Chapter 47 - Alpha Daniel

(This part happened before and during Ben being back at the pack)

I’m going to be completely honest, me driving a car, let alone Ben’s Jeep…. It was scary when I walked around to the driver’s seat, hoisting myself up and looking around, feeling the presence of my mate disappearing. That still was the worst.

We hadn’t been apart for a second since he marked me. Now that he was leaving, it was leaving me empty in a way that was so much more awful than I ever imagined it would be, pure darkness spreading around my limbs where I was sitting and just trying to figure out if I even remembered how to drive…. I like walking, and I never had the funds to get a car, even if I had taken my driver’s license last year…. Before all this…. I made a purr seeing the babies awake. They could feel me. They needed me more than anything, the most important part of my life except my mate.

“Alright, my sweethearts…. let’s just try to do this….” I was looking over everything… yeah so I could do this…right? Even a monkey could…in theory…. The face back into the rear-view mirror made me gasp when I saw the blackness swirling, just a tiny glimpse, but there it was, my beast.

My hands were still on the steering wheel when I couldn’t keep my eyes away from the small mirror, and I had never seen anything like that, not in myself. I mean, only Ben and his beast didn’t look anything like that, or maybe feel was a more correct way to describe it….

She was beautiful.

Dark and on edge, she was more proud than I had ever been when she made a smile, and I could feel myself wanting to smile back. This was amazing… a part of me that was somehow there, and I didn’t even know how to get to it… I wanted to see more of her, but I needed to get going, it was getting darker, and I had promised Ben that I was going to make it back to his mother’s part of the pack, the same pack that I was supposed to be the Beta over…... still felt bad about that part… they all seemed so sad and … I don’t know… not happy?

The Alpha is a complete narcissist, and the Luna… oh god…. I sighed, looking back at my babies… she wanted them, and there was no way around it. My beast told me that even if she was good and wanted to be kind, she wasn’t. Plain and simple.

I tried staring at the car, it was old, and it suited Ben, making me smile more thinking of him even if he left me there. He was so torn about what was happening, he wanted to be a great mate, and he was… but I could feel it too… the pack bond…. That part was making me mad. Why did he have to do everything when nobody ever thanked him for doing it, especially that arrogant bastard that was supposed to be there as a leader? Did it make no sense?

“Alright, sweethearts, let’s go see that granny of yours….” I loved that I could say that when the car finally started and I made small movements, failing at least twice when the Jeep began to roll out onto the small dirt road I had been standing on when people from the pack called Ben back, he didn’t get that part. Still, he was a great leader, more than the Alpha, at least from where I was standing.

“You good, Mills?” I made a small laugh, hearing Ben in my head when I was driving down the road slowly; I was fine, and he worried too much. I knew that I hadn’t been going that much, but come it was an empty road in the middle of nowhere, and he was getting worked up over me being alone. I wasn’t alone when I had my babies along.

“Yes, I’m fine, Ben… stop worrying….” He didn’t understand that I couldn’t hear the links he was sending me sometimes, but this one was loud and clear, keep going and stay safe. I made a face at myself like that wasn’t exactly what I had been doing all my life. I was careful, and he was too worried.

“I can’t, it’s my job…” he made a stale joke back that I snickered at, failing at shifting gear and making the car chough giving me a slight heart attack that he felt. I didn’t want him to, I had this, and he needed to get back to the pack. I understood more than I think he did.

“Milly, I’m turning back right now and…!” Ben was serious when I made a slight whine. No, he didn’t need that. I missed him, but I had made my way my whole life; this was nothing. I wasn’t used to people saving me, no matter if they were my beast mate that I had no idea existed just six months ago or not.

“No, you go and take care of that… business…” he made a sigh. He so did I… this was still wearing me out, torn between wanting to get out and having a pack bone that was affecting me too, just not as much as Ben. I still couldn’t believe that he had the strength to break it when we were leaving, it was hard, and I was struggling against it right now, like him.

“You’re a good mate, sweetheart…” Ben was pushing over that he loved me when I smiled even more alone in the dark Jeep, the roof over our heads when I pushed back. I loved him too, my beast mate.

