Chapter 58
*****Axel's POV*****
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are proceeding with the Alpha battle today! I have been made aware of only one suitor who wishes to battle with Dillon for the title... if anyone else wishes to participate then please step forward now! I must warn you all that it is a fight til the death!" I boom to the quivering pack, who were all now silently seated around the large field.
"Axel do I really have to sit on your knee for this?" Dani whispers uncomfortably, earning a low warning growl in response as she attempts to shuffle in my lap.
"Don't move!" I grit back, earning an eye roll from her in return.
It was common to feel overly protective for a while after completing the mating bond, and now that she had successfully marked my neck - I didn't want her out of my sight despite how embarrassing it was for her.
"Bring forward Dillon!" I command, hearing some whispers and gasps from the crowd as we watch Nolan and Grey drag him out from behind the nearby tree line.
I would say he looked terrible but I believe he looked just as bad when we first arrived - minus the swollen eye and bruises.
He eyed me momentarily with his face full of rage as I just smiled at him.
"Looking good for the occasion Dillon!" I comment with a rich laugh, mocking him as the rest of the pack - his pack - also snigger, showing their full support to me.
A true pack would back their Alpha til death but not this pack. He meant nothing to this pack. He was nothing more than a burden to them.
"Now bring forth our very keen volunteer - Saul Walker!" I now roar out, laced with a smile as I study Dillons reaction.
His features dropped, as he squirmed under Nolan and Greys grip as they effortlessly held him in place.
Everyone began to clap, as Saul stepped forward - looking eager and ready to rip him apart.
I guess one could say that it wasn't a fair fight... but one could also argue that that bastard was a criminal who had no right being Alpha to this pack in the first place!
"Dillon do you accept your opponent and are you willing to fight to keep your title?" I ask, sarcasm lacing my tone as I raise an eyebrow at the sweating man.
Not that he even had a choice in the matter…
"I am within my own rights to be the Alpha! You can't just turn up and have someone half my age challenge me! I am not fit!" Dillon roars his argument, suddenly thrashing around in the grip of my men.
"If you are not fit then you should have never been the Alpha to this pack! Alphas are naturally strong! You are the definition of a weak man!" I argue, embarrassing him further as he bares his teeth to me in rage.
"A true Alpha will win this battle." I shrug next, waving a hand in order for them to set up for the fight.
Saul takes his place behind his given line, as Nolan and Grey forcefully stand Dillon behind his. I was curious to how he would act when the whistle blows... would he be so stupid as to make a run for it knowing he was surrounded by guards? Or would he at least fight back?
I couldn't care really. I wanted to see his limbs tore apart.
"You may not want to watch this doll..." I remind Dani, knowing that she hadn't seen anything like what was about to happen here today.
"I think you're right..." She studies the situation before agreeing, as she tucks her face into my neck and breathes - helping to relax me in the process.
I needed this decided, I needed Saul to show this pack that they had a chance again... even after I leave they need to trust that their given Alpha is strong enough to protect them!
"Ready!" The match organiser roars, as I perk up slightly in my seat, glancing at Saul who looked more than prepared to kill.
Anticipation was high, especially for the pack members as some didn't know where to look or how to act.
"Til death!" The organiser finally roars, as Nolan and Grey release Dillon who immediately shifts into his brown wolf.
He was angry and now looked willing to fight, however his wolf size was simply embarrassing.
How anyone would leave him as the Alpha was beyond me. Which only confirmed that he was indeed just a puppet for those controlling things above him.
I watch Saul, who too decides to shift - revealing a large grey creature - earning gasps and cheers from the audience whose confidence had instantly grown just from the look of his impeccable wolf.
Saul stays low, growling as he slowly approaches the target. Unlike Dillon, who thrashed around growling and snarling like a mad man.
Saul was close, as we all awaited the first move, before Dillon shocked us all by getting cocky and launching towards Saul at full speed.
Saul kept his eyes on the target, allowing Dillon to charge at him before effortlessly rolling himself underneath Dillon the moment he launched through the air to attack.
I release a deep felt laugh, understanding that Saul not only wanted to kill him, but wanted to embarrass the pathetic man beforehand.
Dillon was infuriated, as he attempted to charge him again, diving and missing as Saul quickly darted his wolf out of the way for the second time.
Dillon soon decided to try a new method, charging at him without the dive, but Saul seen it coming and instead reversed the attack by this time launching onto Dillons back - ripping a chunk from his shoulder in the process.
Dillon rolls, howling and snarling in pain as I feel Dani gasp and cling to my shirt tighter - not liking the noise too well.
"Was that Saul?" Dani whispers as I laugh and kiss her head gently.
"No he's doing great doll." I encourage her as she breathes steadily, refusing to look.
Saul soon gets bored of the act, deciding to attack Dillon fully as he squares his wolf up and sprints forward.
Dillon attempts to dodge him but instead only lands directly in his reach as Saul pins him to the grass and finishes him in front of the crowd, ripping his head from his body with only three heavy tugs.
Everyone cheers, clapping at the victory, as Saul prances his wolf around In front of them - holding Dillons head in his mouth for affect.
Dani shuffles to look, as I instantly hold her head back down.
"Did Saul win?" She questions innocently.
"He did... but you don't want to look just yet doll." I state firmly, as she nods and allows me to carry her with me as I stand.
"Gemstone pack! Please bow your heads in respect to your new and rightful Alpha leader - Alpha Saul Walker!" I bellow, as Saul drops the head and shifts instantly back to his human form - offering me a bright smile and a nod.
The surrounding pack bow their heads in respect, before moving towards him cheering.
That was the first step in the right direction... giving the pack hope… and now we must find my brother.
