Chapter 8: Chapter Eight
Cassidy checked her watch. Eight pm. Jett still was not back and she feared the worst had happened to him. The wolves had come in and taken him just after seven in the morning and she had been completely alone since then. Panic and distress had set in immediately and she had paced back and forth at the length of her chain for hours, switching between several emotions through the day.
Never having been in this kind of situation before, Cassidy had been filled with fear after they took Jett. Not for herself but for him. She had no idea what to expect from these wolves. Jett was more familiar with this kind of stuff. Being the beta to her father he had also been in charge of the pack prison back then. He knew what went on in the cells and where ever they decided to take him.
Around noon, the fear had turned into a depression that was unsettling. She had over come the fear of being where she was. She couldn't stop whatever was happening to Jett and she sat herself down against the wall, staring at the door while waiting for them to come for her. Maybe give her some food or water. Anything.
She sat in the complete silence, listening to the faint sounds the echoed through the air vents. She strained her hearing to try and pick up on Jett's voice but she Han nothing other than the constant scraped of a chain from someone pacing.
Six pm came and went and the depression swiftly turned into anger that was a boiling rage unlike anything she had ever felt in her life time. It could have been the feeling of being helpless and feeling sorry for herself. Or it could have been the realization that she had allowed this to happen to Jett.
She vented her anger to anyone that could hear it, screaming at the door. She pulled and yanked on the cuffs until her wrists bled. She carried on until she had exhausted herself when no one would come to her demands to speak with one of the guards, eventually collapsing into the corner of her side of the room.
Cassidy had not moved from the corner, glaring at the door as if that would make someone show up or would bring Jett back. She shunned the role of being Alpha and had refused to try and lead Jett but here she was, feeling the responsibility for him as her pack. Feeling the guilt that she should be doing something to protect him. A lot of the anger she was feeling right now as she sat in the corner of the room was from anger at herself because she was helpless and at the mercy of these wolves.
Shortly after checking her watch and imagining several ways that she could try and take the guards out on her own, the locking mechanism to the door opened with a soft scrape and the metal door swung open on silent hinges. A frown etched into her face and her eyes narrowed in anger when the same tall, dark haired man came in from earlier in the morning followed by a slim woman with a medical bag.
“The guards informed the Alpha you were harming yourself without the other rogue in here.” Hunter spoke as the woman had set her bag down and started to prep some supplies. “So Ive brought the doctor.” He said and squatted down just out of the range that the chains would have allowed her to go.
“Will you allow her to look at your wounds or am I going to have to pin you down again? Trust me, I don't mind sweetheart. Human or not.” He said with a wolfish smile.
Cassidy quickly realized with the first few words out of this mans mouth, that he was not the same man as before. He was just a look alike with different clothes on. He wasn't quite as tall, nor as muscular. His eyes were a dark mixture of browns and greens. On some level she recognized he was trying to be nice to her by offering her the medical services and she glanced at the woman who was patiently waiting with gloves on and a few tubes and a needle to take her blood.
The fine pale hair on the back of her neck rose in awareness that they were going to do more than just patch up the raw wounds around her wrists. When the man mentioned pinning her down again, her eyes widened in recognition. This was the man who was at the attack, the one who had tackled her to the ground and effortlessly held her there while Jett fought for his life against several wolves. Her eyes snapped to his and her body went stiff with aggression that seemed to just amuse the man even more.
“You can both go fuck yourselves thats what you can do.” She growled vehemently at the werewolves.
“Nah baby. Ive got plenty of women for that. Ill call your bluff.” He said and stood up from where he had been eye level with Cassidy and pulled his t-shirt over his head, tossing it to the door. Cassidy had stood up in the time it took him to remove his shirt and she had a determined look on her pretty face. “Oh… Look at you? The human thinks she stands a chance.” Hunter taunted her and glanced over when the healer cleared her throat with a worried look on her face.
“Sir… The Alpha was quite clear in his instructions. He wants her tested.” The doctor said in an even tone, gaining a glare from Cass as well. The healer was thin with a blonde pixie cut and kind blue eyes that looked down on Cassidy with pity over anything else.
