Chapter 74

Nico's POV

My cat and I were restless because our mate had yet to wake up for a whole week. I spoke with Meemaw on the phone and had her speak with the so called doctor that was looking after Kai. Meemaw told me that the doc was doing the right things and that she would send a care package to help her body heal more. The doc approved of this and it should be showing up today. Laying on the bed next to her helped especially in my animal for as jaguar felt closer to her, less distant.

I started to feel her breathing change as turning my head to see her face start to move. Will checked her over waiting to see her open her eyes. Then just like a huge weight had been lifted she looked to Will then to me a smile on her face as she reached for my hand holding it. “Why so sad? I was only asleep,” she said as if it was normal to faint. “No babe, you have been out for a whole week,” Will said kissing her forehead then sitting back in his chair sighing in relief. “What?!” she shrieked.

I laughed glad that she was awake and not struggling to live. Meemaw will be happy to hear that she's awake. “You had us all worried there for a bit. Your energy levels were dangerously low as well as your blood sugar. Are you eating like you should be? Do I need to watch you eat from now on?” I asked skeptical of her actions. “Watch all you want I am eating as I should. You've been with me the last few weeks how wouldn't you know if I wasn't eating? Don't worry so much I'll adjust knowing my powers take a greater toll on me,” she said as I fluffed her pillows and helped her sit up better. “We'll see.” was all I could say.

Something was going on and the doctor and Meemaw hadn't said anything yet, but it was coming I could feel it. I feared that something had happened with the witches that couldn't be fixed, but it was anyone's guess what was happening to her. Servants brought in a breakfast cart serving Kai first before Will and myself. It was interesting to see how they treated me verses their King and Queen. They didn't know what to make of me, but things hadn't been established yet so I felt like a guest to say the least.

Just as they left the doctor walks in seeing Kai wake and eating breakfast she says, “Well it took you long enough to wake up, my dear. You had us all worried. Don't do that again. Also when's the last time you had a lazy day? Would it really be so bad if you forget this work and just be yourself for a day? Anyways lets see how everything's working.” She went about examining Kai checking her blood pressure, pulse, temperature, asking how her pain level was and her appetite. She stepped back writing in her note book then looks at Will and I wait for our attention, “So you have wondered all week what;s been going on with her to cause this kind of collapse. After monitoring her, making sure she received enough rest I can safely say that she is 3 weeks and 3 days into her pregnancy. Congratulations your about to be fathers,” She said as she packed up her bag handing Kai a bottle of vitamins reminding her to take them regularly then leaving.

Both of us were in shock as Kai continued to eat her breakfast enjoying it far to much. My mind came to when she reached for my hand squeezing it a bit to get my attention. “You okay? Are you upset? Are you worried about if ones yours?” she asked taking a bit of her waffles. “Yes and no. I mean I had a feeling one would be mine, but I didn't think I'd be a father this soon,” I said still taking in the information.

“Yeah me either. I figured we'd all have a couple years, but its definitely been a rough ride. I'm surprised she didn't show signs sooner,” Will said as he tried to think of any times where she might have shown signs. “Don't beat yourself up, man. She hides more then she lets on. At least we know and can make sure she takes care of herself. Isn't that right, babe?” I asked her as she drank her milk. Setting the glass down she looked at me saying, “If i'd have known sooner I would have been better about myself. Ask Will I don't normal try to endanger myself with reckless behavior. I'm the fly-under-the-radar type of person. And being a queen I try to sty level and know my limits, and while I haven't been here to be queen long my people know how I am. Speaking of which, Anya will be one of my main advisors from today on. I find I like her perspective and need more female outlooks as the men in this room seem to think to little of our views.”

Will held up his hands acting as if it was all me saying these things when we both talked about it through out the last week she was asleep. Sighing I look at her saying, “I don't think less or worse of you. I just think you don't always take your physical state in to consideration as often as you should. If you felt tired or weak you should have said so. That's all I was saying.” I didn't want her to think I was trying to control her, but when I see how close to death or even a coma she came I was worried out of my mind that she'd never wake up.

She must have seen that because she shook her head saying, “I'm sorry. I'm not a good patient. I shouldn't be taking my displeasure of being stuck in bead out on you.” Look at me with love she holds my hand saying, “I will take better care of myself, and Will don't look so smug. I head you every once in a while and know how you really feel about this,” she tweeked Will a bit smug herself seeing the deer in the headlights look on his face. I laughed feeling relieved that she would live and now I had more reason to keep her safe.

Former Luna Queen Celeste POV

Standing outside the room hearing the conversation happening beyond the door I turn to leave seeking out my mate to tell him the news. While most of the time I adored Kai there were times I wish it was Lysa I was speaking about, not her. Now that she is the Luna Queen I've been trying to pass on the duties that she will have to take over. I've had to fill in for her while she was either kidnapped or on her way back here. Now with this pregnancy she now has I'm not sure if I'll ever get out from under this position.

Walking into my mates office he hung up the phone a bit irritated himself. “Whats wrong? That didn't sound promising,” I said hoping I was wrong. “That was the Vampire king about his son again. He's lucky I haven't set him in the sun without his “makeup” on. He just expects me to hand him back to him after he attacked our daughter. Who does he think he is?” Jakob said sitting back in his chair exhausted. Walking around slowly massaging his shoulder releasing some of the tension he hold in them. He sighs with relief as his shoulders slump down, “Don't let him get to you. You know he hasn't got the balls to oppose you,” I whispered in his ear.

“Yeah especially because I have him tired up ready to transport at a moments notice. We may need him for this next part,” he said staring into the fire a dark look on his face.
