Chapter 40 I Miss You, Mom
Chapter 40 I Miss You, Mom
After Sloane left her former home, she returned to the estate with red eyes.
Marshall had noticed Sloane was missing and was furiously about to call the nanny to go find her when Sloane came back from outside on her own.
"Where did you run off to? Don't you know the family was worried about you?"
Before Marshall could get angry, Sloane threw herself into his arms with red eyes and started crying.
Seeing her like this, Marshall's anger mostly faded away.
"What's wrong? Did someone bully you?"
Sloane shook her head: "I miss Mom. Can you please ask Mom to come back?"
Marshall was stunned for a moment. Seeing that Sloane finally knew to miss Beatrice, he didn't know whether to feel happy or helpless, and let out a heavy sigh.
"Your mom has her own plans and arrangements. It's not like she'll come back just because I ask her to."
Hearing this, Sloane cried even harder: "Stop lying to me. I know it's because I was thoughtless before and hurt Mom's feelings. I know I was wrong now. Please help me ask Mom to come back."
Seeing Sloane's sincere attitude, as if she truly realized her mistake, Marshall couldn't resist her in the end and compromised: "Alright, I'll try contacting your mom, but it's not enough for just you to know you were wrong."
Marshall never expected that Sloane would realize her mistake before Arthur did.
Thinking of Arthur made Marshall angry all over again.
Fortunately, Sloane knew she was wrong. Why not take this opportunity to call them all back to the estate and rebuild their relationship?
After thinking it through, Marshall first called Beatrice, who answered quickly.
After brief pleasantries, Marshall got straight to the point: "Beatrice, what have you been busy with lately? It's been a while since you came back, hasn't it?"
"I have been pretty busy recently. What's up, Grandpa?"
Marshall glanced at Sloane beside him, who was watching with hopeful eyes, and cleared his throat: "Nothing much, just haven't seen you in a while and I miss you. When can you come back for dinner?"
Beatrice was stunned. Marshall was usually used to being independent, and except for certain holidays, he rarely contacted her and Arthur on his own initiative, let alone suddenly saying he missed her.
If she remembered correctly, Sloane was currently staying at the estate under Arthur's arrangement. Could it be that Sloane wanted to see her?
Whatever the reason, Marshall suddenly calling her back must mean something was up, probably related to Sloane and Arthur.
Right now, Beatrice felt somewhat resistant to going back and facing the Capulet Family matters, but Marshall usually took good care of her, and since he asked directly, she couldn't refuse.
"Grandpa, I still have some things to handle. I'll come back for dinner after I finish tonight."
Seeing Beatrice agree, they breathed a sigh of relief.
After hanging up, Marshall dialed Arthur's number.
Facing Arthur, Marshall couldn't bring himself to say things like "I miss you," and instead commanded coldly: "You haven't been back to the estate in a long time. Come back for dinner tonight!"
Arthur's attitude was even colder: "Grandpa, I have some things going on right now and will probably have to work late tonight. I'll come back another day to keep you company."
Arthur finished speaking in a businesslike manner and hung up directly, which infuriated Marshall.
The butler beside him advised: "Don't be angry. Mr. Arthur Capulet has always been a workaholic and can't spare much time normally. You know that."
Marshall snorted coldly: "That's the only thing about him that's somewhat satisfactory!"
Arthur was indeed a rare business genius in the Capulet Family, and also the most diligent and ambitious of this generation. After the company was handed to him, in less than seven years, it had expanded several times over. It could be said that the current business empire was built by his own hands.
Unfortunately, no matter how capable he was, he was still a blind fool being played by a two-faced person.
"The Capulet Family has a big business. If he takes a couple days off, it won't go bankrupt. But if he drives Beatrice away, he'll never find such a good wife again."
Marshall was determined to get Arthur back tonight. When his gaze fell on Sloane beside him, remembering how she had sneaked away, he suddenly had an idea.
That evening, Beatrice finished her work and returned to the estate before sunset.
Dinner wasn't ready yet, so Marshall called her over to chat.
As Beatrice expected, after chatting for a while, Marshall eventually steered the conversation to her and Arthur's situation.
"Beatrice, you've been away from home for so long recently. Is it because of Arthur?"
Beatrice didn't say anything. Marshall was very sharp - if he was asking like this, he must already know, so there was no need for her to lie.
Marshall sighed: "Arthur certainly hasn't done well enough in some areas, but he has quite a few good points, and he does have you in his heart, he just doesn't realize it himself. I really hope you can give him another chance and stop being upset."
Looking at Marshall in front of her, wholeheartedly trying to persuade her to reconcile with Arthur, Beatrice felt somewhat helpless.
It seemed Marshall didn't know yet that she and Arthur were preparing to divorce.
Marshall was getting old, and this was his only wish. Beatrice didn't want to upset him, so she nodded: "I understand, Grandpa. I'll seriously consider what you've said."
Anyway, no matter what happened between her and Arthur, in her heart, Marshall would always be her grandfather.
At worst, she could discuss with Arthur about coming back together to visit Marshall during holidays - she could accept that.
Just then, Sloane ran over and hugged her: "Mom, I missed you so much."
Beatrice was stunned, looking at Sloane who had become much more well-behaved. She thought to herself that leaving Sloane with Marshall for guidance was indeed useful, and hugged Sloane back with relief: "I missed you too. I've just been too busy lately. When I have time, I'll spend more time with you, okay?"
Marshall watched this harmonious scene before him, but the smile on his lips gradually faded.
He could tell that Beatrice's mind was entirely on Sloane, and her earlier agreement to give Arthur another chance was just to humor him for his sake.
However, fortunately, to help Arthur and Beatrice's relationship get back on track, he had left himself a backup plan tonight.
They had been married for so many years, and in the blink of an eye, Sloane was already this big. It was time to have another child to strengthen their marital bond.
Now he just had to wait for Arthur to come back and receive the big gift he had carefully prepared for him!
Marshall was thinking about this when Arthur rushed back from outside: "Grandpa, has Sloane been found?"
The moment he saw Beatrice and Sloane in the living room, Arthur's expression changed: "Grandpa, didn't you call me saying Sloane was missing?"
Before Marshall could speak, Jennifer came in from outside in her small heels: "How is it, Arthur? Has Sloane been found?"
