Chapter 62 DALIA
DALIA
I walk over to Samara but before I can touch her, Sarah stops me.
“Don't…. Please.” Her eyes glisten with tears as she pleads.
So I'm right. Something is wrong. Specifically with Samara.
“Why is she not awake?” I ask. My eyes are looking directly at hers.
“I don't know….” She stutters and then there's a twitch in her eyes which shows that she's lying. I notice that it happens whenever she lies.
I sigh and take her hand. She flinches and wants to move away but I hold her tight. She's scared of something and I want to assure her that she shouldn't be scared of anything. She should open up to us because we are the only ones that can help her.
“Lisyen Sarah, I don't think you have a choice here. You, your daughter and your husband are here with us. If you don't give us what we want, do you think we will have any reason to keep you guys alive?”
“Believe me. I don't know anything,” she mutters.
“You know something. I know you do,” I cut in. “I will give you time to make up your mind. I know you are scared of something. If you tell me what it is, I promise to help you.”
For a second it looks like she wants to speak up but she clamps her mouth shut. This makes me wonder what she's so scared of. Just then Ezekiel re-enters the room. He left the room a while ago but I stayed back. I cast him a glance. He raises his brows but I shake my head indicating that she still refuses to speak up.
“Are you being threatened by someone?” I ask. The way her eyes widened a bit and the way she flinched shows that I'm right. And I feel like she's being threatened by a witch. But how possible could that be? There's no witch here or maybe there is.“By who.”
She suddenly breaks down in tears as she falls on her knees. I squat before her and hold her chin up to look at me. Tears fell down her cheeks and that fear was still there in her eyes.
“Is there a witch here?” I ask. Because that's the only thing that fucking makes she's here. If I am right about Sarah betraying her people, it means they came back for her. They definitely know that she's here and they will do everything to make sure she doesn't speak the truth she knows.
She's about to say something but stop as her eyes flicker to the door. She gulps down as fear dances in her eyes. I quickly look at the door, but there's no one there. Did she see something there?
“Can you check the hallway,” I say to Ezekiel. He nods and walks away. When he leaves I turn my attention back to Sarah.
“Yes…” she abruptly said.
“Huh?”
“A witch is here. Right under your nose.”
What! How did she sneak in?
“Who is she?”
“It doesn't matter. Even if I tell you, it still doesn't matter.” She blurts out. “You won't win this war.”
“I will, and I need your cooperation.”
“There's nothing I can give you. Even if you find the witch that's currently here and kill her. It still won't stop them from doing what they want. They will never rest until they achieve their goal.
She's right, but if they won't give up, I won't give up either. She's about to say something but Ezekiel enters the room. “No one is there.”
“Someone was there.” She cuts in.
“Who?”
She bites her lower lips as she murmurs “My daughter will die if I say anything.”
“And you think that she will live if you refuse to speak?” Ezekiel snaps. I'm sure his patience is running thin. I really hope he stays put while I handle this. We need Sarah to tell us what she knows. Killing her won't do us any good.
“Is that why she's not waking up?” I ask, looking directly at Sarah.
“Yes. They will kill her if I say anything. One of them is already here. My daughter's life is in danger.”
I look at Ezekiel. He's as confused as me. How did another witch sneak into his pack? He tightened the security. Or maybe….
“Did the witch take another person's form?” I ask the first question that comes to my mind. Ezekiel nods, looking at Sarah for her reply. Guess he was thinking the same thing as me.
“No. She came in her form which makes me wonder how she entered the pack. This is why I'm scared. If they can enter the Alpha king's pack with ease, I wonder what else they will do. But one thing I know is that they are ahead of you guys. They know your every plan while you don't know theirs.”
She's right.
“That's why we need your cooperation.”
“There's nothing I can do for you.”
“There's something you can do. You can tell me what their plan is and how far they have gone. You can as well start by telling us who the witch in this pack is.”
She's quiet for a while as she looks at Samara. I can see the conflicted look in her eyes. And fear too. “I will tell you who the witch is, only if you can bring Samara to consciousness and promise me that you will protect Jerald.”
“You don't have the right to negotiate!” Ezekiel snaps. I'm sure he hates the way I'm handling the situation. He wants to do it his own way but the problem is that his own way will make things worse.
“I promise.”
“Dalia!”
I turn to Ezekiel as I whisper. “I'm handling this, Ezekiel. Please let me.”
Before he can speak I turn to Sarah and say, “We will do what you want but first of all, you will tell us who the witch is.”
“Samara is still unconscious.”
“I will bring her to consciousness.” I cut in. “But you will have to tell me the spell that was used on her.”
“Will you do it? Breaking the spell could be dangerous. Even I can't break it. I want to trust you can do it since you were able to break the spell Annika placed on me.”
“I can do it.”
“No you can't.” Ezekiel is already furious.
Gosh! He's making things harder. I should have had this conversation with Sarah without him present.
Things have become serious and this is not the time to consider the risk.
“The witch, she's closer than you think,” Sarah says. Just then Lena walks in. I don't know if I imagined it, but I think I saw a flicker of fear in Sarah's eyes the moment she looked at Lena.
