Chapter 73 The Attack
Chapter 73
Jax's POV.
BOOM! BOOM!
The sound of gunshots erupted in the air, lightning breaking through stubborn mountains .
The noise had come especially from the direction the ale-server had gone … the same direction we were coming from before both of us stood at the hallway.
For a second, the blood inside me turned ice.
“Ahhh….. Ahhh…!
Then deep screaming follows.
Boom … Boom… Boom!
The hallway trembled.
Ahhh…. Ahhh…. Ahhh!!!”
This time the screaming intensified, far greater than the first, from where I was having ale earlier.
And that voice… No.. that couldn't be
Pack members were running for safety, especially coming through the hallway from the direction the ale-server took to the main hall where I was drinking.
The shooting persisted. The screaming intensified..
Heavy feet into the hallway, especially the Omegas who were working as pack escorts, started rushing into the hallway.
I was confused. I didn't know which direction to follow, either to follow coming into the hall and If I should they wouldn't allow me into their rooms or follow the direction where the heavy shooting is taking place.
My stomach dropped, my breath hitched. I didn't know the decision to take… heavy footsteps continue to rush into the hallway running to safety into their rooms, slamming the door, and the locking up of the keys follows.
Then a voice roared out as a large omega ran by me, nearly knocking me into the nearest wall. “The night howler gang is here! Sira had been shot…”
My heart jumped.
Shot?” I muttered and then I squeezed my brow for a moment. But my mind convinced me that it wasn't the poor ale-server they were referring to.
How stupid can I be, when I didn't even know her name.
A tall and slim omega ran after the first one, their footsteps echoing down the hallway, “ they claim to have seen her discussing with someone that looks like an elite in this pack…”
That was the straw. The final straw.
My stomach rumbled. Sweat broke out from my head. My palm turned sweaty. Even my legs denied me.
I wanted to pull the omega to a corner and asked what exactly they saw out there . That wouldn't be a good idea because one wrong word from me, everything about me will be exposed.
And I warned the ale-server not to go yet so as not to expose herself and also our secrets.
If not for the fact that the hallway was partially dark, my identity might have been known. And who knows what might have happened next to me.
Me that my reign over stormfang is exactly like a wolf sitting on an unbalanced, shaky, three-legged stool.
If they knew I was those elites that had put this whole place into a commotion. If they knew I was the shadow they were talking about.
Their shoes were hitting the floor as they were running through the hallway, straight to their rooms.
“They promise to check every room in this building until the elite is seen . They believed it in this building.” The first one , their long distance voice echoed rapidly through the hall.
My heart thumped painfully behind my chest, what could have happened.
No…
I had to move…
I quickly blended into the wolves running from the outside into the hallway. I pretended like I was one of them trying to hide. I lowered my head. I kept my shoulder hunched. My steps were quick but not suspicious.
If only the ale-server had shown me her room, before she stupidly got herself killed, it would have been good, I would hide myself , probably in a corner room until this ordeal is over.
A few hours later.
I got into the palace, after being rescued by a whisker. Thanks to one good hearted omega who had taken me in. I begged and gave her my gold chain before she could offer help.
I had merely escaped through the back door of the building, via the restroom, that totally boycotted the ale-house.
I had marched into the palace, roughly a few hours later, like someone who had rolled through death and fear at the same time. My dirty and torn, dust covered every part of my body, my hair sticking to my firehouse, the smell of ale oozes from me.
The three of the guards followed me as they dragged their feet like it was laced with infection. I turn to them. “ Go and tell Rogers to prepare his army to match the market on the day break!”
Yes my lord,” they bowed their heads and hurried out of my presence.
I looked at my appalling state, roughed up, and I checked the time. It was three am. I needed to wash myself up, I stepped in the bedroom when the light suddenly flickered on.
I turned… Rosa!
I flinched.
Like I had seen a ghost walking into the room through its thick walls.
Where did you go… When did you come back?” Those series of questions quickly tumbled out of my lips.
“I…I… so sorry…” Rosa went down into the ground, with her knees.
Rosa! I am not asking for your apology, I only asked where you have gone for the past three days..
I looked at her lips trembling, I just wanted to know if she was at the place wolves told me they found her.
…. I never meant to leave you and the pack like that …”
So what fucking happened?”
“It was my mother,... I got the message that… she…” She stammered, her lips trembled.
That…”
She was sick… she now stays at Crimson pack.” she replied, still trembling on knees.
That was the part I wanted to hear. I know she would never say the truth. She had gone to meet her secret lover with her situation and her inability to conceive.
You have only things you are going to do for me now.” I closed my eyes, you are going to use that door and get out of my room now!"