Cassidy had rose to her feet, letting the anger fuel her. If anything, Jett had at least taught her how to fight and if these two wanted anything from her they were going to have to fight her for it. The large man had given a shrug and came towards her a lot faster than Cassidy had been expecting but she was still ready. A length of the chain was pulled between her hands and the second the male made his move to grab her, she ducked low under his arms, dropped the chain and used her hands to grab him by the shirt.
She yanked hard, using the wolf’s own momentum to tip him off balance so he fell forward as she dodged out of his reach.
Hunters Pov
This was supposed to be an easy task. A quick get in, get out, go home and eat his dinner type of thing. But the little female was making it very difficult. Not just for him, but for her as well. James had been quite clear when he gave him his orders after he received the news the human had been hurting herself in her tantrum.
‘Take the pack doctor and get her cleaned up. Test her blood and find out just what she is. She isn't human. She has hardly any scent. That rogue she came in with refuses to speak about her so we will just get answers our own way.’ James had said.
It was admirable how much fire the woman had in her. Humans, even she-wolves were weak and the later were submissive to any wolf in a rank of power over them. Yet here was this slip of a girl, challenging not only him but the doctor and he had grinned, accepting that challenge for what it was. Except he wasn't so prepared to come face first with the metal wall when he went to grab her. She had used his own weight against him and he hit hard enough to crack his nose.
Giggles erupted and Hunter pushed himself off from the wall, standing with a growl to first look at the chained woman who was glaring at him from the end of her chain, then to the doctor who had a grin on her face but when he glared at her she instantly sobered. “Find it funny Jaz?” Hunter asked as he wiped the small trickle of blood from his nose. When there was no answer from the healer and she looked away, he gave a snort before he reached out and grabbed the tight chain that was connected to the wall and pulled tight by Cassidy.
She had tried to keep her distance from him and that wasn't going to happen. Hunter’s glare eased into something of amusement for a moment before his expression became serious when he twisted his hand and wrapped the chain around his wrist.
“And Now… You're mine.” He growled at Cassidy.
The look of shock on the womans face was priceless when she realized her mistake of trying to move away from him while she was still chained to the wall. The angry look on her face shifted into shock when she seen him wrap the metal around his wrist and then into fear the instant she was yanked forward several feet on the first pull, a yelp mixed with surprise and pain from her wrist was followed by the girl fighting back. Hunter chuckled and pulled her the rest of the way to him like she weighed nothing at all and grabbed her by the wrists and spinning her around. Twisting one of her arms high up behind her back got the human to rise on her toes and calm down as his other arm wrapped around her tightly.
“There. Now see? So Dramatic over a little bit of blood.” He whispered gruffly against Cassidy’s ear. “We are going to sit down, and you are going to behave. Dont tempt me to discipline you. You got a lucky shot but you wont get another one.” He said as he backed them both against the wall and slowly sat down with Cassidy between his legs.
The woman looked like she was going to be sick, but she grit her teeth and controlled herself even when he crossed one of his legs over top of her outstretched ones. When he had both of her arms secure with his right arm, Hunter let go of her twisted up wrist and grabbed Cassidy by her hair, fisting the strands and pulling her neck back so her artery was exposed. “Make it quick doc.” He said firmly over the panicked whimper that came from the small body he was holding.
The doctor was quick about her work, taking the blood from Cassidy first while Hunter held her still. “Both of you are going to rot in hell. Especially you, you mutt bastard!” the woman had cursed at them when she couldn't struggle out of the tight hold the wolf had on her. After the healer had taken the blood and bandaged her wrists, the doctor stood up and announced she was finished just as the door opened again and Jett’s unconscious and battered body was being drug in and chained back in the opposite corner.
“Good work men. Take your report to the alpha. We can work on this crafty bitch tomorrow if he didn't give us anything.” Hunter praised and said to the guards as they secured the silver chains back to the cuffs and collar. “Now I'm going to let you go woman. Don't do anything you will regret or I'm going to make you wish you were that wolf you came in with. Got me?” he asked and when Cassidy audibly swallowed and gave a nod, he stood with her first and then let her free of his hold.
Hunter chuckled when the female instantly backed as far from him as the chain would allow. “Good.” He said and headed to the door, waiting for the guards and the doctor all to leave before he followed, leaving Cassidy staring across the room in shock at the condition the male wolf was in.
