~Charles~
On my way back home from Alpha Kilhan’s house, I couldn’t stop thinking about what I was going to do with the men I had locked up.
‘How dare they hurt my sister?’
I needed justice to be served and the only way I could think of was killing them brutally.
Getting home, my driver opened the door and all the guards bowed to me as I headed into the house.
“Alpha Charles.” One of them called, and I turned to look at him. “Your mother would like to see you. She’s waiting in your chambers.” He uttered, and I bobbed, walking away.
Getting into my chamber, I met my mother seated on one of the chairs. Her head was bowed like she had something bothering her.
“Mom,” I called, causing her to raise her head. “What’s wrong? How did you not hear when I walked in?” I asked, and she heaved a sigh.
“Sorry, Charles. I was lost in thoughts.” She answered.
“Why are you lost in thoughts?” I further inquired as I sat on the chair in front of her.
“I… I am worried about you, son…”
“I am fine.” I cut her short.
“No, you are not fine. You keep telling yourself that, but we both know you’re lying to yourself. You have refused to grieve Danny’s death…”
“Don’t!” I smacked. “Don’t talk about Danny,” I uttered with clenched jaws.
“I will, Charles. You have been more focused on your father’s business, you hardly have time for yourself. You drown yourself in so much work, hoping it would help you escape your pain, but it doesn’t work that way, Charles. You have to let it out.
“You are reflecting your pain on something else. This would do you no good. You have to heal. You have to forgive yourself. It wasn’t your fault!”
I tightened my jaws, slightly lowering my head. “Mom, I am not going to have this conversation with you. I have so many things to do, and that includes punishing those men for hurting my sister.” I answered as I sprang to my feet.
“About that… What are you going to do to them? You’re going to kill them?” She asked, standing up too.
“They deserve death.”
“No, they don’t! If you kill them, it makes you the same as your father! You need to be different from him…”
“I am different from him!”
“If you kill them, you are not. You can keep telling yourself you are going to kill them because they attacked Celine. Just so you know, Darius didn’t go against innocent people, he killed those that he saw as threats.”
“So what do you want me to do, hun? Just let them go so that they can hurt one of us again?” I asked angrily, turning to look at her.
“The decision is up to you. I won’t tell you what to do, but I know my son has a heart, and he is nothing like his father. Don’t disappoint me.”
After speaking, she headed out of my chamber, leaving me to my thoughts.
“Argh!” I groaned as I threw a punch to the wall in rage. I hated that she had to mention Danny. I was trying so hard to forget him and now, she made it even harder.
I felt tears heat the back of my eyes, extracting another groan from me. I threw my head backward and pushed back the tears that threatened to roll out of my eyes.
I stormed out of my chamber and headed to the private room. Getting to the door, I met one of the guards. He was the only one at the door.
“Alpha Charles, are you okay?” He asked, looking into my eyes.
“I am fine,” I answered coldly, walking into the room. I left the door open and turned to look at him.
“I need your attention here,” I said to him and he eagerly walked in and shut the door behind him.
“Do you have any idea how Darius set up these cameras?? I need to activate the ones on the streets. We can keep the ones in the house off. I don’t want to know what’s going on in the house. I just want to see what is happening around Kilhan’s house and our house.” I uttered, keeping my eyes fixed on the blank monitors.
“Alpha Darius never let any of us in, but I can help. I know a little about these things.” He answered.
“Then get to work,” I ordered him, and he nodded, doing exactly what he could.
I headed out of the private room and started walking down the hallway, heading to the cell house, where I had kept the criminals.
I still wasn’t sure how to deal with them, especially after the meeting with my mother. I thought I had enough reasons to end their lives, but she just proved me wrong.
It wasn’t enough reason to take their lives.
“Open the gates and bring out the criminals,” I commanded as soon as I got to the gates. The guards instantly got to work, and I waited until they were all out and on their knees.
As expected, they had bruises all over their bodies. The Beta they fought with didn’t go easy on them either. I kept my eyes fixed on the one in the middle, who happened to be the brother of the man my father murdered.
“Are you just going to stare at us? If you want to kill us, get on with it. It runs in the family, so it isn’t surprising. The only difference is that your father doesn’t take so much time. He gets on with it.” He uttered with a frown.
‘He is still on the verge of death. How is he so unfazed?’ I thought.
“I read your file, Gunnar,” I uttered, and he raised one of his brows in surprise.
“Oh, you know my name? That’s cute.” He answered mockingly.
“And I know what my father did to your brother. I must say it was such a brutal thing. Killing him like that without giving him a second chance…”
“Isn’t that what you want to do to me too?” Gunner further asked, butting in.
“I… I am not like my father, and that is why, I will be letting you go today.” Saying this, I could feel the looks on the guards that watched change into shocked ones.
I moved closer to where he knelt and when the guards tried to move closer, I stopped them by raising my hand.
“Today isn’t the day you die, Gunner,” I said, and without thinking twice, I threw a hard punch to his face, causing him to almost fall to the ground.
“Now that is for Celine,” I uttered, grabbing his collar and throwing another punch to the same side of his face.
“Arghhh.” He groaned loudly in pain.
“That is for the Beta you almost killed,” I added, letting go of him and taking two steps backward.
“Free them!” I ordered, and the guards exchanged looks.
“Alpha…”
“I said free them! Today isn’t the day they die.” I added, looking at Gunner again.
“The day you die is the day I figure out you’re thinking of hurting my sister or anyone close to me ever again. If you want to fight and avenge your brother’s death, you deal with me instead. I’ll make sure you die an honorable death.”
After saying these words to them, the guards had released them already.
“Send them out of here. I don’t want to see them ever again.” I added before turning to leave. As I headed back to the house, I saw my mother watching from a distance.
I gulped hard and looked away to see the guard I had ordered to set up the computers, smiling widely at me.
“Why are you out here? Have you done what I asked you to do?” I asked coldly as I walked past him, heading back to the private room.
“Yes. They are all reconnected.” He answered.
“Good.”
“Erm… Alpha Charles.” He called, causing me to slightly look over my shoulder. “You did the right thing. I was scared you were going to kill them, but you proved that you’re nothing like late Alpha Darius.”
Clenching my jaws, I turned to look at him with a stern look. “Are you joking right now?”
“No, I’m not.” He answered happily.
“Who told you you could talk to me? Watch your damn mouth. I didn’t ask you to speak.”
He nodded almost immediately, his smile fading off instantly as he composed himself.
“Good.”
I walked into the private room and sat on the chair in front of the computers and they were still off.
“I thought you dealt with this? Why are they still off?!” I asked, this time, getting even angrier.
“I wanted to show you how to put them on. I’ll put them on now.” He hastily answered.
While I waited for him to do his thing, to my greatest surprise, I felt him lean closer to me from behind as he tried to reach a socket on the desk in front of me.
His head was slightly above my shoulder, and his chest was almost pressed against my back.
“What are you doing?”
“Putting them on.” He answered, his breath slowly tickling my neck. I gulped hard and kept my head high and stiff, while he did whatever he had to do.
Suddenly, all the computers came on, and I felt him withdraw from me.
“You didn’t watch me put them on.” He uttered, and I swallowed hard again.
“I know what you did. You can leave now.” I uttered, keeping my eyes fixed on the screen.
“Please call me if you need anything. I mean, if the computers act up. I’ll be outside the door. You just have to call my name, Caesar.”
“I don’t have to know your name before I can call you,” I responded, grabbing onto the mouse.
“No, you don’t, but I want you to.” He answered with a smile and headed out, leaving me speechless.
‘Where the hell did he get such courage from?’
