Chapter 7: Chapter Seven
Cassidy’s Pov
She had been sleeping so well. It was a calm darkness without dreams and without fear. It was peaceful and she was slowly lifting back to consciousness. Cassidy wanted so desperately to dive back into the peace of the sleep and she struggled to stay within its grasp but something was disturbing her. She drifted out of that deep sleep and the sound that had been disturbing her grew louder. Roars and snarls and she instantly recognized the sound of the voice threats and curses belonged to.
Everything started to flood back to her. The truck breaking down. The bar. The walk back and then being attacked and then helplessly being pinned down while she and Jett were drugged and put to sleep. She didn't move, laying still and checking herself for injuries. Someone was close to her smelling fresh as if they just stepped out of a shower. Her throat tightened feeling a warm finger very gently brushing over her scraped up face but when she felt the heat of the person come close and radiate off her cool skin and take a deep breath just a few inches away from her ear. The fine hair all over her body stood up and she opened her eyes, staring right into the face of a stranger.
Cassidy’s first thought was ‘wow’ when she seen the mans face, the fear temporarily gone for a few seconds. He was a massive man from her perspective of him looming over her, much more bulky than Jett was. His face was sculpted with a square jaw and strong chin. A classical straight Greek nose centered his face and his lips were pressed together into a slight frown that matched the concentrated drawn together brows. The sound of chains snapping tight and then a savage yell from Jett snapped her out of the admiration of the man and the fear came back swiftly just as the darkest mossy green eyes blinked open and he gazed at her.
James and Cassidy stared at each other for less than a second but for Cass it felt like an eternity. She felt frozen, unable to move as long as the stranger didn't move. James scowled suddenly and her eyes widened. She thought he had been beautiful for a second but when his face showed his displeasure she seen him as the harsh and dangerous man he was and she pressed herself back against the wall away from him. She was no match for the man and with Jett chained up and going wild, she didn't want to risk giving this man any reason to touch her.
Cassidy held her breath and looked away from the imposing man in submission, not doubting for a second he was a high ranking wolf just from the way he looked.
When Cassidy cowered back and looked away from James, he gave a little grunt of disapproval before he stood up and went to the door. He glanced back at Cassidy before he turned to the two of them. “You have trespassed into BlackStone territory.” He said while turning a glare to Jett who had calmed down just a little once James had removed himself away from Cassidy.
“You will be questioned at our leisure about the rogue activity among other things. Enjoy your stay.” He said with a cold, almost cruel smile before he stepped through the solid door, speaking lowly to one of the guards on the other side just before the door slammed shut, leaving her and Jett alone.
“Cass” Jett called out in a hoarse voice from his side of the room, his chains rattling as he sat himself down heavily, exhausted after the struggle he just went through to try and protect her without any outcome in his favor. “Cassidy!” he more or less barked at her to snap her out of her daze and It worked, Cassidy jumping where she was laying. She let out a soft sound of nervous whine as she slowly sat herself up. Her body was sore and hurt from the struggle on the pavement under the black wolf.
She was sure she was bruised under her jeans and hoodie. Her worried eyes went to the bands around her wrists that were connected by thick metal links to the metal wall behind her. “CASS.” She jerked her head towards Jett, staring at him in silence for a few seconds before she started to breath heavy, shock settling in as she quickly began to realize the world of trouble they were in.
Cass swung around to face the wall, grabbing ahold of the chain and rising to her feet. She gave a forceful tug and pull on the chains that were solidly fastened into the wall. She pulled a few more times before she let out a sob of breath and looked over to Jet, tears filling her eyes. “We are trapped in here.” She stated and moved over as close as her restraints would allow her to get to jet, her guardian moving towards her as well. There was a good three feet of space between them.
“Breathe Cassidy. Calm down. We cant change what has already happened. This is my fault, I didn't expect the truck to break down in this territory.” Jett said in a calm tone. “Are you okay? I couldn't help you. There were-”
“I'm fine and I know. There were too many of them.” She interrupted him and slowly sat down against the wall, her eyes focused on Jett as she worked on calming her breathing and the panic she felt. Physically she was fine. There were scrapes and bruises, but mentally? Being taken prisoner by any pack was pretty much a death sentence.
