Chapter 115: The Gap Between Them Is Growing Wider
There were also a few from Nolan.
Anne didn't bother calling back; she just blocked both numbers.
Meanwhile, in the president's office...
Beck Phillips was giving a rundown of work and upcoming travel plans.
George had assigned Beck to help out Dorian.
Even though Dorian hadn't officially graduated from Celestial University yet, he was already running a company and needed an assistant.
"Mr. Windsor, we've set up a meeting with the project partners. We're flying to Silverpeak City this afternoon to check out the project for a month."
"That's too long. Make it a week," Dorian cut in.
Beck looked a bit stressed. It was a tough ask, but he didn't argue and just went ahead to adjust the plans with the partners.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
Rhea walked in, looking upset. "Mr. Windsor, we've got a situation."
Rhea was supposed to be promoted to vice president, but Anne had quit as planning director, and they hadn't found a replacement yet, so Rhea was juggling both roles.
Dorian followed Rhea to the entrance of the Newtown Building, where a crowd had gathered. There was a police line, and security was trying to keep things under control.
"Did you call 911?"
"Yeah, the police and fire department are on their way. Mr. Windsor, look, she's up there now."
Dorian looked up and saw a barefoot woman sitting on the top floor, ready to jump.
"To the rooftop!"
Dorian led Rhea, Beck, and a few security guards up to the rooftop balcony. The woman, with her messy hair, was perched on the edge, ready to jump at any moment.
The Newtown Building had fifty floors. If she jumped, it would be a disaster.
Hearing footsteps, the woman shouted, "Don't come any closer, or I'll jump!"
"Flora, calm down," Rhea said, frowning. Who would've thought it was Flora, who had been fired from the company.
"Calm down? How can I calm down?" Flora's face was full of despair. "Since I got fired, my life's been hell. My landlord kicked me out, I had to stay in a hotel. My mom kept asking for money, so I gave her everything I had. Now I'm broke, sleeping on the streets. The homeless guys violate me while I was asleep. My life is ruined!"
"It's all because of you. How can I calm down?"
Flora blamed the company for all her problems. She was furious, but her expression softened when she saw Dorian.
"Mr. Windsor," she started swaying dangerously. "Mr. Windsor, please help me. That witch Anne fired me out of spite, but I did nothing wrong. Why did she fire me? Mr. Windsor, please cancel my dismissal."
"Let me come back and work for you again, okay?" Flora looked at Dorian with hope, but his cold expression crushed her.
"If you don't agree, I'll jump," Flora said, inching closer to the edge.
Dorian stood there, unfazed, while everyone else was on edge. Rhea pleaded, "Flora, don't do anything rash. Let's talk this out."
"Mr. Windsor," she turned to Dorian, hoping he'd step in. Flora would only listen to him now. If she really jumped, it would be a disaster for the company.
But Dorian stayed cold. "If you want to jump, then jump."
His words shattered Flora and sent chills through everyone else.
"Think about it. Are you sure you want to die like this? There are over fifty floors here. If you jump, your face will be unrecognizable."
Dorian noticed Flora's hand instinctively touch her face, and he knew his challenge had hit home.
"Your body will be in pieces, and when they collect your remains, they won't be able to put you back together."
"Shut up! Aren't you worried that if I jump, it'll ruin your career and reputation?" Flora snapped, trying to threaten him.
Dorian, hands in his pockets, just smiled. "You know who I am. My reputation won't be ruined just by that. If you want to jump, go ahead. It won't affect me at all."
With that, Dorian turned and walked away without a second glance. The others stood there, stunned.
"What are you waiting for? Let's go," Dorian called back.
Reluctantly, they followed him.
Seeing them leave, Flora screamed and shouted, but no one paid her any mind.
"You heartless bastards, you'll get what's coming to you."
Flora bit her lip, ready to jump, but when she looked down, her legs turned to jelly, and she collapsed against the railing.
She cried and wailed, unable to go through with it.
The news of a woman attempting suicide at the Newtown Building quickly hit the TV screens. Anne saw Flora on the news and stopped flipping channels.
"Flora?"
She quickly called Dorian but couldn't get through.
She sent several voice messages to Dorian, but there was no response.
What Anne didn't know was that Dorian was already on a plane to Silverpeak City.
She called Rhea, who was surprised to hear from her.
"Anne, why are you calling me?"
"Rhea, I saw the news about Flora causing trouble at the Newtown Building. Is Dorian... I mean, Mr. Windsor, okay? I can't reach him."
Rhea replied calmly, "He's fine. He's probably on a plane right now."
"Plane?"
"Didn't Mr. Windsor tell you? He's on a business trip to Silverpeak City and will be away for the next week. I thought he would have informed you."
After Anne left the company, Rhea had quietly checked up on her and found out she was living at Windsor Manor.
Thinking Anne and Dorian were happy, Rhea wished them well and stayed out of it.
Anne smiled bitterly. "I see. Thanks, Rhea."
After hanging up, her worry turned into a lingering bitterness.
Dorian had left for another city without even telling her.
Anne suddenly realized the gap between them was growing wider.
