Chapter 248: It's Good News

Gideon took on this gig for his wife, feeling all sorts of mixed-up emotions.

Back in the day, Ethan and Sophia were the town's hot topic, getting props from everyone, with the court folks having high hopes for them.

Even the regular folks were singing about their love story, feeling both sorry for and impressed by Sophia, who chose to be a side chick despite being a badass female general.

Ethan got his share of praise too, for not ditching his main wife at home even though he was head over heels for Sophia.

The win at Verdant Sky Pass got everyone hyped, leading to a wild celebration.

But after the party, when folks started thinking it over, they realized those pretty stories had some nasty secrets underneath.

Everyone eventually realized that Ethan's main wife, Ava, was actually more outstanding than Sophia. They then remembered all the big stuff the Anderson Family did for the Valoria Kingdom and the heroes they lost.

But Ava never got a fair shake in public opinion; she was always getting trashed.

Like, those old accusations of her being unfilial made everyone forget her badassery at the Southern Border, and they kept talking smack until the astrologer set things straight.

Ava could've stayed in the army, but now she had a token gig as the deputy commander of the Black Armor Army, not really doing much. It was clear the King didn't want her in a real position.

Gideon knew Zachary had a lot on his mind, but one of those things was genuinely wanting to help the Anderson Family, and that was enough.

The Anderson Family originally just had Ava, but now they found Benjamin, and the family title had an heir. Still, the family was small, and the King didn't want them taking more risks.

With that in mind, everything else could be ignored, like it didn't even exist.

When Frank rolled up to the King Mansion, Gregory wasn't back yet. Frank didn't spill the beans right away, saying they'd wait for Gregory.

This freaked out the King family, but Frank grinned and said, "Chill out. It's good news. But we gotta wait for Gregory. By the way, there's a doc in the house, right?"

Gregory's wife, Piper, said, "Yeah, we got a doc 'cause the old lady's been sick and can't do without one."

Frank told Piper, "In that case, have the old lady pop a calming pill first."

Frank's words really spooked Piper. With the men of the house still on duty and not home, the women were kinda lost.

Dora, the mom of the Anderson Family's second sister-in-law, had been in bad shape since her daughter and son-in-law died and couldn't handle shocks. Frank's words made her heart race, and she felt she needed meds too.

Piper first had someone fetch the doc and then sent someone to call the men back. Frank was tight with the King and wouldn't show up for nothing.

Since it was good news but needed a doc, Piper was both worried and curious.

Frank didn't spill anything at first, worried that Flora, with her bad health, couldn't handle the excitement, which might mess with her heart. Better to have the men around.

He thought about going to the Central Guards but changed his mind. It wasn't the right place to talk about this, especially since Benjamin wasn't back in Capital City yet.

Whether the King family would spill the news was up to them.

About an hour later, the King family men rushed back, with Gregory being the last to show up.

The head of the King family, Gregory's dad, usually a calm dude, was anxious. "Frank, could you please tell us what the king's orders are?"

Seeing most of the King family men back, Frank said, "Here's the deal: the King got a letter from the Lord of the Arctic in Meadowland. It's good news, so the King sent me to give you all the heads-up."
