Chapter39
But he was too busy back then, making calls with people all night long. He was afraid of waking her up, so he could only walk around the neighborhood or go to the balcony.
She found him every time but didn’t say anything, just walked with him quietly like that.
Now it seemed like she didn’t like being in his arms anymore, she even felt it was kind of uncomfortable.
Garrett tried to turn her around a few times, but she just shrank back and hugged herself.
He angrily turned on the bedside lamp, “Are you pretending to be asleep?”
But she did fall asleep, her cheeks had a flush from the fever, her long lashes drooped, and she looked really well-be- haved.
He froze all over, his heart instantly softened, quietly turned off the light, hugged her waist from behind, and just fell asleep like that.
When Adrienne woke up, she just felt a little uncomfortable down there.
She moved a bit and felt the coolness of some ointment.
She turned to the side and only then realized there was someone next to her.
She suddenly woke up and realized this wasn’t a dream, Garrett was really in the bed.
For three years, she woke up from her dreams countless times, still half asleep, reaching out to her side, but the bed was always empty.
At first she broke down, then she slowly learned to heal herself.
Now she was already used to sleeping alone.
She took out her phone and checked it. It was 5:30 in the morning. She got out of bed and started getting dressed.
Garrett saw him get up so early, pulled him back, and said, “Sleep a bit more.”
His tone was so familiar, like all their fights over the past three years never happened, like the distance between them because of Bethany never existed.
She pulled his hand away and took out her own clothes to change into.
Garrett woke up, got out of bed and saw her in the bathroom washing up, wiping the corner of her mouth with a cleansing towel after rinsing her mouth.
She didn’t look at him and was about to leave with her phone.

Garrett put his hand in front of her, “Adrienne, can we talk?”
Adrienne looked at him, her expression calm, “There’s nothing to talk about except divorce. When you’re ready to sign the papers, we can talk.”
Garrett’s face changed for a second, then he sneered, “Did you know you once swore you’d be Mrs. Melendez for life.”
She pressed her lips together. Back then, she really did swear, saying she’d hold onto this position even if she died.
I didn’t expect that in just three years, all my drive was completely gone.
Depression was already cured, so what else couldn’t be cured?
Loving Garrett was like having a long illness, and I got over it pretty soon.
She was about to leave as she walked past him.
Garrett pulled her back again and pinned her against the door, lifted her up so her legs had to wrap around his waist.
“Let go of me!”
What she said the most back then was this sentence.
Garrett’s lips went to kiss her.
Adrienne was upset and bit hard on his lips.
Even though there was a bloody taste in his mouth, he still didn’t let go of the person.
She turned her head away in disgust, “You didn’t brush your teeth.”
Garrett froze, then buried his head in her neck, “Back when we used to do it before dawn without brushing our teeth, why didn’t you mind?”
Adrienne froze, her eyes got a little teary. She thought he had forgotten all about that.
At time, he always stayed out late for social events. When he got back, he took a shower and lay down holding
y time, he woke her up by doing it, and they kissed sweetly together.
, I loved you back then, but I don’t love you now.”
rrett’s body slowly went stiff, and he let go of her.
