The blood moon

~Celine~

It’s been two days since my father killed Kilhan. I had locked myself in my room ever since. I refused to eat or talk to anyone except my son.

I’d hold him in my hand and cry for the house, apologizing to him for not helping his father before he got killed by his grandfather. He wasn’t even given a chance to know he had a son.

Sometimes, I’d dream about Kilhan holding me and Kendrick in his arms. Of course, it was only a dream.

I hated my father even more, and like before, I wanted to run away like I’ve always done. This was the height of it, and I didn’t want to be anywhere close to him.

“How do you think his mother is going to feel right now, Kendrick?” I muttered, staring at him as he slept peacefully in his cradle.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I carefully caressed Kendrick’s cheeks. I needed to do something. I needed to get Kendrick away from my father, but I wasn’t sure how.

I moved away from his cradle to the window and looked outside. The moon was slowly turning red, and something in me arose.

“You can still do whatever you want tonight, Celine. I mean, almost everyone in New Orleans would be busy today. You can sneak out.” Kiara uttered.

“Sneak out?? Do you even think it’s easy to sneak out now? I know my father very well, Kiara. I bet twenty guards are watching me right now.”

I looked down my window and just like I suspected, about five guards were looking up at my window.

“I can’t leave, Kiara! It’s going to be extremely difficult.”

“Well, you need help then. Or do you want to keep staying in a house that murdered your mate?”

“Ex-mate,” I mumbled.

“You know what I mean! You and I know that we don’t want Kendrick in this kind of place. You have to do whatever it takes to get this boy out of here.”

After listening to Kiara, I let out a loud sigh and slammed into my bed.

‘Where do I start from?’ I wondered, staring into space, and that was when I heard a rapid knock on my door. I furrowed my brows and turned to look at the door.

“Celine, open the door!” I heard Charles hurriedly say from behind my door.

“Charles?” I called, running to my door. “What are you…” I didn’t finish speaking when he stormed into my room and started looking around suspiciously.

“What… what is going on?” I asked in confusion, staring at him as I watched him lose it slowly.

“There is a camera and microphone in here. I need to find it before Darius returns to his private chamber.” He muttered, rushing to my table lamps to thoroughly check them.

“What? What are you saying?”

“I finally got into Darius’ private chamber yesterday, and guess what? There are more than ten computers there, showing him every corner of this house! And the craziest thing is, he can hear too!” He uttered as he ran his palm under the television.

“What? He’s been watching us the whole time?”

“And listening. That is why he’s always ahead of us.” He responded, abruptly stopping like he had touched something. His eyes slowly widened as he picked something up from under my television.

“Here. The microphone.” He uttered, showing me a small black foam.

“Oh, Goddess. That means he heard our conversation about helping Kilhan escape!” I retorted in terror.

“Everything. I bet that was why he asked for the key after you spoke to my mother.” He said and continued his search for the cameras and more microphones.

“But… but why would he…”

“Because he is one smart motherf**ker. He never lets anyone inside the private chamber, but I managed to get in there. I was there for less than a minute, and I was in awe.”

“So… he watches me when I dress too? Are there some in the bathroom?!” I further inquired in terror.

“I don’t know if he watches you dress up, and for the bathroom, I didn’t see one for it. Just different angles in your room. It’s the same with every room in this house.” He kept explaining as he kept fetching out the cameras.

“But wouldn’t he know you have found the cameras if he sees they are disconnected?”

“I won’t be disconnecting them. That would be stupid of me. I just came to show you where these cameras are planted. So you know how to act in your own room.”

“But what about the microphone?”

“I think he has only one in here. He can easily guess it stopped working. If he doesn’t notice any changes if he watches you. He’d have to come into your room to fix a new one. And I bet he wouldn’t just walk in and plant it when you’re in here.” He uttered.

I shook my head as I stared at my room. I couldn’t believe it, but it made sense now. How he was always ahead of us.

‘This is crazy!’

“How will I escape if he has his eyes on me every goddamn time?!”

“I don’t think he’s always in the chamber twenty-four hours a day, Celine. Right now, he’s having a meeting with some men, that’s why I ran down here to inform you. We just have to know when he won't be there for you to do whatever you want.”

“But how will…”

“I’ll help you. He killed Alpha Kilhan. I can’t imagine how horrible that is for you and your son. You deserve every chance to escape this man.” He uttered, and I nodded in agreement, tears heating my eyes again.

“Thank you so much, Charles,” I uttered, throwing my arms around him in a warm embrace.

‘Who would have thought my step-brother would be this nice to me?’

“Now this is what we’re going to do. I’ll collect your phone number now, and I’ll text you. Anytime he’s out of that chamber, I’ll let you know through text and you can do whatever you want.”

“So I can’t leave today anymore?”

“No. No, you can’t. It’s not safe out there. Once the blood moon is fully in the sky, the streets would go wild. You don’t want to put Kendrick in danger, do you?”

“No.” I shook my head.

“Good. Take your time. Let’s plan this out well. We are dealing with a smart man here. We need to be smart too.” He said, and I nodded.

“I have one question though. How would you watch him going and coming out of the chamber without being suspicious?” I asked, and he let out a soft smirk.

“I would just have to befriend one of his guards.”

“Befriend?? Like…”

“Yes. Exactly what you’re thinking.” He answered with a wink.

“You’re gay?!” I asked in shock, my eyes popping wide open.

“No, not gay. Bisexual.” He answered shyly, and I raised my eyebrows in awe.

“Oh wow. This is too much information for one night.” I muttered, holding my head in my hands.

“I should leave now. I don’t want Darius to see me in here.” He uttered, and I nodded.

“Kiss Kendrick good night for me, okay?? I’ll be in my room, doing whatever the hell I’m going to do.” He added, and I smiled faintly.

“Thank you so much,” I responded, staring at him as he headed out of my room.

After he was out, I looked around the room again. I was still very surprised by the information Charles told me.

All this while, I was being watched.

I walked to Kendrick’s cradle and picked him up. I carried him carefully in my arms and sat on the bed. He opened his eyes and looked at my face.

A wide smile lit up my face as I saw him smile heartily at me.

“Don’t worry, Kendrick. We’ll get out of here. Very soon. Very very soon.” I muttered, planting a kiss on his forehead.
