Chapter 76: Chapter Seventy-Five

“Isn’t that my food, Delanie?” Ajax watched me with a grin.

“Tell that to your baby.”

“I was thinking we’re going to need a bigger house,” he said.

I set the plastic fork aside and grabbed his bottled water. “Why?”

“The baby’s going to need his own room and the guest room’s small. We need a bigger back yard too. I hope you know we’re not stopping at one baby.”

Heat spread across my nose. “I know.”

“I think we should start looking for houses. Somewhere private but large enough for the kids and dogs.”

“And Goby,” I blushed.

“Yes and the chicken who insists on waking me up before dawn.”

I giggled. “Okay fine. I can’t wait to go house hunting.”

I haven’t thought about baby shopping either. I didn’t know where to start there was so much to do.

The door opened forcefully and slammed against the wall. I jumped and Ajax sat up instantly.

“You cannot go in there!” Shaina scowled.

“You can’t tell me what to do,” Rebecca barked back.

I stood abandoning my food and rounded Ajax’s bed so I stood in front of him. Rebecca could be wearing her magical potion to steal Ajax from me. I applied the stuff Shaina gave me on Ajax while he was asleep and took some for myself.

“Shaina’s the doctor, yes she can. I’m Ajax’s fiancée and I say he’s not taking visitors,” I raised my chin.

Rebecca stepped forward and folded her arms. “Ajax and I have a deal and you’re not coming between that deal.”

I stepped forward causing Rebecca to take a step back. Shaina watched us with caution while Ajax hadn’t said a word but I felt his heated stare on my back.

“I don’t care about your deal. Out. We have to talk.”

Rebecca opened her mouth to protest but I grabbed her shoulder and led her out. Shaina closed the door behind us. Knowing Ajax had supernatural hearing I took Rebecca out to the courtyard. Shaina wasn’t far. I took a moment to appreciate friends who always had my back. It made the daunting task of baby shopping feel small now then I snapped back to reality there was a potentially dangerous she-wolf in front of me and I didn’t have a wolf to defend myself.

“You’ve got bigger balls than I gave you credit for,” Rebecca said.

I rolled my eyes. “I saw you with Decker. Why do you want to make Ajax forget my scent?” I demanded.

Heat rushed to her cheeks. “I didn’t… how did you… I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Cut the crap. I was there at the gas station. If you really cared about your sister, then why are you attacking the man she loved?”

Rebecca’s brows formed a nasty frown. She marched passed me and threw her arms in the air.

“I loved my sister! She was my world and she was killed because of him! That man laying helpless in a hospital bed. I don’t owe him anything. I want my money and more. I have nothing to lose because Ajax took it all from me.”

“Well I have everything to do lose, Rebecca. You won’t come near anything I love. That’s a promise.”

Heat consumed my right palm. Before I could comprehend what was going heat turned to ice and shot out of the centre of my hand. Fearing I would hit someone I aimed my hand at the ground. Rebecca screamed and jumped out of the way. The icy blue blast cracked the concrete floor.

The crack continued up to the wall. How do I stop this? The ground beneath my feet shook and panic rose from my gut.

“Delanie!” Ajax yelled.

“I can’t stop!”

He stood on the doorway watching me with horror.

“Calm down, sweetheart. Everything’s fine. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”

How do I calm down when razor sharp ice is coming out of my tiny palm and destroying the hospital courtyard? Ajax cautiously came up behind me and wrapped me in his arms. The fear of hitting him again crippled me and the ice suddenly stopped.

I dropped but Ajax held me up.

“Easy, there baby. You’re okay.”

I felt like I’d run a marathon and there was no one there to hand me water along the run. Aside from the huge crack in the floor and on the wall half of the floor had been transformed into an ice rink.

“What have I done?” I whispered.

“It’s okay,” Ajax smoothed my hair and kissed my cheek.

“What… what the hell was that?” Rebecca yelled.

“I… I’m sorry,” I started but she threw her arms in the air and cut me off.

“What are you? You’re a freak.”

“Hey! My mate’s not a freak. She only reacted that way because you did something to her,” Ajax barked.

“Me?! She practically threatened me. If I wasn’t fast, I would be an ice sculpture.”

“Delanie, are you okay?” Shaina and Betty came rushing in.

Betty had a first aid kit in her arms.

“I’m fine. Lightheaded maybe… I’m so sorry. I couldn’t control it.”

“It was incredible. When did you learn to do that!” Betty beamed with wide eyes.

“It was not incredible! This girl needs to be put on a leash before she hurts someone!” Rebecca hiked up her bag and marched out of the courtyard.

Shaina examined my eyes and took my blood pressure. “Don’t mind her. You need fluids.”

Ajax picked me up and took me to his room where I had no choice but to receive fluids. The roles were reversed now. I was laying on the bed with a needle in my arm while Ajax was on the waiting chair looking after me.

“How do I get rid of these powers? They’re dangerous!” I said.

“You just need to learn to control them. All powers are dangerous even shifter abilities.”

“Can Rebecca get me locked up? Growing up I never heard of many people with magical powers.”

Ajax ran a hand down his face. “Don’t listen to her. What did she say that got you upset?”

I explained the whole situation and overhearing her conversation with Decker at the gas station. He wasn’t happy about the situation but he was more concerned with my wild powers. They’d come in handy when it was necessary but now they were causing a problem what if it’s at an event next time with hundreds of people?

“We’ll find you someone to teach you to control your powers. I’ve never been more tired of this place,” he grumbled.

I smiled. “Yeah, I miss home.”

“I think Shaina’s just keeping us here to increase the bill.”

I giggled. “This place doesn’t get funding she’s doing what she has to do.”

He pulled me close and pressed his lips against mine.

“I love you, baby and our baby.”

He placed his hand on my belly and I felt the connection between the two of them again. It was something special and sacred.
