Chapter 113 Isn't This Exciting?
Anne dragged herself out of the room, feeling wiped out. She noticed the living room lights were off, and there was Dorian, chilling quietly on the couch.
"Why don't you turn on the lights?" she asked.
Anne plopped down next to him and reached for the switch, but Dorian gently stopped her.
"Don't. I want to talk to you like this," he said.
Anne gave a little sigh, wondering what kind of quirky habit this was. She decided to leave the lights off and leaned on his shoulder. "I need a favor."
"What's up?" Dorian asked.
"It's about Diana's job," Anne said seriously. "She's blacklisted by Sable in the industry. I was hoping you could help. With your status, if you let her do your makeup for an event, it could save her studio."
Anne had thought about asking George for help, but then realized Dorian, being a big name, could make an even bigger impact. If he hired Diana, the blacklist would likely disappear, and she wouldn't have to bother George.
Asking her boyfriend was way easier than asking someone else.
Anne rarely asked for favors, so Dorian was happy to help.
"Sure, I promise," he said.
In the darkness, Dorian couldn't see Anne's reaction, but he felt her warm kiss on his lips.
"That was quick. How about another one?" Dorian's voice turned low and smooth.
There was something irresistible in his husky tone.
Anne's face flushed. "Diana's inside. What if she wakes up?"
Before she could finish, Dorian captured her lips with his.
Their kiss deepened, and Dorian pressed her down. "Isn't this more exciting?" he murmured.
Anne's mind went blank as the kiss grew hotter and more intense.
She tried to push him away but gave up quickly, knowing how intoxicating his kisses could be.
Dorian's hand slid down her waist, lifting her effortlessly.
Anne's legs wrapped around his waist instinctively.
Her skirt had ridden up, and Dorian's hands explored her curves with fervor. They were lost in their passion.
They kissed for what felt like forever.
Eventually, Anne found herself pinned under Dorian on the couch.
She woke up in the middle of the night, glancing at the floor. Lace underwear, a suit, a torn dress, and shoes were scattered everywhere, evidence of their wild night.
Dorian, mindful of Anne's pregnancy, had been gentle and restrained, yet he still wasn't satisfied.
"How about one more time?" he asked.
"No, I'm exhausted," Anne replied.
Dorian's stamina seemed endless, no surprise for someone in his twenties.
She had almost cried, begging for mercy earlier.
Despite her words, her hand traced Dorian's firm abs.
Dorian grabbed her hand, his voice still filled with desire. "Don't touch me, or I might lose control."
Anne laughed. "Let's sleep. I'm worried about Diana. Let's just sleep here tonight."
She closed her eyes and snuggled into Dorian's arms.
Dorian looked at Anne, who was like a lazy cat in his arms, and felt the urge to get intimate again.
In the end, reason won out over impulse. Dorian knew he had to consider Anne's pregnancy and decided to wait until after she delivered the babies.
They crashed at Diana's place for the night. Early the next morning, Dorian went out to grab breakfast for Anne.
Anne sat on the balcony, taking in the morning view of Shadow City when her phone suddenly rang.
"Hello."
"Cleo's out the operating room. She's fine, but the baby didn't make it," Nolan's voice was flat, emotionless.
Anne closed her eyes, feeling indifferent. "You didn't need to call me about this."
"Cleo's going to blame you for everything. You need to..." Nolan's concerned words trailed off. "Be careful."
"Okay." Anne's calmness was the kindest response she could muster for Nolan.
There was silence on the other end for a long time. Just as Anne was about to hang up, Nolan spoke again.
"I'm planning to break up with Cleo."
"Separate?" Anne frowned slightly.
"We haven't got our marriage license. I was going to do it after the baby was born."
"But now, it seems pointless."
Anne couldn't tell if Nolan loved Cleo or not.
If he didn't love her, he wouldn't have left their eight-year marriage for Cleo.
If he did love her, he wouldn't be so quick to cut ties after she lost the baby.
Maybe Nolan didn't love anyone; maybe he only loved himself.
"You don't need to tell me this. That's it."
Anne hung up, not wanting any more entanglements with Nolan.
Nolan stood outside the hospital room, staring blankly at his phone.
Inside, there were sounds of things breaking and cursing. Nolan walked in to see the mess, with Cleo sitting on the bed, having thrown everything she could.
Raina just sat nearby with her legs crossed, making sarcastic remarks. "What kind of mother are you? You couldn't even protect the baby in your belly!"
Cleo was trembling with anger. "I just lost the baby, and you're already scolding me! Am I just a tool for your family to have children?"
Raina stood up abruptly, pointing at Cleo's nose and shouting, "If you can't have a boy, don't even think about marrying Nolan!"
"Enough!" Nolan shouted, scaring both Raina and Cleo into silence.
Usually good-tempered, his anger was terrifying.
"Mom, please leave. I need to talk to Cleo alone."
Raina snorted and reluctantly left.
With only Nolan and Cleo left in the room, Cleo immediately changed her expression, tears welling up in her eyes as she looked pitifully at Nolan.
"Nolan, the baby, our baby. It's all Anne's fault. She pushed me down the stairs. If it weren't for her, our baby wouldn't be gone! Nolan, you have to stand up for me."
She reached out and tightly grabbed Nolan's arm. Nolan looked down at her hand, feeling disgusted. He shook her off indifferently.
Cleo was stunned. "Nolan, you..."
"Did Anne really push you down the stairs?"
"Of course she did. Would you rather believe her than me? I wouldn't risk our baby's safety to frame her, would I?"
Her words made sense, which was exactly where Cleo's craftiness came into play.
