Chapter 31 Celeste

Chapter 31 Celeste
Celeste's POV

When I turned on the television, the first thing I saw was the news of a man's tragic death.

He’d been appointed as a deputy director by his father two months ago, but ironically, his own father wanted him dead.

He died at the hands of my men last night.

I agreed to everything Mr. Anderson asked. The head warrior sent five assassins to eliminate five targets in different locations. They got back to the base before sunrise—unharmed and without leaving a single trace.

The families and loved ones of the five people my men killed were grieving.

Meanwhile, the men in this group were celebrating the assassins’ successful mission by eating goat satay.

We earned enough money to support ourselves for six months.

“I still don’t understand why Mr. Anderson asked us to kill his third son.”

I did not agree with Mr. Anderson's request for us to kill his son, but Beta Dylan convinced me that his son deserved to die after we learned the full story of his life.

“I really want Mr. Anderson to feel deep remorse after he sees his son’s body.”

I don't know why so many parents want their children dead, and there are also quite a few cases of children killing their parents.

"Don't they love their children? Don't they love their parents? Can hatred cloud those feelings?"

I shook my head. Since yesterday, I've been reminding myself not to kill people, even if I hate them so much.

I did. I didn't kill the four men who released the tiger that killed Benedict.

I turned off the television, touching my chest, feeling incredibly guilty every time I heard about the assassins successfully completing their mission.

I leaned back weakly. Should I change my morning routine when I start work?

I took a deep breath and tried hard to push away the unpleasant feelings.

I smiled because I was about to take Liam to his kindergarten.

“Alpha.”

“Come in.” I looked at the door and saw Beta Dylan enter my office.

“I have important and urgent news from our agent,” he said, placing a chair in front of my desk and sitting down.

"What is it?" I felt the tension of waiting for him to tell me what he wanted to say. It must be about our group, since he didn't have any files with him.

“Alpha Jackson received news from two of his warrior spies that you, Liam, and Levi are staying at Alpha Eiden’s house.” Beta Dylan’s words were like a hammer hitting my heart hard.

"They didn't see your faces, but they took your photos, and our agents made sure your faces weren't clearly visible," he added. "They can find you with those photos, especially since they know you're rogues."

How is that possible? Alpha Eiden had already made sure no one would detect our presence in his house.

"Alpha Eiden captured those two warrior spies before his wolf fought Alpha Jackson's wolf," he said, his face growing serious. "Alpha Eiden certainly knows they know about you."

I wondered if Alpha Eiden would tell me about this. All he knew was that I was a civilian.

“You only stayed there for a day and a night, but your presence was already discovered by one of his enemies.” Beta Dylan shook his head, disappointment clearly visible on his face.

I didn’t know what to say that wouldn’t further ruin Beta Dylan’s mood. At the time, he didn’t approve of my two sons and me staying at Alpha Eiden’s house.

Beta Dylan was terrified that people would discover that we were using fake documents. That would lead them to reveal who we really were.

Overthinking is bad, but it can also keep us from things we don’t want.

“Mommy. I’m already wearing my school uniform!” Liam shouted from outside my office.

I flinched slightly as Beta Dylan sighed and stared deeply at me, as if hypnotizing me. “We’ll talk more about this tomorrow.” I nodded. “Be careful.”

Beta Dylan said as he walked toward the door. “Alpha Jackson isn’t looking for you and your two sons right now, but you never know when he’ll change his mind.”

“I understand.” I closed my eyes and massaged my scalp.

Liam and Alpha Eiden have become quite close. Although Liam was shy about showing it, I know he enjoyed everything his biological father did, especially after their video call.

I was getting ready to take Liam to school.

Seeing Liam made me sad. I wonder how he would react when he found out we would most likely not be staying at Alpha Eiden's house anymore. Beta Dylan would definitely forbid it, and everyone would agree with him.

My eyes widened when I read Alpha Eiden's message. Oh my gosh. I forgot he was coming to Liam's school and taking my two sons to the arcade.

I tried to calm myself when Liam realized I had something on my mind.

"Mommy." Liam gripped my hand. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, my dear." I smiled as I stroked his blond hair. Levi looked at me worriedly. Their concern touched me.

We were on our way to Liam’s kindergarten at a moderate pace. The heavy rain last night had made the ground soft.

Liam got out of the car happily because his classmates arrived at the same time as him. They headed to class while chatting. They were so cute.

“Yeah, let’s play in the lake.” Levi was delighted when the driver turned the car around to take us to the lake. Levi wasn’t so crazy about the playground slide anymore since our house had one.

“Hey, good morning, you two.” Alpha Eiden waved to us. He was sitting on a rock near the lake, where we used to sit.

“Good morning.” Levi waved. I was glad he didn’t call out to Alpha Eiden.

Levi ran toward the ranger, and I warned him to be careful if he didn’t want to fall into the lake.

I smiled broadly at Alpha Eiden. Then we sat down next to each other.

"Aren't you sad not to greet Liam?" I asked.

"Yeah, I am." Alpha Eiden nodded, his eyes reflecting his feelings. He smiled at me and said comfortingly, "It's okay. We'll spend time together later."

He didn't ask if Liam was looking for him, and I chose not to tell him that Liam had been secretly staring at this forest as we passed by.

I gave him the photo album of Liam from birth to one month old. Thankfully, Alpha Eiden didn’t ask about my delivery or everything I went through while adjusting to being a new mom.

"You've raised your two sons to be such smart kids," Alpha Eiden said, his gray eyes boring into mine. "You're so patient with them. I'm already overwhelmed by them." He chuckled.

I blushed. I don't know how many times Alpha Eiden had praised my role as a mother to my children.

“You’ve been very kind to them.” I also wanted to praise him, letting him know that all his hard work wasn’t in vain. “You don’t make them afraid of you anymore.”

“I made a bad first impression with them, huh?” Alpha Eiden grimaced, scratching his head.

'He doesn’t even realize he always makes a bad first impression with you.' My wolf snorted. She still couldn't forget the rejection I got from Alpha Eiden years ago.