“Okay…. Ben, relax. I’m already at a crossroads and need to concentrate if I don’t want to drive the whole car along with our babies, okay?” I used that sweet voice when he didn’t like me doing that. He always listened when I did, and I don’t know if it was because he loved me or I had discovered something about our mate bond he didn’t want me to know, still I was soo using it if he didn’t have to worry about me all the time.

“Fine, but you call me when you get there, and oh, don’t forget that I want to be there when you shift the first time, okay, sweetheart?” I made a slight shiver hearing that, the tone dropping, his beast speaking to mine just as much as he was Ben to Milly, oh I wouldn’t let him miss it for the whole world….

My hands still shook when he closed the link, knowing that we were getting too far away for me to get what he was saying. I could feel it, and he didn’t even need to tell me that.

The crossroad parted when I turned right, seeing my phone, Ben already putting inside the coordinates with some struggle making me laugh. He didn’t use phones that much, and I could tell, making me snort at his cluelessness… it was so cute… him being this big bad beast. He could barely work a phone, like my inability to drive, and still where we’re trying out best, unlike the Alpha and Luna of this pack.

There I said it, they sucked, and that was it.

The sounds of my Kai made me glance back. I hadn’t been driving that long, but my instinct told me that I needed to go to him; he needed me, and there was no way around it. I stopped by a small rest place and climbed back slowly, trying not to wake up the other two when the small boy latched onto me. He was so beautiful… he was, and I could stare at them all for the rest of my life when I was stroking his tiny head, holding him against my naked body, not even caring if anyone would see me, let them see me, my eyes were swirling with black, purring when the small boy was nuzzling in closer, the small hand gripping mine when I was sniffling, I didn’t even know that I could be this happy, just seeing them was making me want to stay here forever, the only part that was missing was my mate, I hope that he would come soon.

My heart went cold when I climbed to the front again, kissing my small babies and thanking whoever was listening that I had them.

Sounds of howls were heard in the distance, and I didn’t feel safe this time. No, this was nothing like at the gas station, those beasts didn’t want to hurt me, but these did!

My hands shook even more when I was turning the key around hard, the Jeep giving me nothing but coughing when I made curses, feeling my heart rate going up. This was not good! Those beasts were coming closer, and I could feel them! Every heartbeat and heavy body that was tussling to get to me and, most importantly, my pups first!

“Benjamin!?” I know that I was trying to get him back when he couldn’t hear me, couldn’t. It was making me want to panic more when the Jeep finally caved in and started when I was grinding my teeth. I was not giving up on some beast coming after me and my babies!

I didn’t understand anything when I made a slight sound seeing the first beast emerging out of the dark woods; it was brown and looked dirty, like it had been roaming around and just waiting on me to come around, my feet pushing the gas pedal harder when the two other came after him, slightly smaller and growling, teeth gleaming in the slight moonlight that was out and both snapping their heads when they saw the car.

Oh.

Pack beast, and there was no way around it, not my pack, someone and they were obviously on a mission, and I had no idea if I was just unlucky or if this was a bigger plan that I had no clue what it was about, probably was a beast thing. I grunted when the three big beasts ran behind me, trying to catch up, and I sure wasn’t going to let them!

“Ben, where the hell are you when I need you!?” I knew it was no use but then again, what else could I do? I knew my mate wasn’t having a phone since he had shifted. Where would he put it?! No, it was still here in the glove box and making me even more pissed off, feeling the car speeding in the otherwise dark, calm woods, the only sounds being the snarls and thumps of paws after me and what I had, the only thing they would have to kill me over, my pups.

The Jeep made another chough when I was getting even more frustrated, it was giving up on me, and I knew it, I mean, it was old, and it wasn’t meant to be pushed like this. I bet I had made some mistakes too, but you know what? Screw this old Jeep! I wasn’t going to let anyone hunt me down! My heart rate rose when I made a slight turn, sliding by mistake when the Jeep stopped, and I missed a three with just a few feet. Great work, Milly, super!

The beast was coming closer when I made my way outside, still in the forest, but I could see, and I knew my beast was back. I trusted her. No matter what, I needed her. I knew that Ben would understand when I closed my eyes and stood up between the burned-out Jeep and me still having my pups feeling my body staring to convulse, eyes going black when the darkness was taking over my mind, words disappearing. My sense was going on full alert. I needed to win this!
