Chapter 10: Tch! Do You Really Expect Us To Believe The President Is So Young and A Woman?
Amber paused, her nose scrunching in surprise before she quietly followed after them.
She was still outside, so she was quite curious to see who was inside pretending to be her.
“Greta, you have such observing eyes. I was here for two hours, and not once did I think the President would’ve arrived!”
The flattering words of a man reached her ears as she stepped into the building’s lounge.
While the others hurried forward, she stopped and glanced toward the direction of the voice, her eyes instantly zeroing in on a brunette who sat between Greta and a young man she didn’t recognize.
The brunette was dressed exquisitely from the neatly curled up bangs on her hair to her freshly manicured toenails.
This one glance was all she needed to know the only reason Greta believed this woman was the president of AH Pictures was because she was the most dressed-up person in the room.
“Greta, is that the president? Where’s the MD?” the man who had nearly run her over whispered as he walked over to Greta.
But Greta only laughed and tugged him into the seat beside her.
He obeyed, shyly waving at the ‘president’ before lowering his eyes respectfully.
“You don’t have to speak in such a low voice because the president doesn’t bite. In fact, she’s really nice.”
Following this, the woman raised her head and smiled at him sweetly.
“You must be Miss Foster’s friend. I’ve only known her for a few minutes, but I can already tell she has good foresight. As her friend, you can’t be that bad. So feel free to ask me whatever questions you have.”
Immediately, the others who had been afraid to approach exhaled in relief and rushed forward in delight.
“The President’s manners are just as pretty as she is.”
“No wonder she became the president of AH Pictures despite being so young.”
Chuckling softly, the woman lifted her gaze and looked around the lounge in genuine surprise.
“I’ve never been here before, so I know without a doubt I would’ve gotten lost if Miss Greta hadn’t found me when she did.”
Greta was a Z-list actress and was only remotely considered to be famous because her brother owned a film house.
So having the company’s president praise her in front of her friends was a real confidence booster and she couldn’t help grinning from ear-to-ear.
“You’re a hard woman to miss, ma’am.”
Seeing this, the other artists, who were Z-listers as well, went green with envy but still force a smile as they asked, “But what about the Managing Director? Didn’t you say he was with her?”
No one noticed, but the woman instantly broke out in a cold sweat before hurriedly shaking her head at them dismissively.
“He would’ve been, but I tried contacting him when I got here and my calls went unanswered.”
Then she paused and turned to the man sitting quietly beside her, smiling faintly, “But then his assistant here told me he was suddenly pulled into a meeting a moment ago.”
“The meeting’s important, so I will wait. For now, why don’t you show me to his office? I’d like to wait there.”
Amber, who had been listening to the conversation with a straight face, was finally convinced of the woman’s identity after hearing this request.
While it was entirely coincidental she hadn’t told the MD she was coming, she would never lose her way around the building given she had a map he had sent her one year ago which was way before she even knew this company existed.
“Of course, ma’am. We’ll take you to…” the same man who had almost knocked her over began, but his words trailed off when his eyes casually darted to the side where Amber stood.
Pausing, his brows slowly furrowed into a frown as he glanced back at her. He looked her over for a moment before assuming she was a janitor.
“What are you doing here? Weren’t you told to wait until the lounge was empty before cleaning?”
Hearing him, everyone naturally glanced toward the direction of the person being scolded.
None of them remembered who she was despite seeing her outside, but Greta’s breath caught in her throat.
As she coughed silently, another person turned to the MD’s assistant.
“Call security. We can’t have the president thinking this is how the cleaning staff behave when she isn’t around.”
Without thinking twice, he quickly took out his phone to make the call.
“Is she a new janitor? I’ve never seen any of ours dress so pathetic.”
“Now that you mention it, we even give some of them our worn-out clothes. There’s no way this lady could’ve been working here long.”
“It’s disgusting. Why hire new ones without informing us? A quick background check would save us the trouble of running into such a bum on a good day like this.”
The artists complained bitterly, their eyes not leaving Amber.
Behind them, Greta clenched her jaw and sat up quietly.
It was unlike her not to join in, but thinking of Aaron, she bit her tongue and refrained from saying anything.
Her brother was trying so hard to erase all traces of them being together. If she joined in mocking Amber, Amber could bring up being married to him. But if she stayed silent and Amber still did, it would be easier to deny.
Furthermore, she was already this close to getting the President’s contact information. she couldn’t risk messing it up now.
Amber, on the other hand, was slightly surprised Greta didn’t join in.
She was yet to learn of Aaron of scrubbing out the fact they had been married for three years, so she didn’t think too much of it.
Instead, she focused on the group in front of her.
It was no secret to her that these were the true behaviors of artists behind the cameras where they often smiled and laughed with fans. That was why she didn’t like most of them.
So she wasn’t offended hearing them call her names, though she did make a mental note to speak to the MD later about these uncultured people he had signed to the company.
“Enough!”
The artists were still jeering at her when the ‘President’ suddenly hissed, her sharp gaze pinning them in place and rendering them speechless.
“She’s still a worker who does her best to earn an honest living. If she came to clean, let her clean.”
Fearing they had offended her, they shuddered and nodded vigorously.
“O-of course. We just find it disrespectful she couldn’t wait until we all left.”
“Yes, you’re the company’s president, so you might not know how the janitors love to gossip.”
“I’m certain news of your arrival will be all over the net once she runs off to blab to her colleagues.”
The woman merely waved them aside and leaned back without another word because in truth, she couldn’t be more bothered about the gossip.
Yes, she had come here hoping to scam some people out of their jewelry, but it wasn’t her fault someone mistook her for the president based solely on what she wore.
She was smart enough to know it was too risky a role to impersonate, so she was going to tell them she wasn’t who they thought she was until the man she learned was the MD’s assistant, mentioned he couldn’t reach the MD because of an emergency meeting that would last at least an hour.
So she decided to play along, pretending not to notice them practically worshipping the ground she walked on.
Once she got her hands on something valuable from the MD’s office, the first thing she’d do was get herself a new identity.
He was the MD after all and wouldn’t have something cheap in his office.
Thinking of what she would find, she grew impatient and sat up again. “I’m getting tired of waiting for the MD here. Take me to his office.”
Since the air was tense after she reprimanded the artists, they were eager to oblige. But Amber, who planned to see just how far this woman intended to carry on this tomfoolery, couldn’t let that happen.
Exhaling inwardly, she scratched the space between her brows in annoyance and sneered,
“I may only be a janitor, but you really expect us to believe the president of AH Pictures is as young as yourself and a woman? Tch. Do you really think we're that dumb?!”
