Chapter 72 Five At The Table
Chapter 72 .
Jax's POV.
My eyes flickered…
Like I didn't hear the last part of that statement.
I muted, dropped the bottle in my hand on the table, and listened properly.
The money is not that bad. “We will only use a portion to carry out the job while the rest.,..... afterall, Tiger, Bear and Pain had escaped with their boss' money and the world didn't end…”
My ears stopped functioning for a moment. I couldn't finish listening to the remaining part of their conversation.
My fear intoxicated state evaporated through my pores. Reality set in.
Riot. Chaos. Rebellion.
I slowly shifted my vision to the direction this demonic conversation was coming from.
I wanted to go and challenge them, but that would be the most foolish approach. I rather for a better and more proactive way to tackle this menace.
So the rumor of toppling my reign was as true as daylight. I thought it was based on falsehood. Pack members and a few elites who had cultivated it as a habit to peddle lies like stones within the pack.
I relaxed back into my chair, folded my arm for a minute. To think through on what to do next.
Then the young ale-server came back with bottles of ale in her hand.
“I am sorry… Owl…” she was forced to speak, dropping the bottle on the table in front of me.. I am trying to arrange my room before asking you to check-in …”
I quickly gave her that subtle signal, and she quickly got the message.
I didn't stand from where I was sitting so they wouldn't see me, “I just whispered, who are those wolves over there?”
The young ale-server who had gotten the message, stylishly turned her head to other side of the divide and checked the wolves I am referring to, she smiled back, a sign that she had gotten the message,
“Not here owl ….” she quickly changed her gaze towards me..
The next most important thing was to move from where I sat without them noticing. From where I sat, I didn't know their numbers, but I guess they couldn't be more than four.
The young ale-server helped me up, and my eyes drifted to them and quickly turned my face away from them.
I was almost right, they were not four but five in numbers. Chit-chating around the table I quickened my feet fast enough so that no one would recognize me, including a few other wolves who had been sitting around other tables in the room.
I paced my footsteps, following the young ale-server, away from the room. Praying inside that no-one would recognize me.
We had hardly gotten to a corridor, with doors where rooms were placed along the hallway, when I quickly dragged her closer, like a long time lover whom we have denied ourselves touch and I pinned him to the wall.
“Just tell me who those wolves are?” I said, still pinning her to the wall, her face bored into mine.
She put up a smile with her gap teeth like it meant nothing, you mean those ones over there?”
That gesture irritated me, then I tightened my grip around her arm.
Ooouch… my …” she managed to utter. The smile, tugging at the corner of her lips, suddenly vanished.
I didn't need to say anything. I think she understood the message.
“I… I know two out of them,” she voiced out, her voice strained, " One is called zero, the other is called Kross…”
“What?” The word barely escaped from my mouth.
Zero… Kross.. so those scumbag have names. Faces… Identities.
This wasn't gossip anymore, this was real. I loosened my grip abit, but not to think I am satisfied with what she has given me.
“Tell me everything I need to know, ” I whispered.
She swallowed, her eyes darting along the hallway.
“ Alpha… sorry… Owl… I only know what I hear… they come here sometimes… They pack Rogues and sometimes function as bandits … They only come here sometimes to relax after a successful operation…”
“Where do they live… in this pack?” I lowered my voice, demanding answers.
“I know… two of them live in this pack… but the rest…” she paused a minute, swallowing down a thick saliva that had clogged up her throat, " the rest… comes from outside… "
Didn't… that outside possess a name?” I asked clenching my teeth, tightening that grip again. Boring my eyes into hers“ Or you are with them?"
Something like … Alpha Dominion pack…”
“Alpha Dominion pack? Our neighbouring pack here?”
Yes,
“Now listen…” I counted another cash and dipped it into her bra. I will be here this time tomorrow, “ I want to know the name of their boss, who they work for…. And every basic information about them…”
… And listen carefully,” I said pointing my fingers into her face, " you don't go back there immediately… If you go charging with this type of fear on your face, you will blow the entire secret. Stay here, calm down.
Then I gave her a firm warning look. But that money… lit up her eyes with a dangerous spark of loyalty.
She shook her head, “I have served in this ale-house for more than three years now. I know how to hide, I know how to protect myself… I promise not to do anything stupid that would blow the entire secret off…”
Before I could finish, she slipped under my arm, hurried down the hallway, steadying her steps, tucking the money properly into her inner bra, adjusting dress.
Hey wait!
“Damn it!” I hissed under my breath.
Her feet slap the floor with high intensity as it disappears along the hallway. She turned, she looked back, she didn't give that respect to Jax, alpha king of stormfang pack that is talking to her.
I stood stranded in the hallway. I didn't know where to go either to go back to the main room, which was not possible baring the way I had disguised and shielded myself from being seen by those rogues.
A few young male young wolves with their escorts passed besides locating a room. I stood there for roughly thirty minutes.
Then I heard …
BOOM… BOOM…
