Which only added to the anxiety of my curiosity.
“To be able to make you the alpha. And go against many supernatural and powerful creatures like your kind. I would have to be on the same terrain with them. If not bigger and more powerful than them.”
I squinted my eyes in more confusion.
“I would like to be a wolf. The most powerful wolf.”
I froze up at the confession.
“You wish to be like us?”
“Yes.”
“No offence. But you are either born a wolf, or you are not. Wolves can’t be made. They are just given birth to naturally. Suppose you weren’t born a wolf. Then you can’t be one.”
I know my words sounded harsh. And I had even expected her to be angry at them.
However, she was smirking full-on.
Causing me to feel confused. Did she perhaps know something that I don’t know?
“Trust me, darling. Wolves can be made. And I’m not saying this as some motivational talk. I’m saying this as a testament to a human who became a wolf.”
That was impossible. It must have been a legend. No way could ever have happened.
“It’s not possible. The legend's stories don’t count as testament.”
“I’m pretty offended that you would think
That my testament is from some bedtime
Story. But not to worry. I understand why you can’t comprehend what I have just said. Your thinking cap is relatively small to carry it anyway. But I just spoke the truth. And I say this cause it happened to one of you.”
“Who?”
“Your very own alpha. Adrien.”
I gasped in utter shock.
“His dear father couldn’t birth a child. They got a human and made the pack witch turn him into a wolf. Not just that. His father transferred his alpha powers to Adrien. Which made him immensely powerful.”
“That.. that is not true.”
“It is darling. Ray was the one who told me when I made deeper findings. I found proof of his claim. The journal of Adrien’s dead father. Where he wrote all about us dirty secrets.”
I was still too stunned to speak.
“Hearing that paved the way for my next plan: meet the pack witch and get her to turn me. However, ray pissed that I didn’t work with him. Killed the pack witch.”
I could now understand just why she was so pissed with him.
“It was hard trying to find another witch as I’m human, and wolves don’t like showing themselves to humans. Luckily, I thought of you. My redemption to finding another witch. And having her do the spell.”
Now, why she would want to work with me, all made sense.
