CHAPTER 28
Maxwell's POV:
I looked at my mate sleeping peacefully. She stirred in her sleep, making me feel alarmed. I stepped aside from the bed to not wake her up.
My mate. Jayla.
She was fucking gorgeous. I knew I said it so often, but it was the truth. I couldn't help it.
I smiled as I caressed her cheek gently.
Her cheeks were so soft. I loved them as much as her soft lips.
Her lips made me go crazy. I was unable to stay away from them. I put my lips against hers quickly, brushing her lips with mine.
I couldn't wait to wake her up and continue our passionate moment, but it was five in the morning. Cole, Huxley, and I would be going to the other packs that I conquered. They were poorly treated by stupid, evil Alphas, so I challenged their Alphas and won by killing them. I was not a dark Alpha who would treat their omegas disgustingly.
Back then, the old Alpha, Kyle, who was the king, made a rule to treat the omegas like servants, like sex toys. My father, Matte, wasn't happy with his rule, and he was the only one who broke the rule.
The council and the King couldn't banish him because he was a powerful Alpha, just like me, who owned half of the werewolf's territory. Once I took over his pack, I made the pack bigger with more territory. More territory meant more responsibility, which was why I had five deltas who were responsible for the pack they were representing.
It was time to leave the main pack and meet them.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. I got up and opened the door quietly.
"What is it?" I snapped with irritation. I didn't like when someone interrupted my time with my mate.
"It's time to go, Alpha," Artaxerxes said with a serious face. One thing I liked about him was he minded his business.
"Thank you, Artaxerxes," I said and closed the door once he walked away. I sighed and prepared my bag. I stole one of her shirts so that I could sniff it.
I didn't want to leave her.
I didn't want to leave my beautiful woman alone. But then, I couldn't take her because she had classes.
It sucks that school started. I was beginning to think about homeschooling since it would be easy for me to graduate and do my Alpha duties.
But I didn't want to leave my little mate surrounded by stupid boys without any protection.
Giovanni wouldn't understand the feeling of wanting to protect one's mate, so I couldn't leave her with him.
"I will be back," I whispered and pecked her forehead; I brushed away the strand of hair that was disturbing her sleep and stood up to leave the room.
I closed the door on my way out and walked into the hallway, thinking about Jayla.
If the punk was telling me the truth, that meant Jayla was their rightful queen. Did it mean she was a werewolf and not a human? Her parents might have been hiding the truth from her. I needed to talk to them.
Only high-ranked witches could hide the appearance of a werewolf.
I took out my phone, and I got in the car. I saw my driver, my guardian, and Marco ready to go.
I gave them a slight nod, and they bowed back to me. The driver started to drive, and I focused on the phone call.
"Alpha Max, how are you?" a dramatic voice said on the phone.
"Becky, shut up," I hissed. Becky and I had a history. She was older than us but looked 20. I fucked her, and she lied about her identity, which made me fucking mad because, before Jayla, I said I would only sleep with werewolves or humans.
Vampires were not my type, like witches. They had this weird obsession with drawing on skin. It was like we were paper to them.
She didn't draw on my skin, but I hated her now that Jayla was finally in my life.
"Calm down, Alpha. What do you want?" she asked as she popped her bubblegum. I couldn't believe I had slept with her.
"Do you know any high-ranked witches that can change our appearance?" I asked directly.
"I'm only a beginner, dude, but I heard that there is an old lady who has mastered the power of changing our appearance," she said, which piqued my interest.
"Where can I find her?"
"Why? Do you want to change your appearance so that you can fuck other girls?" she mocked, and I growled. Cole, beside me, jumped out of his seat, startled.
I threw a glare toward him. "Give me her fucking address."
"Alright, pretty boy. She lives in the Moon Mountains. It's far, though. Are you sure you want to me—"
I hung up the phone before she could continue. Fuck, I hated her disgusting, high-pitched voice.
"What was that about?" Cole asked with frowning eyes.
"I may have found some information about our case," I said shortly because nobody except Cole, Artaxerxes, and the guards that were with us knew about the situation with the rogues.
"Then where should we go after we finish this patrol?"
"To the Moon Mountains. You heard that, Blake?" I told my driver, who nodded.
I sighed and leaned back. I looked at my bodyguard Marco, who was spitting into the phone. God, the person on the other side of the line must be having a hard time. Marco was known to be the deadliest in scolding. He could torture and punish just like Huxley.
That was why I assigned him as my bodyguard even though I didn't need one. It was Uncle Blaze who forced me to have one. That old man needed to chill.
"What's wrong?" I asked once he hung up the call. He was furious.
"Your mate entered the prison with Keaton," he said. It made my heart break. I paled and yelled at the driver to stop the car.
"What the fuck?" I barked loudly. Cole sighed and took out a cigar.
"I told you that she was up for something," he said matter-of-factly.
"Go back to the pack," I ordered the driver, who nodded submissively.
"Warriors, I want you to capture Jayla Jacobs, who is in the prison with Keaton Winston, and to put them in prison," I commanded through mind-link to my warriors who were responsible for my prison pack.
"Son, what happened?" my father asked me in private mind-link.
"My mate is freeing those filthy rogues. Stop her before she does anything that will make me angry," I growled.
My mate was going to be punished.
***
A Few Hours Ago:
Jayla sighed in relief when she heard the door lock. She sat up and walked over to the bathroom since cameras surveillance might be in the room.
