Chapter 49 Celeste

Chapter 49 Celeste
Celeste's POV

I went to meet Alpha Yon and Alpha Greg. They are the leaders of a rogue assassin group.

Actually, there are more than three rogue assassin groups, but only three are known to the public.

These rogue assassin groups are unknown to the public and known only to a select few. They carry out forbidden work, completely different from what my group and the two Alphas do.

Our group offers assassination services. That is the only cruel act we commit for money.

Because we're rogue assassins, we know safe and hidden places where no one will track us, especially the groups who insist on finding us.

I was dressed in formal black, but I wasn't wearing a mask to cover my face. The sunglasses were necessary to prevent the two men from reading my thoughts.

We rented a motel room a hundred feet from the wild forest. Oh my gosh. People would think I had called those two men to have fun with me.

I don't know why Alpha Yon chose that place. It wasn't crowded, but our faces were seen by several people, though they didn't care because we were wearing perfume to disguise our scent. Otherwise, they would know we were Alphas and would then try to find out where we came from.

Ugh, seriously, that sucks.

“Sitting on the floor?” Alpha Greg stared at the room with a confused expression.

There was no sofa or chairs. Just a king-size bed and a bathroom. This room was really only rented for sleeping.

No. My cheeks didn't flush. Why should I blush? I was not interested in either of those men, and vice versa. Besides, they already had mates and children.

As Alphas within a rogue assassin group, betraying our mates is impossible. They would know it immediately, and our members would never tolerate such an act.

“Yes, we’ll sit on the floor.” Alpha Yon nodded casually. “As you can see, there are no chairs or sofas.” He spread his arms and looked around with a wide grin.

“Come on, sit down. My members have already swept and mopped this floor.” Alpha Yon sat proudly, as if his idea were brilliant, ignoring the annoyed looks on Alpha Greg and me.

We had no choice but to sit on the floor. I didn't know Alpha Yon didn't ask his members to get a rug for us.

“Let’s not make small talk,” Alpha Yon began the discussion. Yeah, we don’t like to talk about unimportant things.

"Am I the only one who's thrilled to see dozens of people searching for us?" Alpha Yon said with a look of pure delight.

"You're not the only one." Alpha Greg nodded twice, arms folded across his chest. "I'm thrilled too. I wonder if they'll find any of us, even though that's unlikely." He grinned.

These two men were insane. Their adrenaline was pumping. They didn't feel anxious at all.

It made me wonder how Benedict would react. Would he calm in response to people searching for our group’s whereabouts?

"I'm neither happy nor anxious, I'm just wondering why they're looking for us," I said.

"They know they won't find us, and we can kill them easily without leaving a trace or a single witness," I added.

My words sounded very much like a ruthless Alpha who takes pleasure in watching the ground soak up blood.

Alpha Yon and Alpha Greg smiled broadly, nodding their heads in agreement with me. They were quite surprised I could utter those words.

"They're fools," Alpha Greg scoffed at those who were eager to show off to the public that they had managed to find us one day.

"By deciding to seek us out, it means they're ready to die." Alpha Greg chuckled evilly at the image in his head. "If our patience runs out, or we simply want to kill them, our assassins will do it quickly and neatly."

“Honestly, I wanted to kill one or two of them to show them that their deaths were in our hands, but I didn’t because they would think that what they were doing was making us restless,” Alpha Yon said.

"That's the same as us declaring them victorious, and that will be used as our weakness." Alpha Yon shook his head sternly.

"I agree with you," I told him. "I don't want them to be happy that we're aware of what they're doing. That would only make them even more eager to find us."

The two men nodded.

"Because we ignore them, allowing them to do whatever they're doing, they'll eventually get annoyed and decide to stop," Alpha Greg said.

“Mm, it seems we’re on the same page,” Alpha Yon said, nodding twice in satisfaction. “There’s no reason to fight. This is something we must preserve for the sake of peace.”

"Let's not fight, because seriously, I don't know where we'll fight; there's no place we can turn into a battlefield without drawing attention," Alpha Greg said with a frown. He really thought about it.

"For centuries, we've never fought over clients or envied each other. I believe our relationship will continue just as it is," I said.

Benedict once warned me that maintaining good relations with the other rogue assassin groups was essential. No one would gain anything from conflict; we would only lose.

“You’re right,” Alpha Greg nodded. “May we never be tempted to attack one another and cause our relationship to deteriorate.”

“We’re better off like this.” Alpha Yon unwrapped the potato chips and offered them to Alpha Greg and me. “We’re neither friends nor enemies.”

Yeah, that's how our group relationship is.

“Okay, I’ll conclude our conversation.” Alpha Greg cleared his throat after swallowing some chips. “We didn’t do anything to stop them because we were confident they wouldn’t find us.”

“We're just beefing up the security of our base and making sure we don't leave any clues that will lead them to us,” I said.

"We also have to make sure they capture none of our members," said Alpha Yon. "They may be well-trained, but misfortune and bad luck can happen to them."

Alpha Greg and I agreed with that. We always remind our members to be careful when carrying out missions.

Our discussion ended peacefully. It was a relief, but I was right to assume that Alpha Yon would bring up Alpha Eiden.

“I wanted to ask you something personal,” Alpha Yon said, his gaze fixed on me. “Did you have any past connection with Alpha Eiden of the River Dectagon Pack?”

“Oh, I was thinking the same thing.” Alpha Greg was curious about that, too. Both men looked at me curiously.

"Why do you want to know that?" I snorted in annoyance. "Are you going to sell that information to his enemies?" My words indirectly confirmed their assumption.

"No," Alpha Greg replied without thinking. "Don't worry." He waved his hand. "Didn't we promise not to sell each other's information to anyone else?"

That's absolutely true. A promise we've made for hundreds of years, and we'll never break it.

“A promise we would sin by breaking, because our ancestors bound it with their blood,” Alpha Yon said, reminding us how sacred it truly was.

“I want to tell you, don’t be afraid of Alpha Jackson. Be afraid of Alpha Lucas.” Alpha Yon looked at me seriously, desperately wanting me to remember. “Alpha Lucas is two-faced.”

“Thank you so much for telling me that,” I said.

I think Alpha Eiden knows Alpha Lucas's nature because I couldn't possibly tell him about it as if I knew Alpha Lucas.

Alpha Eiden hasn't contacted me to ask about Liam for the past two days. I didn't know what had gotten into him.

A strange thought suddenly crossed my mind. Why was I so worried about whether he would be able to sleep for the past two days? I didn't care about him, really.