“Why did they attack us Jett? I don't understand it. We didn't do anything wrong?” she questioned, leaning her head against the wall as she watched the other wolf and his sudden guilty expression. She stiffened a little when Jett’s eyes went downcast and he looked away from her. “We didn't do anything wrong, right?” she asked with a little more concern in her voice.
“I had things in the truck that could get us into a lot of trouble by a big pack. Things everyday wolves just don't have access to. I wanted to protect you in the event rogues ever found us again. Fuck… “ he cursed and lowered his head. “Ive heard of this pack Cassi. Every wolf has. Blackstone has ruled the north western lands as long as Wildwoods had ruled the north east. Except where your father was peaceful, Rumor has it the Black family has controlled with tooth and nail and an iron grip.” He said in a hushed voice, leaving out the part where it was said if you were taken as one of their prisoners you never came back. He didn't need to frighten Cassidy even more.
“Listen to me Cass. I want you to tell them you're human. Okay? Act like you don't know anything. They might let you go.” He whispered to her so it wouldn't be over heard.
Cassidy wasn't sure she was hearing Jett correctly. He had preached to her all of her life the Honor in being true and honest, and now he wanted her to lie. She took all the information he gave her to heart even if she wasn't sure she could really lie to anyone, even these wolves. This had all just been some kind of mistake and a big misunderstanding. “Get some rest Jett. You look like shit.” She said in a firm tone. These were not rogues… These were sane wolves that had them. She could handle other wolves and reason with them. Make them see how they were in the wrong.
Cass watched Jett nod a little and slip down to his side to try and get some rest while he could. They were not going anywhere any time soon and both of them needed time to recover and recoup their emotions. She looked around, for the first time taking notice of where they were. The walls were a smooth, shiny stainless steel as well as the ceiling. A vent was pumping in air conditioned air and the single overhead light was glaring bright. The floor was concrete and as smooth as the walls, sloping down in a slight degree to a drain in the center of the room.
Cassidy looked to the door where the man had exited. It was made of metal and looked heavy, a one way window tinted viewing window built into it. It wasn't a big room, nor cramped. They were each chained close to opposing corners. They couldn't reach each other and couldn't get anywhere near that door if they wanted to. She made a face and drew her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs, hugging herself.
Jett was weakened. She could tell and guessed the cuffs and collar he was chained with was made of some high grade silver. He fell asleep almost the second he laid his head down, his body trying to recover from the sedative. She still had her clothes and her watch and was thankful to be able to track the time as the minutes ticked by.
With Jett asleep and no one to talk to and only her own thoughts to occupy her mind, it was easier for Cassi to hear the disembodied sounds of other wolves through the ventilation ducts. A man had cried almost uncontrollably the entire night. Another’s screams of pain and the snap of a whip were barely audible but they were there. If she focused hard enough, she could hear the scraping of chains as one prisoner paced his cell in madness.
By the time seven in the morning came around, Cassidy was cold and pale from her imagination going wild at what had been happening to the other wolves and what was going to happen to them. She had to get out of here with Jett and maybe lying was going to be the only way. The metallic click of a computerized deadbolt sliding free had her freezing and standing up “Jett…” she whispered to try and wake him but the heavy door swung open on silent hinges.
Three large men dressed in what could only be called riot gear came in through the door, forcing Cassidy back into her corner with a frightened cry that brought Jett awake with a start. He had only seconds before the three guards were on him. The men were very well trained, One slipping a control stick loop over his head and around his neck like a dog warden would use on strays. One pinning him by his shoulders face down as the third quickly placed Jett’s hands behind his back with cuffs.
Jett fought them and Cassidy had come forward to the end of her chains, pleading with the strangers to leave Jett alone. Her pleas fell on deaf ears as the three men hauled Jett upright and unhooked the chains from the cuffs and the collar while controlling the snarling and thrashing man. Cassidy watched as they drug Jett from the cell, the metal door swinging back into place and locking followed by a deafening silence.
Cass felt as helpless as she had as a twelve year old child hiding in a bunker.
