Chapter 77: Chapter Seventy-Six

Delanie POV

Eight Months later

“Okay, Delanie, can you regenerate this plant? I took it from my garden it’s been in the sun for days,” Laura handed me a shrivelled plant in a red pot.

Laura had been my trainer for months now. Thanks to her my magic had grown massively and so had my belly. Ajax’s baby was growing bigger and bigger every week but I think he was ready to come out not just because I was ready to give birth but because my due date was in two weeks.

Shania said she was already in position for the big day.  She confirmed we were having a girl. We had a pink and purple nursery ready to go in the house we hadn’t moved into yet. I’d been too tired to pack anything. Ajax was suspiciously busy lately.

He has been getting calls that he won’t take in front of me and has to leave suddenly and his excuse was he had to make sure everything was okay at our new house. If he told me he was doing Alpha General duties then I might have believed him.

Oscar was still injured at this point everyone had lost hope of him walking again. The healers all said the same thing if he hadn’t been injured in wolf form then he would have been fine. He wasn’t strong enough to recover from this alone and our healers weren’t strong enough to bring his wolf back from this.

Reign had been acting Alpha this entire time. I would have thought she would kick us out or try to get with Ajax again… but she’s been so focused on running the pack. Shania told me about Reign’s plans to extend the clinic and bring in high-tech equipment. Even Ajax was surprised with the turnaround. I guess all Reign really needed was something to do to keep her busy.

Anyway, I took the pot in my hands and concentrated on the plant. I did it just like Laura taught me. I was in control of the magic if I was calm then my magic would be calm. I thought about greenery and health. Power flowed from my fingertips into the pot like an open tap.

“Wonderful! It looks even better than before it wilted. Nice job, Del!”

I gave her a watery smile. I think I used too much power there. I felt lightheaded.

“You okay?” Laura asked.

“Fine, I think I used too much magic.”

“Oh, I think this should be our last session until you have the baby.”

Laura was a few years older than me. She wasn’t from this pack she was actually from a tribe pack. Ajax called in a favour and I was thankful because after the incident at the hospital all those months ago I was terrified of what I might do.

Speaking of the incident, that wasn’t the last we’d seen of Rebecca she’d come by dozens of times but her partner refused to set foot in the pack, and I wondered why. Over the last three months, things with Rebecca had been quiet.

Ajax kept me out of the loop most time because of the baby. He treated me like an egg. I couldn’t wait to give birth so he could obsess over his daughter instead.

I walked Laura to the door at the same time Ajax walked in. His eyes went wide when he saw me. Did he forget I lived here?

“Hey… uh… done with the session?” he asked.

Laura nodded. “Yes, it’s the last session until she gives birth.”

“Wait, did something happen?”

I groaned and shook my head.

Laura chuckled. “No, magic takes a lot of energy and she needs her strength. See you around, Delanie.”

When Laura was gone Ajax got on one knee and kissed my belly. I felt her move. She knew her Dad was around. I felt Ajax differently through her it was surreal a part of me didn’t like that I’d lose that connection to Ajax after I gave birth.

“Let’s get you two to bed,” he said, warmly.

I didn’t protest. I propped up a pillow and lay on the bed. Ajax sat on the edge and picked up my swollen feet.

“What did you get up to?” I asked.

“Uh… stuff,” he replied.

“Stuff? That’s the best you can come up with?”

He chuckled. “I’m out of ideas.”

“You mean out of lies. You’ve been keeping things from me for months.”

“Come on, babe, like what?”

I raised a brow. “Rebecca for one.”

He clenched his jaw. “Rebecca wanted money I gave it to her and she left.”

“What?” I exclaimed. “You gave her month and you didn’t tell me? I’m your fiancée.”

He squeezed my feet. “I’m trying to protect you Delanie and our baby. You didn’t need the stress.”

“Are you sure she won’t be back?” I asked.

“I can’t be sure, especially if she was working with Decker.”

“Is that all Ajax?”

He sighed, got up and settled beside me on the bed. He draped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me close.

“There’s more but I can only tell you when you have the baby.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t want you to go into early labour!” He laughed.

“Oh, I don’t mind. I’m exhausted.”

He leaned in and kissed my nose and then kissed my lips.

“Hold on babe. We have to move remember? Ross’s bugging me to move out already.”

“So you’re really giving him the house?” I beamed.

He groaned. “Yeah, that’s what best friends are for and I guess I’m his best friend.”

Ross and Ainsley’s relationship had bloomed into a beautiful healthy flower. They should just buy a big house because soon they’ll be welcoming their own baby then my and Ainsley’s kids will be friends.

It’s something we’ve already decided on our children’s behalves.

“Can you at least tell me what it’s about? Is it serious?”

He held me tightly. “It’s about your parents. Your Dad to be exact.”

“He’s dead,” I said matter-of-factly.

“Delanie—” the doorbell cut him off.

“Those must be the movers.”

“Wait, I haven’t packed a thing.”

He barked out a laugh. “That’s why I’m paying them to do it. Relax mate. They’ll handle everything.”

He slipped out of the room. While I was glad he was taking care of the moving now I had demanding questions that needed answers.

My Dad wasn’t part of a good gang. They were frowned upon. I wasn’t proud of that and that’s why I didn’t like to think about him much. Such complications had to come with enemies as bad as General Maximus. I was tired of paying for my parent's mistakes.

Ajax must let the dead remain dead.
