Chapter 303 Her Feelings or Happiness Weren't His Concern
The Dawnstar area was mostly filled with rich folks, and the place was always buzzing with activity.
Inside the villa, Sarah was on a hunger strike. She hadn't touched a bite all day, holed up in her bedroom sketching, not even flinching when Jacob bawled his eyes out next to her.
The master bedroom door creaked open.
Oliver walked in with a tray. He was rocking a white shirt and light gray pants, looking sharp and full of energy, and the cut on his forehead was pretty much healed.
He stood there quietly, watching her. He'd already figured out she was faking the whole mental illness thing. She was fine; she just didn't want to talk to him or be near him, so she was playing crazy.
Oliver didn't call her out on it. Maybe if he kept his mouth shut, he could still win her over like before.
In the dim light, Oliver moved to Sarah's side, set the tray on the table next to her, and knelt down, his voice soft, "Olivia said Jacob was crying just now, and you didn't care. Sarah, Jacob is our son, remember?"
Sarah didn't say a word, but her paintbrush shook a bit. Jacob was the baby she had carried for ten months; of course, she loved him. But if she gave in, she'd be stuck with Oliver forever, living like some sad pet. She didn't want that!
Sarah's face was ice-cold. She ignored him, didn't speak, and refused to touch the food he brought.
Oliver had always had a short fuse, and five years in prison had only made it worse. He shoved her drawing aside, grabbed her chin roughly, and said coldly, "Eat!"
Suddenly, Sarah had enough of the act. Her eyes narrowed, glaring at him fiercely, and then she slapped his hand away, yelling like a madwoman, "Enough! Oliver, we're already divorced. When will you let me go?"
Oliver stared at her, his eyes a bit red. Finally, she dropped the act and showed him her true self.
Oliver sneered, "It's been tough pretending for over a year, hasn't it?"
Sarah took a couple of steps back, lowered her gaze, and laughed bitterly, "Yes! Every moment with you has been torture, like living through years! Oliver, you're so disgusting I can't stand it! I can hardly imagine how many women like Ellie have slept with you. Just thinking about it makes me sick!"
"Sick?" Oliver laughed too, but he didn't realize his eyes were red.
He looked at Sarah standing there. He remembered how innocent she used to be, but now she was acting all crazy, throwing hurtful words at him.
She had grown up! She wasn't that pure and kind girl anymore. He suddenly realized she'd be turning 25 after the New Year, a full-grown woman.
Oliver stared at her for a bit, and then, through gritted teeth, he spat out, "What about Jacob? You don't want him either? Planning to never see him again?"
Sarah's voice shook, "Are you threatening me?"
Oliver didn't deny it. He said, word by word, "Yes, I am."
He was waiting for her decision.
Sarah leaned against the couch, staring at him in a daze. He had pushed her to the edge. This man she had once been so crazy about, after shedding all his masks, left her no room to maneuver.
Jacob was her child, but if she didn't listen to him, he wouldn't even let her see him. He was truly ruthless.
Sarah's throat churned with a metallic taste, and her heart was filled with immense sorrow.
She had no idea where her courage came from, but she faced him and fought back, "Fine! Starve me to death, and then starve Jacob to death too. After all, I'm just a tool for you to get back at Dylan. In your heart, Jacob will always carry Miller blood. Starve us both to death, and maybe then you'll be satisfied!"
At this moment, she seemed crazy and even more heartbroken.
She clung to the couch, her slender body trembling uncontrollably.
Because Sarah knew what kind of man she was up against. Oliver wasn't her husband; he was just a man far superior to her in wealth and strength. In his hands, she had no leverage, only her life.
Oliver stared at her; the Sarah in front of him was so unfamiliar. She seemed to have transformed from an innocent girl into a woman ready to fight him to the death.
Suddenly, he sneered. Fight him to the death? With what?
Oliver didn't believe Sarah could endure it, nor did he believe she would really give up Jacob. Her current madness was just a bluff.
Oliver raised his hand, leisurely straightening his shirt collar. His dignified demeanor contrasted sharply with her tension.
When he went downstairs, he took his time. He didn't want Sarah to find out, but now she knew. This was who he really was!
Oliver never intended to love Sarah. She was just someone he kept around to make himself happy. Her feelings or happiness weren't his concern.