"Hey, Keaton, can you open the door, please?" she asked over the phone.
"Yeah, I will be right there," he said and hung up.
She breathed and looked at Max's mark on her neck. She touched lightly and traced the outline of it.
It was beautiful.
But she had to betray her mate to help her people.
She looked determined and put on a black leather jacket and black pants. Keaton and Jayla had planned this long ago. They had memorized the blueprint and how to get them out.
Unfortunately, she couldn't free all of them, but she could free Eglantine and Piper. She swore, though, that she would free those rogues who were famished and mistreated.
The door opened. She smiled and nodded to Keaton, who was holding a backpack.
"Shall we?" he suggested, and she rolled her eyes, locking the door on her way out.
She left a letter on the nightstand because she didn't know if she should leave the land or not.
They walked out of the room and slowly got into the secret hallway without arousing any suspicion. Finally, they reached the gate, and there were two guards.
"What should we do?" she whispered to Keaton who was rubbing his jaw.
"We have to neutralize them," he said and took out a spray. Jayla felt guilty about them getting poisoned, but this was only the solution, and it wasn't harmful.
She put on her mask just like Keaton, and they stepped in front of them.
"Luna, Master Key—"
The man got interrupted when Keaton sprayed the product in their faces. Both of them fell to the ground. They ran toward the cells and reached where Eglantine and Piper were staying.
Jayla took off her mask, showing her face, and unlocked the cell. Eglantine and Piper smirked.
"Didn't know that our Queen was a badass?" Eglantine said in an amused tone. She rolled her eyes.
"Keaton, can you open unlocked Piper's handcuffs?" she asked, and he nodded, walking toward him.
"So, you are our queen's helper," Piper stated to Keaton, who chuckled.
"Maybe. I'm only her bodyguard and friend," he said as he unlocked the handcuffs.
"We don't have any more time. They should be calling Max and the warriors to come and get us," she breathed heavily and finally unlocked Elan's handcuffs.
"We have to go," Keaton said, and they nodded.
They noticed there was a back door on the blueprint. It was usually a door to transport food and resources for prisoners, but tonight, it was being used for escape.
They sprinted toward the door, but when Keaton was about to open it, they heard yelling from the old Alpha, Matte.
"Keaton Winston! I dare you to open the door," he commanded.
"Shit, that's the old Alpha!" Eglantine cursed.
"Damn, that old man is always annoying me." He sighed and tried to open the door.
"Let me use some magic," Piper suggested as he took a wand out of his pants. Jayla widened her eyes as she heard him say incoherent words. The door opened, and they ran toward the woods.
They were running at full speed, so Jayla couldn't keep up with them. Eglantine noticed and picked her up.
"What the fuck?" she yelled.
"Shut up, princess," he said sarcastically and transformed into his werewolf form.
They heard other knights following them.
They reached the pack's border. Jayla screamed as she looked back at the woods. She saw hundreds of werewolves and people on horses following them.
"Stop! Fucking stop!" she shouted at Eglantine who didn't stop running. He growled and looked at Piper who held his wand.
"Little friend, buckle up," Piper snarled to Keaton as he ran. Keaton rolled his eyes.
They walked toward the hills and faced the knights surrounding them.
"Put the wand down, rogue!" The head warrior sneered; Jayla remembered him. His name was Artaxerxes.
"Keaton and Jayla, come here slowly." The old Alpha Matte stepped in with the head warrior.
"Don't touch our queen!" Piper growled.
"The fuck? Your queen? I'm missing something." Matte glared at Artaxerxes, who gulped.
"Let's make a deal," Giovanni started.
"Gio..." Jayla said.
"We can free you if you let go of the girl and the man beside her," he proposed in a stern voice.
"We can't do that. Our superior is expecting our Queen to rule our pack," Eglantine explained.
"Then let go of Keaton. He has nothing to do here," Matte snarled at Keaton who smirked.
"That's where you're wrong, old man. I swore to Max that I would protect her." He stuck out his tongue playfully.
"You little shit! No wonder you work as a janitor in your friend's company," he gritted out between his teeth, holding his hand up.
"Just, please, let go of the girl. She's important." Giovanni sighed desperately.
"We can't do that."
"Because she's important to us too," Piper stated, glaring at Giovanni.
"Eglantine, Piper, I told you that I'm going to free you, but that doesn't mean we are going to tag along with you guys." Jayla seethed.
"I'm really sorry, our Queen, but we have to do this," Eglantine said apologetically.
"Eglantine!" Sse warned and tried to step out of his hold, but he tightened his hold on her.
"My lady!" Keaton yelled and tried to walk toward her, but he felt his body being worn out.
"Sorry, little friend, but we have to take you too." Piper smirked. He picked up Keaton body and put it on his shoulder.
"Let them go!" Giovanni screamed.
Piper started to chant a weird song. Jayla was struggling to push Eglantine's body off of her. She growled and kicked his crotch; he yelled in pain but still held her tight.
The knights and the warriors couldn't get them since they put a silver barrier around them.
"Distaste la vista." Eglantine smirked and winked at Matte, who glared at him.
Piper threw a kiss at Artaxerxes, who was pissed. He growled and lunged at them.
Suddenly, the barrier disappeared.
They should have been happy.
Well, they were not because the Luna and Keaton had also disappeared.
"Fuck!" Giovanni shouted.
