Chapter 64 DALIA
DALIA
When Sarah said that she wants to speak to me alone, I noticed the look on Lena's face. She's so good at hiding her expression so it was just a flicker of a second.
“Why do you want to speak to Dalia alone?” She asks. She is staring hard at Sarah as if giving her warning. Sarah gulps down and takes her eyes away as she puts her attention to me. I give her an assuring nod. She shouldn't be scared. Whatever it is, I'm here to help her.
“Maybe she feels more comfortable speaking to me.” I say to lena and turn to Ezekiel. “Can you give us a minute? Whatever it is, our goal is to get information from her, right?”
Ezekiel nods in understanding and gives me a kiss on the forehead. My eyes subconsciously flicker to Lena and the look in her eyes is so deadly. She's good at hiding her expression but not now. I can see it, she's jealous or something more than that? Or am I imagining it?
I'm confused. Is there something more to Lena that we don't know about? Ezekiel said that he has known her since she was a kid….. so it would be stupid of me to think that Lena is working with the witches. But then again, is there any explanation to her weird behavior. Yes, she has been working with us into finding out the truth but at some point, I wonder if she's pretending. But why will she be working with the witches? She has no reason to. Ezekiel treats her well, I've seen it myself. She has no reason to betray him. So that means I'm wrong. Lena can't be working with the witches. It just doesn't make any sense.
"Be careful okay,” Ezekiel whispers in my ear before leaving with Lena who glares at Sarah.
Once they are gone, I return my attention to Sarah. She looks disoriented. I can see in her eyes…fear, confusion. She stares at Samara while fidgeting.
“Sarah, you can speak to me now,” I say with an assuring tone. I want her to be comfortable even though I'm happy that she wants to open up to me.
“They will kill her.” She takes her eyes away from Samara and looks at me, fear still dancing in her eyes. “I don't know what they did to her. But I'm sure that if I speak they will kill her.”
I cover the distance between us, hold her shaking hands and compel her to stare into my eyes. “Listen Sarah, I'm here for you. I promise to protect you, Samara and Jerald. Don't let them instill fear in you and do the right thing which I knew that's what you have wanted to do.”
“How did you know?” She looks genuinely surprised.
“I felt it and I put the pieces together. I can't think of any other reason while they sent Annika to hurt you since you are one of them, if not that maybe you betrayed them.”
“I did. I cut off communication with them because I made my own decisions. Of course they noticed that my loyalty has shifted. Before I could tell Alpha Ezekiel the truth, Annika came for me.”
“Can I ask why you decided to betray your kind? I mean you were raised to hate the werewolves for whatever they did to your kind in the past.” Till now, I really don't know what caused the grudge between the werewolves and the witches. I don't know what happened that made the witches hate the werewolves and lycan to the extent of joining the devils.
“That's it. I was raised to hate them. I don't even know why I should hate them. They refused to tell me anything and expected me to do what they wanted. At first, I approached Jerald for that reason. I wanted to use him. Unfortunately I fell in love with him. I also fell in love with his kind. They are good people and they are good to me. I know that doing what my kind want will ruin Jerald and the people I love.”
“So, you decide to betray your kind?” I ask and she nods.
“I don't regret it. They didn't even show me half of the love I received among the werewolves and lycans. With my people I felt like an outsider and unloved. All they care about is what I can do for them and not what they can do for me. They use me at any point in time. I refused to be used by them and blindly followed them.”
“I'm happy that you made that decision, Sarah and I promise you won't regret it. If you help us, we can put an end to this.”
“To tell you the truth, I don't know much. All I know is that they have a book. A book that contains all the truth. They have never trusted me enough in the beginning to let me in their plan but I knew few of them. I knew that there is an Alpha that's working with them.
“An Alpha?”
“Yes, but I don't know who he is. These people are way too ahead of you guys. It won't be easy to bring them down. I know all these but I still decided to trust you because I believe in you. And I will also do everything to protect my family.”
An Alpha? Why will a werewolf betray his kind? The devils are gathering loyalty to themselves. I wonder what they promise them. Just like Sarah says, they are really ahead of us. We need to move fast. We will start by capturing that witch in the pack house. And we have to find that book. It is definitely the prophecy book that will hold answers to most of our questions.
“The witch here. Can you give me a sketch of what she looks like?”
“I will, but I won't promise you that she won't kill herself like Annika did before you can get anything from her.”
“We will have to try. We might be lucky.”
“Before that, I want to tell you something,” she says. I can see the way she gulps down and fear starts dancing in her eyes again. She glances as Samara as she fidget. I notice she does that whenever she's nervous. “Its about Lena.”
I knew it. Something was definitely going on. She was scared of Lena. It was obvious. I don't know if Ezekiel noticed it but I did. I wait patiently for her to say something but she's clearly nervous.
“I don't know if I'm sure that's why I want to tell only you.” She pauses and takes a deep breath. “I think Lena is working with the witches.”
