Chapter 249: They Don't Believe It Either
The King family was totally baffled when they heard the news. What kind of good news could the Lord of the Arctic possibly have for them?
Seeing everyone’s confused faces, Frank went on, "The Lord of the Arctic found a little beggar in another city who looks just like the second young general of the Anderson Family. He called out 'Benjamin,' and guess what? The kid actually responded..."
Gregory found it all pretty ridiculous and cut Frank off, "Frank, the Duke saw someone who looks like Benjamin and reported it to the King. What’s he trying to prove? Someone who looks like Benjamin but isn’t Benjamin—what’s the point of telling the King that?"
Gregory felt not just absurdity but also a bit of anger.
He thought, 'Mandy and Benjamin are a sore spot for the King family, especially for Flora, who can’t stand hearing about them. Reporting a look-alike as good news? What kind of good news is that? It’s just making everyone rush back for some absurd story.'
Gregory couldn’t help but feel some anger towards the Lord of the Arctic.
Frank raised his hand to calm him down. "Gregory, chill out. If it was just a resemblance, the Lord of the Arctic wouldn’t have chased him to Meadowland. Ava also went to there a few days ago and has now confirmed that the little beggar is indeed the second young general’s son, Benjamin. They should be arriving in Capital City in a few days."
Everyone was left in shock.
Gregory’s eyes darkened, and he kept denying it, "No way. Benjamin is dead. I held him and stitched his body together. Frank, we can’t believe this. Ava might not even be reliable. She saw someone who looks similar and claimed it was Benjamin. I know she longs for news that Benjamin or other Anderson Family members are alive, but it’s just not possible."
Dora had already started crying. She thought, 'My daughter and grandson are dead. How could such an absurd thing happen two years later? Is Ava crazy?'
Seeing this, Frank said, "The King sent me to report this. Believe it or not, you'll find out when the Duke and Ava return to the capital."
With that, he left.
The King family members looked at each other, all feeling it was very absurd.
Dora cried for a while and choked out, "Don’t tell the old lady; she can’t handle it."
Piper said, "Luckily, we haven’t told her yet. The doctor has already given her heart medicine."
Everyone was filled with doubt and worry.
Donald sighed deeply, sitting in a chair and staring blankly at the yard outside. He thought of his understanding daughter and his lively, intelligent grandson, and his heart ached.
Who wouldn’t hope it was true? But how could it be true?
Donald had seen the bodies of his daughter and grandson with his own eyes. His grandson had died tragically. Though his face was hard to recognize, he wore a gold bracelet with bells on his wrist, engraved with "Long Life and Prosperity," which Flora had specially made for his fourth birthday.
So there could be no mistake.
Frank’s visit left everyone in a state of despair, as if the event of that day were being forced upon them again, making their hearts ache, yet they didn’t know how to dispel this gloom.
Gregory thought for a moment and sent a servant to the Duke of the Realm’s Mansion to ask if Ava had gone out.
The servant returned and reported that Ava had indeed gone out, and she had gone alone.
"It seems she was in a hurry," Piper said to Gregory.
"She..." Gregory wanted to say a few words of complaint about Ava, but remembering their last meeting, he knew she had never let go for even a moment. Feeling heartbroken, he sighed and said, "She isn’t a reckless person. She probably thought it was impossible too, but she couldn’t rest without seeing for herself."
Piper nodded. "Yeah, whether it’s true or not, she has to see for herself. How can she be at ease without seeing?"
Everyone said this, but in their hearts, they also thought, if only it were true.
